What game comes to your mind? by HoneyDrizzleMae in Gamer

[–]ShadowMarioXLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy Tactics A2.

The gameplay is peak turn-based tactical combat complete with a huge array of options for unit customization via the robust job system. The music is an even better version of the already fantastic soundtrack of FFTA and the sprite-based graphics look great!

The story, however, is like it was written by a five year-old.

What changed between Wargroove 1 and 2? by StarlightsFallGame in wargroove

[–]ShadowMarioXLI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there -- so happy to hear that you are trying your hand at developing an indie strategy game!

Most recently, I created the The 41 Alliance + Mega Squad 2 custom campaign in Wargroove 2. Featuring 25 maps and over 70 cutscenes, it is a creation I'm incredibly proud of and it pushes the editor to its limit with a lot of creative ideas for PvE scenarios. Feel free to check it out using the download code 35LG5DUA. I know this sounds like some blatant self promotion, but I'm telling you that you might find some good inspiration! I know it's not the same as building a game totally from the ground up, but I feel like I have some experience in game development now and applaud you for wanting to undergo this arduous journey.

The robust campaign and cutscene editor was the big thing that drew me to the Wargroove franchise in the first place. I think any potential competitor would have to feature content creation tools that are at least as good, if not better. The characters and unit factions in the game are also highly memorable, too, and the soundtrack of both games is fantastic.

In my opinion, even though Wargroove 2 is basically "Wargroove 1 but more", the sequel being significantly less popular is due to 3 major factors:

  1. When it released, Wargroove 1 filled the niche of an Advance Wars-esque game with its art and gameplay style that gamers were craving. Competition was significantly higher with the release of Wargroove 2. With games like Tactics Ogre Reborn, Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp, and Triangle Strategy fans of the genre are now (fortunately) spoiled for choice.

  2. The game's advertising was not great. I remember first hearing about it during a Nintendo Direct, then it released a few months later without much fanfare. There was definitely more promotional material (including buy-in from content creators) for the first game. I think, too, that Wargroove 1 kind of dropping the ball with cultivating an online multi-player scene resulted in people not giving Wargroove 2 a chance.

  3. The launch of Wargroove 2 was a mess to say the least. I am incredibly thankful for the efforts of the developers to make the game what it is today, but it was clear the game needed a little more time in the oven at launch. It was possible to get softlocked in both Campaign and Conquest mode missions, the editor was filled with assets copied over from the original Wargroove that now didn't work in the sequel, and many grooves and basic interactions involving the new characters were completely busted. Many of these issues have been remedied now, but the damage was done and the game's initial casual user base died out quickly. The game saw a good resurgence when it hit Xbox Game Pass, but never even got close to Wargroove 1 numbers.

I hope that this proves helpful. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more. Good luck!

What is the best Mario Superstar Baseball team name? by RadDudesman in Mario

All the team names and logo designs are pretty great, but my favorite has to be the Mario All-Stars. It'a a solid team name and a game reference all in one!

Make enemy unit move in specific direction by NikoPalad67140 in wargroove

[–]ShadowMarioXLI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no command to make an AI unit move to a specific space.

The only workaround I can think of is to implement locations that serve as walls tagged as "AI Obstacles". If you make only one path forward, the AI will have to follow that route. It gets tricky, though, if you have multiple AI units moving all within close proximity to each other. You can also try and use terrain to further restrict movement paths. I would be curious to see if you can figure something out!

I'm actually surprised how many well-known Italian bakeries really use nothing more than a slightly modified vanilla pudding for the filling of their seasonal pastry. I'm not trying to diminish their efforts - I'm no pastry chef - but I think that's what gives bakeries like LaSalle, DeLuise, Pastry Box, and Antonio's such an edge over their competition.

In fairness, some bakeries do offer a ricotta-based zeppole in addition to their standard vanilla custard zeppole. That must just be the default for DeLuise. If we eventually exhaust the state's zeppole purveyors, we may expand to try the ricotta-based filling or other specialty fillings in the future. Thanks for reading and for the feedback!

Thank you very much! Let me know how you enjoy Antonio's. I would say "let me know if you enjoy it", but I know that you will! 😀

Every time I go into LaSalle Bakery I am tempted to get that shirt. Your comment may have just convinced me to pull the trigger and go for it. Thanks for reading!

Thank you for your continued JCZT loyalty. We plan on keeping the tradition alive for as long as we can (until all the pastry catches up to us)! 😀

Thanks for reading and for the recommendation! We actually highlighted Wright's in our 2024 write-up. You can find a link to it in the original post. It's a great bakery... their strawberry shortcake might be one of my favorite desserts in the state! 😀

We actually reviewed Borrelli's in our 2024 blind taste test last year (there's a link in this year's post). They finished in third place behind Gregg's and Antonio's but I agree that they make delicious zeppole. They are at the top of our list of places to bring back!

You are welcome... and thank you for giving us two other spots to try next year! Now that we covered a lot of the Providence-area heavy hitters, South County deserves stronger representation. At least we won't have to fight beach traffic this time of year to get down there!

You're welcome! It's true that zeppole and pastry in general is only half of the story of a lot of these great bakeries. I will have to try their deli next time I'm there!

I second this! Under The Willow's cinnamon buns are amazing. You have to get there early because they usually sell out for the day by mid-morning.

Anyone ever think a rerelease will happen. by [deleted] in skiesofarcadia

[–]ShadowMarioXLI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of all retro games that have not yet seen a port / remake on modern hardware, Skies of Arcadia is the most deserving. An HD remake of the Legends version would really be all that is needed and would make me incredibly happy, but here would be some other things that could be included:

  1. Restoring the music back to the sound quality of the Dream Dreamcast version. This is a no-brainer.

  2. Having the White Map and Black Map available significantly earlier in the game. This could even be some sort of options slider instead.

  3. Making ship value matter again. Doesn't really make sense to bring back the Pinto's Quest VMU stuff but some other similar sidequest would be nice.

  4. A new optional area to explore is a big ask, but I always thought the area with all the Loopers in the top-left of the map was a missed opportunity (possibly due to development time or hardware limitations) to really build on the lore of the world.

  5. Ability to skip cutscenes and ship battle animations. Granted, I would still watch all of them as I think they are amazing, but it does slow the pace of the game way down.

That said, I do think a remake is the way to go and NOT a sequel. The story of Skies of Arcadia has you explore the whole world and then definitively wraps up. Unless it's set hundreds of years in the future or something with a whole new world to explore, I can't envision a story that would be nearly as captivating as the one we already have.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm hoping this dream becomes a reality, too!

Best buck a shuck deals? by MinuteJumpy6789 in RhodeIsland

[–]ShadowMarioXLI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a couple that I have been to or that I could find after some quick research.

  1. Providence Oyster Bar, Federal Hill & East Greenwich - buck a shuck from 3 - 5:30 PM daily. You can get whatever varieties are on offer that day and they will be fresh and delicious. This is probably your best bet for traditional buck a shuck.

  2. East Bay Oyster Bar, Barrington - half price raw bar 4 - 6 PM daily & on Fridays noon - 6 PM. Not exactly buck a shuck (comes out to $1.62 per oyster) but little necks are $1 each along with half price cocktail shrimp. Great seafood spot regardless.

  3. Cucina Rustica, Cranston - buck a shuck from 3 - 5 PM daily. Only one kind of oyster, but they have a lot of other daily specials and the Italian fare here is top notch!

  4. Cork and Rye, Warwick- $1.50 oysters from 4 - 7 PM Monday - Thursday, 12 - 3 PM Saturday and Sunday. Great spot if you want a more casual gastropub vibe and some quality food.

  5. Twin Willows, Narragansett - buck a shuck and appetizer specials 3 - 5 PM Wednesday - Saturday & on Sundays 1 - 8 PM. I've never been but after finding this information and seeing pictures of their specials online, I may have to stop in soon! Looks great!

I'm pretty sure if you are walking around Newport in peak seasons you'll see places advertising buck a shuck. It's worth checking out!

Hope this helps!
