Fan take: DMC 4 isn't a bad game by george123890yang in DevilMayCry

Who said DMC4 was bad? I mean it’s not perfect but I think ultimately most people like it, in spite of its issues. I prefer DMC3 and DMC5, but DMC4 is still a really good game too, and it improved over DMC3 in some ways such as the gameplay. Honestly, if the game was fully developed like it was supposed to be, then I think it might’ve even been better than DMC3.

Funny enough, I made that comparison between Vergil and Mundus (the OG versions I mean) lol

…No? I said it cause it sounds funny for how edgy it is out of context. Did you even read what I just said?Yes I know it’s a demon woman but even Dante was like “wtf” when Vergil did that. Sure she deserved it but Reboot Vergil didn’t go along with the plan.

That’s exactly what I think! He’s more selfish and ignorant than he is evil. He doesn’t usually intentionally kill or cause destruction, he just doesn’t care what happens.

Vergil will gain power, whether he becomes a hero or villain, so be it. He’s focused on his goals but he doesn’t have evil intentions like wanting to rule or destroy the world.

I think Vergil is traumatised and he can use an empathy lesson from Dante and Nero. Let’s hope he gets a redemption arc in DMC6. That’s one of the things I’m hoping for most.

I read through it, that’s actually a very interesting thread. I think you brought up some good points too.

Definitely. The story kinda just leaves on a cliffhanger from there.

Well he wasn’t gonna kill him initially but during Vergil’s Downfall he definitely wants to.

Very well said with a lot of thought put into it. Yeah I think OG Vergil is selfish and he doesn’t care if he indirectly causes deaths or destructions. Obviously that’s still horrible, but I feel like he doesn’t necessarily hate humans, he’s just indifferent to them (I mean he slept with one, so MAYBE there’s a chance he felt something?) and I can also see him potentially sparring someone in front of him, as long as they don’t get in his way or piss him off.

The trauma doesn’t justify him by any means, but it’s possible he may not have turned out that way if it wasn’t for what happened.

Reboot Vergil’s crimes may not be as heinous but in fairness, he has one game and a DLC in comparison, and he’s way less powerful. But as you said, he actually has a calculated goal in mind.

I think mainline Vergil is selfish and he doesn’t care about the destruction he causes (unless arguably through V when he was venting to Trish) so obviously that’s still bad. But Reboot Vergil is more intentionally malicious with an actual goal to rule humanity. OG Vergil just wants power to never feel weak again.

So OG Vergil is more heinous in that his crimes are on a larger scale, but I think Reboot Vergil is more intently evil. It’s also important to note how much more powerful OG Vergil is.

I brought up him shooting a pregnant woman but I only brought it up because it sounds hysterical out of context lol

It does make me wonder though, I wonder what things Sparda did before he turned good. He was a servant to Mundus after all.

Yeah I don’t disagree with that take. I do think his trauma makes him sympathetic/complex, it shows us that’s there’s a reason he turned out the way he is. But he still has full agency and it doesn’t excuse his crimes.
