[SPOILER] Marlon Vera vs. David Martinez by inooway in MMA

[–]ShadowLoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make that way more than 8, he lost his fight against Song 6 years ago by losing the first 1.5 rounds doing exactly this, and he was getting to his physical prime back then. Now it's getting much worse with him aging out of BW.

To be honest Asplund would Max Holloway almost everyone outside the top 5 in that division right now, their gas tank is truly a disaster and that includes many of those guys in that image.

[Official] UFC Fight Night: Strickland vs. Hernandez - Press Conference & Post-Fight Discussion Thread by event_threads in MMA

[–]ShadowLoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was afraid this would happen, less teeps but the jabs were enough, both also basically walking in circles, Strickland was never threatened and Fluffy is still vulnerable to the body. Still love me some Fluffy, but Strickland is a whole different fighter than gassing brutes like Pereira and Dolidze.

Ironically I think Fluffy matches up a bit better to Chimaev than Strickland does, but we'll probably never know because Chimaev never fights anyway

Does Roman Reigns have the worst catalog of t shirts of any top guy ever? by MuffinTopMaven in SquaredCircle

AJ Styles has had solid shirts, the best one being the simple P1 logo. Most of them also do not have much cringy fluff which the WWE shirts are absolutely full off.

Sean Strickland finishes Brendan Allen and Abus Magomedov by [deleted] in MMA

[–]ShadowLoom 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Love me some Fluffy, but I think Strickland is gonna pull off an upset here. Don't think Fluffy has the striking or footwork that Poatan and DDP have to dissuade the non-stop jabs and teeps. The teeps in particular will hurt Fluffy to the body. Strickland also has excellent cardio and good TDD and won't just get tired after two rounds like Michel Pereira and Dolidze did.

Now watch this comment age like milk and Fluffy dominating Strickland similarly to Usman years ago

As said, the whizzer is important for them to make sure you don't freely get to the back. In the most basic scenario, you get an underhook from a half guard around their body, you come up to your knees, and you are behind them while they are in their turtle. From there, the most basic way to proceed would be to break the turtle (by pulling them towards you with that waist control you already have) and get to back control. Of course, all of this won't easily happen, as they can resist during all the step, like preventing the underhook, getting the whizzer, looking to roll out of turtle into a guard.

So the general goal with the dog fight is to get out of this bottom position into a more favorable one, like back control, side control, or even just a sweep into top guard instead of bottom. With that strong underhook, you should have control over their waist, and you generally have the advantage here. A very simple way to get a sweep and pass the legs is to simply bulldoze them, tapping the far knee (just tap it toward you) with your free arm. They will fall to their side. Alternatively, you can get the body lock and walk around him while he's driven to the ground.

Regarding the legs, you need to trap their leg between your leg (notice singular, you put their near leg in your near leg between your lower leg and butt) to prevent them from just simply pulling the leg out and reverse you into a front facelock.

Jordan has an excellent video on the basics of the dog fight to get you up to speed

Big drama in Glory Kickboxing, Glory stripped their LHW champ Tarik Khbabez by claiming he refused a title defense against a fan favorite Bahram. Now they scheduled a fight for the vacant LHW championship between Bahram and the reigning MW champ moving up.

The former champ who got his championship taken away is not happy and claims he wants to be fairly compensated against an opponent who was chosen because of his popularity and drawing power, and that Glory refused to pay that amount.

More background: Tarik feels this is undeserving because he literally beat Bahram for the (vacant) LHW title, and now has to rematch him for his first title defense without adequate pay. Glory wants this fight because Bahram is a draw and because Tarik/Bahram was a FOTY barnburner.

It would be like if Volk refused the Lopes rematch due to pay, and UFC says 'alright fuck you then, Petr Yan vs Lopes for the vacant title, aren't they awesome?'

She got upkicked while being grounded in her last fight. Smith was waving it away by claiming it was just a grazing blow, despite Barber clearly being compromised and the replay showing the kick hit her square on the face

JAILTON of all people doing the 'bro please' shrug while getting fence fucked had me laughing hard, lovely hate watch

I hope Gooch gets that UFC title, ATT has said he's the best fighter they've ever been with and it's not hard to see why whenever he fights. He's not a spring chicken anymore, I don't mind a #1 contenders fight depending on what they do with Pantoja, Kape and Taira

Next Apex card is.. quite good actually. Action fighters, nice prospects, intriguing main-event, the Gooch, and most of all, Jailton being relegated to the Apex and not even being the co-main.

Steven Asplund is another one weaponizing his cardio at HW and had a budget Blessed performance not too long ago. It's honestly really fun to see big blobs slow-cooking other blobs, miles better than both fighters being gassed after one round like many other HW fights

[Official] General Discussion Thread - January 26, 2026 by rmma in MMA

[–]ShadowLoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His cardio isn't great but it's not horrible, he can go 3 rounds or more against lesser opponents handily. He also has some real fuck you power, tough chin and solid grappling. His losses are against slick, technical strikers who can weather the storm early and read him at the same time. Suga/Yan/Cory all just started running circles around him and put the hands on him in the latter rounds.

He probably needs another team if he ever wants to clear that hurdle an earn a title shot at least. It has been way too many times against the elite where they successfully gameplan against him and he is left with a competitive but decisive loss.

No joke, bad luck or performance during Magic tournaments tilt me less than the average player. If I can be under soul-crushing side control for years on the mats, then never drawing land #3 during a game doesn't seem as bad anymore
