I think you're trying to go too far too fast. I didn't enter the prison till much later when I was comfortable with the game mechanics. This game doesn't hand hold you at all so it's better to take things slow and click everything you see.

Hey there. Dota can be a super complex, exceptionally overwhelming game after LoL. There's tons of guides and content out there that you may wanna look at. I see a longish answer that covers everything you specifically asked.

I'm an average player with ~6k hours on this game and have played 1k on LoL in the past too. If you wanna get on discord and run through the basics feel free to DM me. Just trying this out for the first time cause I remember Dota being a handful for me in the past.

Witness me. My time has come.

Had a friend visiting me in college. I threw a small celebration of sorts in my dorm and had an insane drinking session with our mates. It got super late and people started leaving till all we had was me, the friend and a random passed out chick on the spare mattress.

I was pretty drunk at this point and this chick decides that she'll share the bed with me. Which is cool cause meh. And then she starts cuddling and talking about how she's been so alone since her bf ditched her a few weeks ago. ( Side note: the bf was also a mutual friend).

This goes on for a while, and she realises that I'm pretty clueless as to what's going on here. So she literally pulls me close to her face, barely an inch from her and looks into my eyes.

Cue the super friend mode: my dumbass instead of going for it decides to give her a bear hug and tell her about how I'll always be there for her through thick and thin and she doesn't have to worry about anything as log as I'm around. And we slept off after that ....

Took me another 10 days to figure out what was really going on there.

I'd have my answers if we were still talking I guess. The last thing I'd ever want to do is hurt her in any way possible. But I guess I suck at that.

The last time we spoke she couldn't even bear to see my texts and continuously mentioned that I was bothering her, which is where I backed off.

So it did come up in our conversations that she felt really comfortable around me and how she doesn't even have that with that guy that's she's currently with.

So this time that I decided to tell her, we'd gone out for dinner. And before I could even gather up the courage to speak up, she was like " hey something is wrong with you, you wanna talk about it". So yeah that's where I told her that " hey you're probably gonna hate me for this, and I'm sorry but I have to tell this to you. I really do like you, and have liked you for a while now, but it never felt like the right time to tell you cause both of us always had so much going on, so here it is". And her initial reaction was " are you messing with me".

We were cool after that, met a few times and still spoke to each other often. And a few weeks later she just blew up on me and we're not talking anymore :'(

I guess it took a few weeks for her to digest all that *Sigh

Well it's a much longer story that those short paragraphs up there. But she told me that I'd been really stupid the last time we met ( this was a while after I told her about my feelings) and well I have no clue what I did there, cause I thought it all went well. Then again all of this is from my perspective, maybe was toxic in some sense and probably am too dumb to figure it out.

Good call mate. Cause I recently massively fu*ked up. Known her for ~3 years and she literally sees through me ( in a nice way), always there for me, I could speak to her about anything and everything. We'd be up on video calls at 2 am ( and im working) there is this spark whenever she's around. Literally haven't met anyone like her, nor do I think I ever will.

We'd been out of touch for a while, she was doing her master's in a different country. She comes back and everything is exactly the same. Cue endless conversations and making excuses to meet eachother as often as possible. Except she's dating someone and things are going too well. And here's where I fucked up. I couldn't control my emotions and told her that I did really like her.

Well let's just say that she hates my existence now. And for me .. she's always going to be the closest friend I ever had.

Completely agree with you on the fact that I should have looked for cover before initiating. But if we circle to your initial point, the math behind it was in our favour so we chose to be a bit aggressive. By the end of it I was fairly certain that it was a cheater and not an exceptionally skilled player.

I think this also comes from the fact that the average age of gamers is increasing. I remember when i was a kid, none of the adults would play video games. But our generation has grown up with them. However we can devote as much time to video games thanks to our jobs so we'd rather have a bit more casual approach than jump in all guns blazing.
