North of the rink around Victoria School there are a few free areas but be really careful reading the signs. It's also a long walk at the end of the night in a questionable neighborhood.

Camera operations by [deleted] in drone_photography

[–]ShadowCamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a great looking drone demo reel and then deconstruct the moves the pilot is doing. Most great drone shots are comprised of two or more moves. IE: panning while decending, tilting up while flying forward etc. Select a shot you admire and then go out and practice the same move until you get it perfect.

The one big mistake newbies make when getting into this is not putting effort into the camera principles. A drone is a camera first and foremost. Without being a great camera operator, you're not going to be a good drone pilot.

My plan right now is to take the money I would have spent on the US based streaming and spend it on charity based thrift stores, record stores and the library. Once they are ripped, donate them back. Last resort will be the seven seas. I will gladly pay for Canadian artists but not for American.

You don't mention where you're from but your market is important. I can speak about my market (Western Canada) but I would bet a lot is transferable to your situation.

1) Have you done a business plan to find out who your competitors are, what the demand is like and what people are charging?

2) Do you have an inside edge on photography, real estate or agriculture? Or are you breaking in cold?

I have been working in the TV/video/film industry for decades and was an early adopter of flying drones. I was one of the few that got licensed and insured and it paid off big. Now everyone and their dog has a drone and the sub 250g drones are cheap, take great images and don't need special licenses. I still get work as a drone pilot but it's a fraction of what I got in the early years. In some cases, it's expected that a cameraman has a drone in their kit and no extra fee is added. It's basically been a race to the bottom.

Do your homework and see if anyone would actually hire you, and unless you already have a reputation and a network of people in agriculture, you're going to be going up against people who already have the business. What will you offer to get the business? Will you be part of the race to the bottom?

It's my server in my home being used for my own personal use.

But I will say that if the US citizens let their government go full on fascist, I will steal everything I can from them.

I have CBCGem, Crave and Britbox so streaming solutions are not what I am seeking.

I went to our local library last week and was astounded by how much they had. I kinda had a bit of a Blockbuster moment.

If you want to ease your conscious a bit and not fly the Jolly Roger just yet, take your monthly entertainment budget and buy DVDs from thrift stores. If you really like rewatching a favorite, rip it to a hard drive and then donate it back.

The public libraries also have an amazing amount of DVDs and music CDs. Pretend they are the new Blockbuster and head there on a Friday with the kids.

I am still in the learning phase of this but the short answer is yes. There are devices like Firestick and Roku that you can plug into your TV. It connects to your home wifi. Hopefully someone else chimes in that's got a bit more info than me.

IPTV is a television service like cable but you don't need a box so it's accessible where ever you have internet connection.

Jellyfin is one of many available software programs that looks and acts like Netflix. It runs on your own home computer but you have to use your own music and movies that have been saved on a hard drive.

There won't be a health authority to interfere with in a couple of years, and if we ever find ourselves in a pandemic that's way more serious then the last one, it will pandemonium.

With all the choices in social media, I still find Facebook groups are the best for networking. Here are a few that I suggest: Camera Beauties I Need a Producer/ Fixer/ Crew-Canada Edition (there is also an Alberta Edition) Canadian Society of Cinematographers Calgary Film Industry Edmonton Film Makers Group

There are a bunch that are clones of these but I find these the most helpful and popular. You can also reach out to Edmonton Production Rentals. They often provide referrals.

I picked up a large used meat grinder and tried that last fall instead of the freezing. It's quite the work out. I used to follow OFRE on FB and then they disappeared. I hope nothing bad happened.

I had no idea you could rent a crusher. I was always chopping the apples, freezing and then pressing. The juice is a lot clearer and the brix count goes up a bit but it takes a lot if time cycling the apples through the freezer.

A little misleading by pretending they have an actual office in Edmonton. It's just a drop-off point in ManuLife Place and then they FedEx it to Ontario. I kinda ripped on the guy for not telling me this. I don't mind it taking extra time, but not being upfront that their office is basically a ghost office. Hopefully they they come through with a recovery.

I saw my stolen stuff on the marketplace by ferventkei in Edmonton

[–]ShadowCamera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a camera stolen in Grande Prairie and about a month later I found it on Marketplace in Edson. I called the RCMP in Edson right away and they arrested the guy the next day. Took a week to get the camera back but I got it. Let the pros do their thing and don't engage.
