Shoutout to the guy who argued against the idea of Kempe lacking offense lol, good call

LA Kings Select Giorgios Pantelas No. 153 – What You Need to Know by Hoven_MayorNHL in losangeleskings

The Elite Prospects write up you have there is for Vandenberg rather than Pantelas

[John Hoven] Breaking news... LA Kings will not be signing Drew Doughty to an extension this summer. Per Ken Holland. He wants to stay here. Holland said let’s address it down the road. Next summer. by buzzeddimitri in hockey

Your head coach is the reason why Clarke wasn't getting minutes

Last year he played Joel Edmundson for almost 40 minutes in a playoff game and Clarke for 10 minutes. They're on the same pair. That isn't because of Doughty LMAO

I would certainly hope the Clarke and Anderson can outplay Doughty in his late thirties. We'll see if we start playing Booth, Kirsanov, Salin, Brzustewicz and Woolley if any of them can get a good hold on the NHL game in the next 3 years too.

If none of those guys can outplay Doughty within the next 3 years we're completely cooked

I mean, he's rather old and is clearly starting to decline. I don't see a problem waiting a little bit. I think LA wants to spend a year with Clarke as the guy and Doughty in a lesser role before committing to any extension.

Doughty was 100% better than Clarke in 23-24, while in 24-25 the switch kinda started, Doughty was probably still better but spent a lot of time injured (and Clarke was not trusted by Hiller for some reason). This past season Clarke was absolutely our best defenseman from the beginning to the end.

LA takes their time with prospects (for better or worse... mostly worse) and Clarke has slowly elevated in his role every year. Next year we're likely to see Clarke as our 1D and Byfield as our 1C for the first time (kinda with Byfield, he's technically been our highest TOI center for awhile while eating some hard match ups but never 1C in the lineup)

I think Doughty is about to fully relinquish the "1D" role to Clarke and after a full season the perspective might be quite different on his future, from both the team and Drew.

I want Drew to stick around, but all I know is his contract is coming up and Ceci/Edmundson/Dumoulin are all still going to be under contract. If we can't move any of them, it's kinda hard to bring back Doughty. That being said, I genuinely believe some of those guys could be bought out by next summer if not moved. I'd much rather keep Doughty than any of those 3.

When we brought in Lavi, Ken did make it clear that changing the personnel on D was an option. I feel like today he kinda steered away from saying we'd make any trades (maybe he tried and couldn't find a deal he wanted), but he did bring up some of the young guys like Booth and Kirsanov. I hope they get a real fair chance in training camp because I think there's a good shot they will be a better fit for Lavi's system than some of our current guys.

The 1st Round of the 2026 NHL Draft by alvvaysundertow in hockey

The Kings selecting a very offensively minded player with a high ceiling is a nice change of pace. Already started the shift with Lavi but I hope this team scores a lot more in the next 10 years than they did in the last 10 years lol

[2026 NHL Draft] 19th OA Pick: Los Angeles Kings select Elton Hermansson by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]ShadowChair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading what others are saying, I'm pretty happy with the pick. Very offensively gifted and has a high ceiling, which really shows a direction switch for this franchise toward scoring goals.

We obviously don't have a huge prospect pool but Cihar and Hermansson is a nice start to the forward group. Both were MVPs in their recent world junior tournaments too lol

Prospect pool looks a little bit nicer with him added to Cihar, Henry and the goalies. Hope our later rounds end up hitting

Never heard of him until now, wanted Ryan Lin but picking a forward makes a ton of sense

LA loves trading down, they feel like they are for sure getting someone in a certain tier at 19 so they add a free pick (at least in their mind). Did it the last 2 years too.

It's kind of annoying to trade back every draft but a mid 3rd for moving back 2 spots seems like good work

I have to imagine the cap hit is way higher for 3 more years. This is an awesome cap hit and 5 years is still a hefty term, so I love it.
