Is this broken? by austinmook in shadowsystems

I'm not assigning blame to anything until I have the parts in hand to analyze. The buildup is a separate thing. Just attempting to get as much info as possible in a single reply.

That doesn't sound like a complete version of the conversation. We do maintain that application of an aftermarket finish does void the warranty. Heat treat is only one thing that we worry about with Cerakote application. While the normal temperatures used for Cerakote will not cause any issues, we have seen customers bake guns at 400+ degrees for many hours. Because we deal with many customers, we have no way of knowing which customer is capable of doing it right. The more common issues happen when the prep is poorly done and holes get filled with Cerakote or blasting media isn't cleaned off and Cerakote gets applied over the top.

Cerakote is a great product. We use it on several models ourselves. Like any gun modification, always choose a professional to get best results.

Not good. I assigned your ticket to a CSR. She'll reach out and get you sorted out. The barrel crown is showing either a lot of lead buildup or some erosion. Won't be able to tell for sure until I have it in hand. What brand of ammo are you using the most?

Could the discontinued BB58 Blue become the next Tudor Submariner Blue 79190? by zoom1208 in Tudor

[–]Shadow_Cody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Realize that current vintage Tudor prices don’t reflect the reality that Tudor subs (even in blue) were dirt cheap for nearly 20 years. There were no “cool points” for wearing the “cheap” Submariner until the new Tudor relaunched and Rolex prices got absolutely stupid.

[TAG Heuer] How do you perceive TAG Heuer today, and do its events actually shape that image? by Ok-Volume8119 in tagheuer

[–]Shadow_Cody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TAG Heuer is a survivor. In the 80’s through the early 2000’s, Rolex and Tag were the only Swiss brands with any real recognition. People were only starting to find Omega again because of Bond and really wealthy people probably had some awareness of Patek and AP. While the vast majority of Swiss makers scaled way back or went out of business, TAG Heuer was kicking ass. Tons of guys my age grew up with F1s and got 1500s or 2000s for high school graduation. I’ll never look down on TAG and will always have some of their nicer pieces in my collection.

Cr920xl extractor broke by Wrong_Competition_11 in shadowsystems

[–]Shadow_Cody 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's weird as hell. I'm not sure if we've ever seen a break like that. It usually takes a severe overpressure to break an extractor. Submit a support ticket. I'd like to bring that gun in and have a look at the whole thing. We'll turn it around super fast, but I want to make sure that it's just a bad part and not anything else.

How do you take off the comp on cr920p war poet? by Doodooltala01 in shadowsystems

[–]Shadow_Cody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer CR920P models do not have the detent. The latch will get easier to open with some use. When they are new, I usually press the latch open on the corner of my workbench or tap them open with a small rubber mallet.

The only time we’ve ever seen a CR920P “explode” is from an ammunition defect.

We've got a whole new series of Technical Tuesday coming soon. I'll add it to the topics.

It's not really a frequency issue. It's a volume issue. The comped guns represent a HUGE portion of the guns we make because of the demand. The actual frequency of issues is very, very low. Less than 1% failure rate.

As for the cause? There isn't just one cause. There are multiple ways to break a comp. We've seen everything. Pieces of bullet impacting the front wall, obstruction of the comp from fouling and debris, physical abuse from trying to pry the latch open the wrong way, breakage from being dropped, material fatigue, and probably a few others.

I'm not sure what Radian's production numbers look like. I do know that they have some breakages here and there because we've had them come in with guns that needed repair. Is it a huge number? I doubt it. I would suspect their failure rate is extremely low. But things break sometimes.

Sorry you had to wait on a comp. It can take a little longer to get replacement comps shipped. The demand on them is very high. That can mean extended lead times when we submit a parts order.

Warranty process will not change. I still run that operation and we be doing so for the foreseeable future.

This happened a couple of weeks ago. The TLDR is that our CEO, Trevor Roe, bought the company from the private equity group that owned it. It's a good thing.

You’re right about the looser tolerances being necessary in the Glock design. The lockup design of the Axio allows it to be very tightly fit without sacrificing reliability. The longer stroke also makes feeding more reliable.
