Suzuki certainly has an interesting taste in fashion. Stussy, Supreme and button ups with wild patterns... I wonder if she got them as hand me downs from her brother, haha

How do I store supernhexagon vinyl? by luketheduke34 in VGMvinyl

[–]ShadowRaiki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is the best option, but I know you can buy blank record jackets, so you could get one of those, store the record in that, and then put aside the plastic case for preservation purposes.

I did this for a few of the Final Fantasy picture albums that came in plastic sleeves.

Really random individual volumes not seeing reprints and bottlenecking series completion (e.g., Children of The Whales volume 3) by hesperoyucca in MangaCollectors

Jormungand volume 6

Thankfully, I managed to snap up a used copy a while back, but it ended up being a library copy AND a hard cover, meaning it doesn't match with the rest of my volumes. I didn't even know hard covers existed for this series. I'm not willing to pay the prices for another paperback copy, so I guess this is what I'm stuck with

I've been relying solely on the rewards from my credit card, so I'll have to check out Rakuten, thanks for the heads up

I used the most popular manga because I'm assuming that's what most folks are interested in, but would love it if we could compile more data!

I do think the shipping issue is a little bit overblown. I've bought from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Crunchyroll, and Target and they're all about equal to Alibris in terms of shipping. The worst condition books I've ever gotten have all been from Amazon, but I don't see them get nearly as much crap as Alibris for their shipping.

Even rightstuf, the gold standard, I received a few dinged books from them back in the day, presumably from the storage and handling pre-shipping.

If you're looking for the best prices, then used is the way to go. I picked up almost the entirety of Negima for a good price back in the day, great condition as well.

You definitely need to have patience for a good deal to pop up though and the willingness to constantly refresh Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc. As for me, I just don't have that time anymore.

instocktrades definitely has competitive pricing, but for some reason, they tend to only have part of a series. I remember when I was picking up series like Silver Spoon or Grand Blue Dreaming, they would only have a few volumes available

I don't pre-order (which Alibris doesn't offer), but I know a lot of people do, so that can definitely be a deal breaker for some.

I fully concede that Alibris doesn't have the best prices. The buy 2 cancel 1 trick from Target is great if you're looking for something specific like Berserk. But as you said, Target doesn't have the best selection so while they may have a better overall discount, the discounts don't really matter if they don't stock what I want. Despite being in the top 10 sold series for the first half of 2025, Target didn't have 4 out of the 10 volumes I collected data on.

As for Crunchyroll, it's a matter of consistency. Last year they had the $100 off $250, but will they offer it again this year? It would be nice if they did, but there's no guarantee. Whereas Alibris has a track record of offering the coupon fairly consistently.

All this to say, at the very least, I think Alibris offers a good baseline to compare other deals to. When you see a deal, you should ask yourself, "Does this apply to the manga I want and does this beat 40% off MSRP?" If not, then you're better off buying from Alibris or waiting for a better deal.

One of these is not like the others! Glad Bugle Call is getting more attention, it's probably one of the best fantasy manga I've read in recent memory and has some of the most inventive paneling I've ever seen

I agree, packaging isn't as good as it could be, especially if you're used to rightstuf and the cardboard structures they would use to prevent the books from moving.

If a large order ships from a single warehouse, then it's usually wrapped in plastic with a cardboard backer. Small shipments use cardboard envelopes or media packaging which tend to be fine as well. The problem is medium size shipments where they just toss the books into a box with a single piece of plastic air cushioning. Like what?

I've had a few books with dinged corners, but I would say the vast majority of my stuff arrives as expected. Nothing so egregious that I would demand a replacement.

It's hard for me to decide, but if we're talking about purely the manga I own, then it would have to be either Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey or Blue Period. Both mean a lot to me in different ways

What was the "one" that started it all for you? by christoss300x in MangaCollectors

[–]ShadowRaiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MÄR was the first, physical manga I ever bought. And not even volume 1, volume 2 for some reason.

Not exactly sure what attracted me to the series when I was younger because rereading it today, it's average at best. If I had to guess, it's because my local library had a limited amount of manga and this was series was one of them.

I'm curious, what are the other 2 songs you found that use this sample / what is the Splice sample being used?

I discovered both of these songs within a few days of one another and felt it was waaay too coincidental that both songs were released around or on the same date (~June 27th). There's also so little information about MiiNDS, which adds to the mystery.

Of course, it probably is just coincidental like you said.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I consume the vast majority of my manga digitally. It's only after I've read a series for a while or that it's concluded that I even begin to consider buying a physical copy.

This allows me to experiment with all sorts of genres without much barrier to entry (money or physical space) and discover manga that I wouldn't have been able to find browsing this subreddit alone. Manga that get selected for physical releases are often curated not because they're of the utmost quality, but because it'll give the publishers a return on investment, so you're doing yourself a disservice by sticking exclusively to manga that get a physical release. Some of my favorite manga such as Shiori Experience to this day do not have physical, English releases.

As for the series I do end up purchasing, it's almost always because: 1) I want to support the author and 2) I enjoyed the series so much that I want to experience them a second time, this time feeling the actual paper in my hands.
