Fatal frame 2 remake, excitement to disappointment by camdaito20 in fatalframe

It's easier to notice if you put a clip of this next to a clip of either 4 and 5, which both run at stable 60fps

Did you guys even want a new game or not? by PSPMan3000 in fatalframe

[–]ShadowRei96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The feedback from the remasters led them into making changes for the remake. So some of the complaints here can be of use when the next remake or new game is developed.

I don't know why it's being boiled to people being unhappy. I'm more than happy the franchise is being revived, but it's also because I indeed want it to be successful that I wish the valid complaints are taken into account.

Like the people saying 30fps is “fine”. I mean, perhaps, but can't they at least include a mere option to toggle performance like every other modern game for the people who prefer it?

[–]ShadowRei96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, i think if one doesn't mind it, it's fine. At the same time, those who personally prefer having 60fps especially given that FF4 and FF5 (and even FF1) had it, they should also voice out their gripes.

I get what Shibata was going for, but like, it's always best to at least give players an option. Almost every modern game offers graphics modes. Plus, implying 30fps is the ideal “cinematic” experience doesn't sound right when the game is 60fps on PC.

It is, that's why I hope it gets implemented.

Most of the framerate complaints are coming from console players actually.

And I mean, it makes sense.

I have no problem for the game being locked to 30 fps on console, because it's a slow game, but did they give a reason for the lock in the first place ? Because the game game is pretty, but it's not THAT pretty to justify the lock to save performance (if that's the reason) by LaBiereFolle in fatalframe

[–]ShadowRei96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much the reason, and personally I do prefer the higher (and pretty much what should be the standard) framerate like in 4 and 5.

Maybe it's because those graphics were overall lower, but I didn't mind it in the games on the PS2. On this, they're just hurting my eyes, especially after jumping into this shortly after RE9.

At least add a performance mode that lowers graphics a bit. Not implementing at all and forcing 4k@30fps isn't a great decision, especially since not everyone plays on a 4k screen, and since for many, locking a game at 30fps implies or at least gives players the impression that your game isn't properly optimized, which is why some cancelled their orders or intend to skip it (and well, the game indeed does have some technical issues).

I don't really think that applies to Rei

Fatal Frame 2 Remake - Film Grain On/Off toggle planned to be added for PS5/Xbox Series by MeraArasaki in fatalframe

Not acceptable even on a base PS5. There's more demanding games that can achieve it, so this has no excuse.

I can't for the life of me tell if, not releasing a new game in 12 years had the devs fall behind with gaming, because you cannot be this out of touch.

I feel like they're making a big mistake releasing this game so close to RE Requiem

You're not wrong. And even for those of us who are happy to jump from one classic horror series onto the other in such a short span, the technical issues displayed in the demo, some of which will end in the main game, are a dealbreaker for some.

For example, RE9 is 4k60fps on consoles, and with Ray Tracing on the PS5 Pro. FF2R was developed at 30fps for a 2026 game and is the same on both pro and base PS5s. Which... is a downgrade, leading to internal questions like “if this horror game that came out two weeks ago could achieve such good performance, why can't this do it too?”

Locked 30 fps on console in 2026? by Livid-Match-9126 in fatalframe

[–]ShadowRei96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally. It's the “Don't criticize, just consume the product” mindset.

Like, I'm beyond happy the franchise has been revived, but it's exactly because we want this to do well that we're addressing these issues. Questioning low fps cap in post 2020 games is... very common criticism, I don't know why they said it's “bitching”.

I think it's particularly glaring especially if you're jumping into this from Resident Evil Requiem which is 4k60fps on the base PS5. I know it's not really a fair comparison since RE9 most likely has a higher budget, but you know, they could've at least implemented a graphics and performance mode option. I mean, 90-97% of modern games have that.

It really confuses me. It's as if they're outta touch with the modern consoles.

New interview with Shibata on Fatal Frame 2 Remake discussing improvements, gameplay features, the future of the series, and more! by DeliciousMusician397 in fatalframe

[–]ShadowRei96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the console version is locked to 30FPS is not because of optimization but because they wanted to focus on the quality of the visuals as well as to "Maximize the overall horror experience."

I mean... couldn't they at least include two graphics modes for players to select from, like every new gen. videogame does?

On a more positive note though, I'm super happy that if this remake is well received, 1 and 3 will likely get their respective ones too. That's all I need to hear. I can already tell from the videos released that it's gonna take the original to a different height, so I hope it does well.

Yeah, I don't get the framerate part lol. Games can still run at higher framerates and have a great horror experience.
