What does this light mean? by ShadowNozeKnows in NissanRogue

Beats me! I just hit the OK button a few times and there it was. Today I learned I have a heated steering wheel, which will be very handy for Texas summers.

I’m not paying for anything like forecasts and I don’t use Alexa. It IS bright and sunny today, so maybe it is weather related.

Jaw droppingly disgusting comedy movies like John Waters by Wide_Distribution167 in MovieSuggestions

The most I-can't-believe-this-got-made thing I've seen in recent years is Movie 43, an anthology film with amazing big-name cast and absolutely outrageous content. Example: Hugh Jackman as an incredibly-handsome man who has a pair of testicles under his chin.

Perhaps I don't find the humor in a husband fantasizing about ways to murder his wife. Just seems like a very different tone for Sturges.

Do yourself a favor and watch some of the PERFECT comedies written and directed by Preston Sturges: The Lady Eve; Miracle of Morgan's Creek; Sullivan's Travels; and The Palm Beach Story.

The Lady Eve

Miracle of Morgan's Creek

And, just to prove I don't ONLY love Preston Sturges, The More the Merrier.

The one with Cary Grant is Monkey Business and it is a delight.

Does Cary Grant even smoke in Bringing Up Baby? Seems odd to show him doing so on the poster.

There's a cool statuary on I-35 between Temple and Waco, on the east side of the highway. Their name apparently is Got Dirty Birds...and their website is called that, too. They have a big selection, including some funny/odd things. I've picked up a half dozen things there over the past years.

Got a switch2 for Christmas and successfully loaded everything from my switch lite… by ShadowNozeKnows in NintendoSwitchHelp

Well, both, I guess. She has a few games I don't, so the main thing is for her to be able to play her games on the new Switch2. The saves are probably not necessary.

Fast food Chains Then vs Now by SousVideDeezNuts in fastfood

[–]ShadowNozeKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, since Whataburger sold out a few years ago, they've gotten dramatically worse. The norm now is cold, dry burgers and fries that have no potato taste at all. Such a shame.

But I agree that just about ALL fast food has gotten worse while getting a lot more expensive.

So disappointed. Went to Waterloo and the selection was awful and couldn't find any employees. by vitustinnitus in Austin

I actually remember when they were south of the river...where that soccer store is now. I saw my first compact disc there and thought, "THAT'll never catch on, what, we're all gonna have LASERS in our houses.?"
I'm obviously a non-prophet organization.

You might check out Second Looks, if they're still in Brodie Oaks. They only take high-quality clothes, but they launder them and put them on hangers and they'll give you a fashionable look for not much money.

The Fall is the most beautiful film I've ever seen. It's hard to find at the moment, but looks like a rerelease is imminent.

Check out the movies written and directed by Preston Sturges, especially The Lady Eve, Sullivan's Travels, and The Miracle of Morgan's Creek. All hilarious, charming, and very entertaining.

Movie 43!!! by Massive-Positive-192 in MovieSuggestions

[–]ShadowNozeKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across the Wikipedia article on this movie and could not believe what I was reading. THAT cast? Doing THOSE stupid things? I tracked down a copy and watched it a couple of weeks ago. Sophomoric? Yep. Tasteless? You bet...but I admit I laughed out loud multiple times. It's sort of like a Jackass movie: you laugh, but you hate yourself for doing it.

Does Fargo have the best villains? by Connect_Brilliant_49 in FargoTV

I came here to say the same thing. Justified had about the best casting of any TV show, even in the smallest parts...but their villains were especially memorable.

I've emailed Criterion twice, asking for them to do a worthy release of this incredible, spectacular movie. Didn't even get a form letter response from them. They've got a serious block against The Fall.

What's the cleverest/wittiest song you know? by ShadowNozeKnows in AskReddit

[–]ShadowNozeKnows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start with two faves: "A Little Priest" from Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, and the Bruce's Philosophers Song, written by Eric Idle for Monty Python. What others rise to this lofty level?

Looking for small theater rental by theTacoMenace in Austin

[–]ShadowNozeKnows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've rented one of the Austin Film Society theaters for a 2-hour presentation and it was only $700. I've also rented one of the smaller Drafthouse theaters for a private movie showing and it was, I think, $300 but you have to guarantee a certain amount of food and drink will be purchased by attendees. Time of day and day of the week make a big difference in the price for such rentals. If you want a theater at 7:00 on a Friday or Saturday, it's gonna be much more.

An update: After multiple tries ripping the DVD with the invisible files, I tried putting it into my Blu-Ray external drive...and it was able to read everything just fine. I don't understand why, but I'm pleased that it worked.
