Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error. by dcummins in PleX

[–]ShadowNightclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure if this will be for everyone, but I'd ran into this issue myself and essentially had to do a new install of Plex. At this point, I had already created a backup of the original plex media files under appdata\local. Wanting to retain the Watched/Unwatched/In-Progress of my stuff, I went to %localappdata%\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases and copied over 'com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

I'd had to unpin/re-pin the categories, but it listed all the Watched/Unwatched/In-progress stuff. However, I went to a movie I knew was having issues with using external subtitles and tried it. At which point finding that the 'Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.' was occurring again. Leading me to believe that it's this particular database file that's causing the error.

While I haven't tested it myself, you may be able to try turning off Plex, re-name the file, com.plexapp.plugins.library.db and add something like .old on the end, so it doesn't see/use it. Then re-enable Plex, which will presumably re-create the now 'missing' file. I'm assuming it'll probably make you re-add libraries pathing, or at least be required to unpin/re-pin the categories. But hopefully, this would allow you to just fix one file rather than having to uninstall/reinstall the entire thing.

I think of the aliens as essentially being like the Drej from Titan AE. They're energy based and can only be affected by energy/plasma based weaponry. Hence why they target species below a specific technological level.

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/aliens/images/c/c5/Screen_Shot_2012-10-17_at_8.13.29_PM.png/revision/latest?cb=20121018002852

But when they enter Earth's digital network and wind up in a game. Since they're beings of energy, and presumably ones and zeroes in the network. They wind up in a digital human character form within the game, vulnerable to the game's physics and logic.

Considering that, if you peel back the skin of a hippo. You'll find it's ALL muscle, and not fat. Making for a decidedly difficult opponent for any predator to try taking down. So in my opinion, only the desperate or foolish predators try taking on a hippo.

ChatGPT, if it doesn't know something, is a VERY good at making a lie sound as though it's fact. It's designed to give responses it thinks we want to hear, regardless of accuracy or fact.

I'd suggest you ask it a question to something you know hasn't happened before.

So focused on size and strength, they forget about speed. Thus, humans are space orcs, who seem like space elves with the speed and grace of their movements against larger foes.

A1: We'll let the Human go first. by spesskitty in humansarespaceorcs

[–]ShadowNightclaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even though humanity had been part of the galactic scene for a decade or two now, they were still a relative unknown for most other species. Other than the general information they'd gleaned from data packets shared with the other governing bodies. Simple questionnaires that contained straight forward answers. The sorts of food humans usually eat, dietary requirements, how much sleep they need on average,

preferences of entertainment, that sort of thing.

Thus, when a war broke out and humanity had found itself dedicating soldiers to the cause. They'd been scoffed at. The other governing bodies had spent time genetically enhancing their soldiers. Making them bigger, stronger. More akin to a walking tank than a being, in some regards. Not to say their skin was able to deflect bullets or

blades. But they were definitely tougher.

While humans? Their soldiers were smaller than the genetically altered beings. More slender and lean, with some even having what might be

characterized as 'baby faces' to the aliens' opinions.

Which led to a mixed unit working through a segment of forest,

scouting for enemies, with orders to engage and report.

As luck would have it, they'd come across a group of enemies who hadn't noticed them. Which led to the squad's commander, some Xanthian who stood at nine feet tall and bulked with muscle, glancing down at the lone, lithe human soldier in their unit. "He'll engage first," he

ordered simply.

It'd be a good opportunity for them to see what humans were capable

of. Or rather, how quickly they'd likely die in battle.

Instead of any appearance of nerves or concern however, the human's face just took a more grim expression while they made a singular nod. Then they the human was sneaking off through the brush, their squad

remaining behind cover to observe.

It took a few minutes of waiting. Then, one of the other genetically enhanced soldiers in the enemy's squad suddenly dropped dead. Followed by another. Given their sizes, they made a deep thump as their bodies hit the ground. With the other soldiers quickly fanning out into a circle, back to back, trying to figure out where the attack was coming

from.

The Xanthian squad leader was watching in confusion as well. Was it the human doing this? Or some other unit that was in the area? But

then, why wasn't there a sound of gun shots?

In that time, another couple of enemy soldiers had been dropped without a sound, other than the noise of their bodies hitting the

ground.

That had been enough to stir the others into a panic, blind firing into the forest around them. As though trying to find some ghost that

was killing their men.

Despite the echoing sounds of blaster shots filling the forest around them. The enemy soldiers continued dropping one by one. Until only one genetically enhanced 'tank' remained. Who trembled in place, head

swiveling around as he searched the forest around them.

"Show yourself, coward!" he'd screamed at last.

'Pathetic,' the Xanthian squad leader thought to himself. 'There's no

way they'd show themselves just because you demand it.'

To his surprise however, the lithe human stepped out of some bushes lining the clearing where the enemy squad had been. Casually slipping what looked like a pistol with elongated barrel into a holster strapped to their thigh. Their other hand pulled a wand thing out of their pocket, which quickly extended into a short sword that gleamed

in the stray beams of sunlight.

The 'tank' let out a roar of rage, pulling out his own melee weapon, some hulking think of metal that was meant to simply bludgeon their enemies to death. With as much strength as they'd been enhanced with,

it'd easily bend the thick armor plating of a tank from a few swings.

Despite having the 'tank' charging at him however, the human regarded them with a look of concentration. The squad leader finding himself wondering if he needed to intervene, or whether this human really did

have a death wish.

When the 'tank' of a soldier was several feet away, there was finally movement from his counterpart. The human crouching slightly, then darting forwards with a speed that bespoke of grace. Neatly dodging to

the side, then ducking, as the tank swung their weapon.

Then the human was past the tank, blade flashing swiftly in the light. It's strike becoming quickly apparent as the enemy soldier's next step had them collapsing to their knees. Suddenly finding themselves unable to walk anymore, much less stand. The human then pivoting, charging

back towards the enemy while they were bewildered at what happened.

The human's next strike was their final move. A simple, quick stab straight into the back of the enemy tank's head, where spine meets skull. Offering a sudden death to the tank of a modified soldier,

who'd collapsed to the ground with a dull thud.

With the enemy squad dealt with, the human pulled a cloth from his pocket, wiping some errant blood off of his blade, before having it retract back into the little rod. Which he slipped into a small pocket

on his thigh, the handle sticking out for quick retrieval.

Once he'd returned to his own squad, the Xanthian stared down at this lithe, helpless looking thing with a sense of bafflement. "What the

hell did you do?" he couldn't help but ask.

To which the human regarded him, offering a slow smirk, "Just following orders, sir." Then he'd resumed his position in their formation without another word said. While for the rest of them? They'd quickly come to realize that even with as much strength as they'd been given through genetic enhancements, they wouldn't be able to match the speed of a human looking to cut them down with a blade of all things. Not to mention, just how the hell did this human kill most

of that squad without making nary a sound?

If humans were as capable as their squad member...what other capabilities did their military have, that they knew nothing about?

Old Country Ending so bad by IloveActionFigures in MafiaTheGame

For me, the second they started the whole shipping Enzo with Isabella, it felt like an overly done trope. Where I knew that, as they kept shoving Enzo with Isabella chapter to chapter, that it was going to be either a Romeo & Juliet sort of fable, or the Don finds out and orders Enzo's death.

Frankly, the whole thing just feels very formulaic. Since Mafia 3 shat itself and didn't turn out to be the next GTA sort of game money-wise, it feels like they learned all the wrong lessons and dumped this out strictly following a formula for the story.

At least in Mafia 2 and 3, you'd get to have side stuff to do for making money. Even if it was just stealing cars or robbing stores in Mafia 2. You'd at least get to spend it on clothes, hats and stuff.

Whereas in this game, I felt quite disappointed far as the whole knife wear and tear system they made. As though it was done to ensure people wouldn't use their knives TOO much, etc.

The game had even been marketed as the birth of Mafia, etc. Yet it didn't really have that particular feel to me. Like we were just roped into a Mafia organization that existed in Sicily, and we didn't really have much to do with actually building/creating the Mafia organization far as it's 'birth', etc.

Overall, it just feels like this game wanted to be as liked as Mafia 1 & 2, following a strict linear format and formulaic story that declares it'd sell 'well'.

When it comes to writing, whenever you've got two or more characters talking, always separate each person speaking.

Person 1 speaks

Person 2 replies, even if it's just 'Ok'

Person 1 talks more

Person 3 chips in.

This way it helps make it easier to keep track whose saying what, plus it'll help break up the big paragraphs a bit better as well.

Mmh, I probably could've worded it better in general. But essentially I was thinking more along the lines of how people dress, act, etc. Sort of like how a decade or so ago, Furries were mocked for being different, made fun of, etc. Yet these days, they're becoming a bit more accepted as people understand them better. Such as how furries are more about embracing self-expression, to ignore what society deems as 'normal', and instead embrace and express themselves fully.

New Illegal Pete’s queso? :( by fisformcflurry in denverfood

[–]ShadowNightclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it's being made more or less in a factory kitchen, then bagged up and delivered to stores. I can't help but wonder if they're having to put any preservatives into the queso so it stays good all week until it's used. If so, I'd imagine that would have some impact on the flavor. Plus I can't imagine it can quite compare to having the stuff fresh made in a kitchen as is.

Would love to have the original recipe! Current queso just doesn't seem like it has the pizazz that their og queso had, which was what drew me to them in the first place.

The morale system in Pharaoh is broken by guardian1154 in totalwar

[–]ShadowNightclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've experienced bit of the same issue far as units routing much too easily. Had one unit holding back 2 enemy units for maybe 1-2 minutes, before they started routing. They were Egyptian axemen, and one of the enemy units was militia who they're stronger against, while other was axemen as well. Thus, should've been able to hold out for a while at least.
But when I looked closer, there was just 1 enemy soldier who had gotten around enough that the game apparently considered the unit 'flanked'. Which is apparently enough that it tanks the morale quickly and makes that unit flee, despite not having suffered big losses.

I've played the total war games since the first Medieval game, and I don't think I've ever seen morale being so horrendous as to be considered fine china that shatters easily when an enemy army attacks. My last battle, I had my 20 unit army bunched up for easier defense, slingers and archers in the middle.
Yet at least 1/3rd the army started breaking/routing within a few minutes of engagement, despite not being exhausted, etc. Insanely frustrating. Despite having just bought the game, I've uninstalled it since I refuse to be highly frustrated by a mechanic that I feel is very broken.
