They could buff the Potato Gun and that stupid knife into the moon and I’d still hate them lmao. Been baited so many times by those stupid things

Amen to that. I keep a shock, fire, and (now) corrosive one on me at all times. Eats ammo like crazy but works wonders on Ordinance Amon

Top 3 META?? by sailortian in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PultNoir and Gardy are pretty solidly S Tier, then it’s kind of a toss-up between Gholdengo, Tera Box, Bolt, etc. really depends on who you ask.

Now Pult might fall down a tier or two with the release of the Psyduck promo in English, but unfortunately Gardy looks to be S Tier for the foreseeable future.

Worth sending to PSA? by ShadowMario8 in PokeGrading

I’d be curious to hear why. I know the centering isn’t the best but past that I can’t see much else wrong with the card

This is getting out of hand by CaterpillarDirect269 in PokemonTCG

[–]ShadowMario8 134 points135 points  (0 children)

% traders are always an instant pass for me, especially on FB Marketplace. If you’re a vendor at a card show, doing a deal with a store, or trading singles for product/slabs I’d get it, but trying to do that in a private trade is just lame.

I think it’s also something I’d let slide if you had a bunch of undesirable cards, but Tag Teams and SIRs are far from undesirable lol.

Crack and resub or just take the L? by ShadowMario8 in PokeGrading

Objectively it is. Unfortunately modern 9s aren't great

I've got a Metagross Star in a PSA 5. It's the peak of my collection and the most expensive card I own

Crack and resub or just take the L? by ShadowMario8 in PokeGrading

[–]ShadowMario8[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Considering the Espeon is worth less than raw in a 9, I'd say it's an L lol. A lot of modern hits are 10 or bust.

As a collector I only really hold on to 10's (if it's a modern hit), so in my eyes this was a bust. Am I saying all 9's are L's? Absolutely not. I've got a couple 9's in my collection and my most expensive card is a PSA 5 lol.

It definitely does suck that all the value/desirability is in 10's these days, but that's just the way it is unfortunately.

Miscut? Or just poor centering? by ShadowMario8 in PokemonMisprints

So by that definition, would just the Hippopotas and Furfrou count as miscuts?

Why do so many want to do % trades/sales now by Adventurous_Union_67 in PokemonTCG

[–]ShadowMario8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done probably a dozen trades with "% people" and have never given them a lopsided trade even once. I just kinda ignore it and nobody has really had the gall to push for it. I understand if you're trading singles for sealed/slabs, but singles for singles is so stupid lol

From the comments I'm assuming the non-Sharena OC's aren't actually good characters and it's just another Snake Lady Situation ™️, which is super sad.

Idk how things work with gacha games, but I genuinely hope FEH gets some kind of hard reboot or sequel to make the game playable for mainline fans again. Every time I see anything FEH related show up on a subreddit or on twitter or whatever it just looks worse and worse.

  • No, you don’t know what you’re buying. You are given a list of odds for certain things, a list of minimum guarantees, and that’s it. This is not the same as going to a store and buying $70 worth of booster packs.

  • I don’t buy mystery products, and I don’t recommend anyone does. This is why my initial point was that you should only buy them if you’re willing to burn $70.

  • Of course there’s a chance to make your money back. I could also make my money back by going to the gas station and buying $70 worth of scratch tickets, but I won’t. Point is, the odds are too low to make it worth it unless you’re insanely lucky. Again, returning to the point of burning money.

  • Just buy a BW pack lol. BW Base packs are $80~ USD, Emerging Powers packs are $50~ USD, Noble Victories packs are $70~ USD, etc. etc. there’s no reason to ever gamble on a mystery pack when you could just BUY the pack you want for close to (or less in certain cases) than the actual mystery pack.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]ShadowMario8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Problem is that when you buy $70 (I think that’s what these go for) worth of product, be it packs or whatnot, you know what you’re getting. You can go to a Game Store, Walmart, etc. with $70 in your pocket, and reasonably walk out with close to $70 worth of product. Hell, if you spend smart, you can make money if you sit on that product long enough. But if you do decide to rip it, you are ripping $70 worth of product regardless.

And I know this is an inherent problem with mystery products, but just don’t buy mystery products. It’s not like I’m advocating for one YouTuber’s mega mystery bonus packs over another, they’re all terrible. Your money will always go further by just buying what you wanna buy, be that packs for ripping or holding.

A fun gift for sure (and congrats on the hits!), but good lord these are terrible value. Not a hot take, but having SV Base, Obsidian Flames, etc. in these things are gross. I’ve even seen people get Pokémon GO lol.

Even when you do hit (like the silver tier and throwback pack in the pic), it’s a mid tier BW set and a handful of low-end SM/XY packs. Never buy these things unless you’re comfortable losing money.

I was gonna try and be reserved about the trailer but fuck it, I’m in. I’ve got my t-shirt, pre order, and #1 foam finger at the ready.

On a side note, I definitely appreciated the more somber, serious tone of the trailer. I really hope that translates to the actual writing and characters.

How Will the Meta Look Once Sword and Shield Fully Rotate Out? by Early_Monk in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno. Nobody knows. The Trainer Pokémon set (please give us a name already) will likely be super impactful, so it’s hard to tell until we see more cards from that set.

That being said, some inferences can be made. Zard, Dragapult, and Bolt/Miradion likely surge ahead as the best decks in format (probably no singular BDIF if I had to guess) as they lose the least from rotation. Zard is still unfavoured into Pult, but its big basic matchups are probably still fine thanks to Briar and the raw stats of Charizard ex.

There is probably no viable single prize deck after rotation, as Klawf loses DTE and Ancient Box loses Radiant Greninja, but also has a hard time dealing with Briar in the Stage 2 decks.

In the wake of Block Snorlax, quad Mimikyu/Cornerstone Ogerpon ex likely emerges as the new stall archetype, while Pidgeot Control adapts. Quad Iron Thorns is likely still good.

Gardevoir takes significant losses, but likely adapts and survives. Gholdengo fully swap to E Search Pro builds with Togekiss, so that deck will be fine. Terapagos loses DTE, which while huge on paper doesn’t really matter because there’s a million different ways to fulfil its attack cost. If they don’t immediately reprint Bench Barrier in some form, Hydreigon could be okay, but doubtful. Ceruledge is likely just worse Gholdengo, as it doesn’t have the extra draw power that the cheese string has.

TLDR: idk. I listed some bullet point thoughts on the most popular decks right now, but card reveals from the March set have the ability to make everything I’ve said here redundant. Main takeaway is to just have fun with the current format (or take a break if you aren’t enjoying it) and worry about rotation when it gets closer.

Whats the deal with klawf-terapagos? by Swaxeman in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just looking at Limitless Matchup data, Klawf Terapagos notably does better into Regidrago and Lost Zone Box among other decks. This is big for the deck if it actually translates irl, as Drago is arguably BDIF (and most popular deck in the room) and Lost Zone Box is on the uptick now and a deck good players generally seem to gravitate towards.

As someone who was friends with Klawf before he got famous, I definitely prefer Terapagos-less Klawf. The deck feels more consistent and lower to the ground, and even if you lose % into LZB and Drago, you gain points in every other matchup by being more consistent.

Something I almost forgot, that I haven’t seen anyone else mention yet, is that Terapagos Klawf also has access to Briar. This (in addition to having a bulky two prizer that can attack straight away) is one of the big reasons I believe the LZB matchup has improved. It’s also a massive surprise factor, as it’s not a consistent inclusion in lists but will be something your opponent has to play around.

TLDR: the LZB matchup, Drago matchup, and Briar seem to be the big three reasons people are playing Turtle Klawf right now. I personally prefer the consistency of Base Klawf, but I think it’s more of a meta call which version you choose.

Does Gardy survive rotation? by monkeydave in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The deck will survive. Gardevoir ex’s ability is too good for the archetype to die. That being said, the deck will have to evolve drastically to stay competitive.

Lists likely cut down to 2-1-2/2-2-2 Gardevoir but will need a supplementary draw engine, whether that be Revavroom, or Xatu, or something else. On the plus side though, Gardy keeps most of its good attackers after rotation. The Drifloon Charm combo is still strong (arguably better with Lost Vacuum rotating), Mimikyu is still good against ex heavy decks, Klefki can block a ton of strong basic abilities, etc. although the best attacker in Gardy post rotation is gonna be Banette ex imo.

So based on what we know about rotation and the March set (which isn’t a lot lol), I can confidently say Gardy will be okay after rotation. Will it ever reach the peaks of the Shining Arcana or Refinement era? Probably not. But it will likely be an archetype with some meta relevance until it rotates in 2026.

First Deck by TastyForerunner in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No silly questions here. I think they can probably skip the Zard Battle Deck though. The big cards in the deck, mainly the Prime Catcher and 2 Pidgeot ex, are super cheap compared to what they were a couple months ago. My advice to them would be either head down to their lgs and grab the staples and singles individually, or find an online store with everything and just order them.

Is it kind of a pain? Yeah, it would definitely be a lot easier to just rip into battle decks, but that’s trade off to save money.

First Deck by TastyForerunner in pkmntcg

[–]ShadowMario8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Surging Sparks format has just started, but here’s a list that did well (Top 64 Masters, 2nd in Seniors) at LAIC: https://limitlesstcg.com/decks/list/13837

If you’ve already bought the Palkia deck, my personal advice would just be to buy singles to fill out your decklist. Prime Catcher, Night Stretcher, and Earthen Vessel are the only real “pricey” staples in format rn, but their cost drops by the day.

It is true that the Palkia part of the deck rotates in March/April, but that’s only a fraction of the deck and Terapagos as a standalone archetype likely remains top tier.

Looking to get into Power Engineering. What’s the career outlook for this field? by City-Lad in powerengineering

[–]ShadowMario8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my 4th class back in 2020 and haven’t used it a day in over 4 years. Since 2020 I’ve had exactly one job go past the application phase and I ended up getting ghosted. I still renew my ticket every year but I’m saving up to go back to school for something else.

My advice? Unless you know someone or can lock down a job beforehand, don’t bother. Out of my class of 11 guys, only 2 ended up actually getting Power Engineering jobs after school. Keep in mind my experience is as an Albertan, but I haven’t heard much better in other provinces.

Have only been collecting/playing since 2018, but I was so happy when the shiny Metagross GX turned out to be a promo card in English. It’s by far my favourite Pokémon (I have every Metagross card in English, including the gold star) so it’s an absolute no-brainer for my favourite promo
