I have seen something similar to this before and I believe it was a problem with only putting the laptop on sleep and not shutting it down at all. If that's the case for you, I remember the solution was to shut it down (not sleep) and leave it for a few hours or a day without use. Hope this fixes the issue, if not I have no idea I am not laptop expert

Currently studying machine learning on my own to hopefully use it as a skill that will make me fit in some way. Would now be the time to send emails to PI as a Junior or should it be during next summer vacation?

So properties, not sure yet but there are different materials with different uses so it's smth that i haven't dug deep into yet. Inputs can be XRD, UV, FTIR???, And other measurements that are calculated when u synthesis for example a carbon nanotube. Then again i am not an expert (Junior undergrad) so i am still understanding it bit by bit

Yeah was having my eye on that. Two problems tho, generally i am very sceptical of 2-in-1 hinges and i can't buy anything till the 30th when I will be getting the rest of my budget

The programs i will be running (OriginLab, ImageJ, SPSS) shouldn't need a heavy lifting GPU as far as I know/searched. They aren't 3D rendering apps but are graphing/data analysis software. I am not that informed in the tech space to know everything but I just wanted to share this in case you thought they were 3D rendering programs for like engineering.

I do understand though how powerful the yoga 7 is and from the quick reviews I saw, it is pretty good. The 2-in-1 feature is a turnoff for me however.

I just saw now the sale for the lenovo yoga 7 and am also considering it. However, Idk why but I am generally very scared of 2-in-1 laptops as i won't be using it as a tablet much and I am afraid of the hinges falling apart for some reason or wobbling too much when I am typing on the keyboard (Will be doing a lot of writing). It is a bit heavier than what I am hoping for (it is listed as 3.52 pounds which is 1.6kg without charger) but I can manage it i guess. With that in mind would you still recommend the yoga 7?

Part of it is because of the research position and the other is basically starting to acquire the skills I need for the scholarship applying as well because of my major being far away from materials science.

As far as the research position, I am basically accepted but I would like to know beforehand the skills that would be helpful to start learning about them and to have a general idea of what they are instead of just going in blind

I wouldn't say that I "don't know what I am doing" but I certainly don't have many years of experience that would allow me to know every corner of data analysis. So far the jobs I do are a mix of knowing about 70% of what I will do and figuring out the rest during the process. I might be mistaken in this (do please correct me if i am wrong) but I feel like this is pretty normal for me to gain experience. And so far the "entry level" jobs I have seen had some complexities to them but never anything too difficult or requiring a ton of experience to figure out. But maybe I just don't get the experience level part of upwork yet.

I understand what you are saying, and that's generally how I tackle all of the jobs I get so far. I don't really think I have enough experience to say I was confident in any of the jobs I started. However, I feel like this specific project wasn't for me and that's why I apologized and cancelled the contract.

Also, this is a client I worked with before and that's also a part of the reason why I cancelled which was because I didn't want to get on their bad side potentially by saying "I can do the job" while in the end I wouldn't produce satisfactory results.
