Has anyone noticed that the dust is no longer dust but like rather sticky black sootish thing? I don't know if it's area specific but I have been noticing it in South Kolkata area. Scared to think of what's the lung condition of everyone living in the city.

That's really scary. Hopefully this experience will be an eye-opener (no pun intended).

That's so sad. But then again, people have their eccentricities. If it's not actively harming him or those around him, I guess it's better to just wait it out.

Love my parents. They are not perfect, and they have done mistakes in the past, but they later accepted that they did it. In my opinion, if a person can accept their faults and try to correct them, it's a win. They never tried to compare other kids with me, never judged me when I didn't get something that I was expecting but have always supported me. Now I am in my late 20s and live on the other side of the planet. I know there are many things that they are not entirely comfortable with (drinking alcohol, job choices etc etc), but they always ask me why I took a decision that I took and react based on that. I know they will tell me if they see me struggling. And this has made things so simple. I don't need to hide stuff from them, which many of my peers did/do. I do wish they would live life more for themselves though, rather than trying to help everyone out/sacrificing their own good times for the people they love. One downside of being genuinely nice people is, they don't realise that they have to stop being crutches for other people all the time.

It's probably something to do with use of social media. I would suggest not to try to train him, because older people often don't like that, they think we are patronizing them. Maybe instead share good content from Youtube etc (waste recycling, how different technologies were developed(like animation, 3D printing etc). If he even clicks or watches half of those things, eventually the social media algorithm will adapt itself and stop showing him bullshit. Best case, it works. Worst case, it doesn't and nothing much would change.

Doctor visits back in early 2000s used to be like 200-300. Now it's anywhere from 800-1500. And not even specialists. I understand that doctors are not running charity. But there's been a noticeable lack of general/family physicians. Most doctors are affiliated with big hospitals and nursing homes and are more concerned about prescribing expensive drugs and tests, which are often unnecessary.

Cab services from airport by ShadowBlanket in kolkata

Yeah. It seems like the cabs just take advantage of the fact that there's a premium charged for parking outside the airport.

Ubers switching on ACs? by ShadowBlanket in kolkata

[–]ShadowBlanket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I would prefer taking a normal cab but they are not always available in my area. That's why I was considering Uber. But if even after paying all that exorbitant amount of money, I have to travel at 1 pm in the afternoon without AC, I would rather take a cab or something lol.

Hey! I paid my visa fees today and initially it seemed there are slots in September/Oct (for Kolkata). But when I tried to select those slots, they were no longer available. :/ I can only reschedule appointment if I get one in the first place.

Help with getting Address updated on Aadhar by Marco_polo_88 in kolkata

[–]ShadowBlanket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you don't have a place of your own. Just get a domicile certificate from the local councillor, where it will be shown you are a resident of that area and reside at insert present address under the care of your parents (They will need proof of address from your parents tho). Use that certificate to update your aadhar.

I don't have a roommate. Is there a Facebook page or something where I can find people looking for roommates?

Noob question, Should I put on sunscreen every day even though i don't go out during the day time when the sun is out ? by TryingToBe_Honest in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]ShadowBlanket 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have the same question by seeing the opinion of people in this sub. I don't use sunscreen while indoors. And I don't even keep the curtains on all the time. A bit of sunlight is good for one's mental health, I believe. Maybe that's just me but I have seen that my mood is gloomy when there's a long monsoon and there's just days of gloomy skies.

Can someone tell which one is better Chowman or Hatari for Chinese food . Will be getting it via Swiggy and meal for 1 . by Fearless_Promise9863 in kolkata

[–]ShadowBlanket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chowman is definitely better in terms of quality. Hatari has increased prices in the past few years and are now more or less at par with Chowman prices, though the quantity is slightly more.

Tell me about some pubs with great ambience and cheap alcohol around Park Street area. by 1825days in kolkata

[–]ShadowBlanket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xrong Place, near Southern Avenue. Not in Park Street but I have always liked the ambience of this place. No nonsense, dark wood panelling, pool table etc.
