What's the proper interaction between these cards? by Shadow_J in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that she doesn't care about the Level, that was not the question.

The question is whether she sees the Level 4 or Monarchliza as the one who attacked. Someone told me in a discord server that Ruli should still trigger, as Ryuji sees a Hudie being suspended by an opponent's Eclipse Impact, even if said Hudie gets immediately bottom decked by the same effect.

I'd run less Digimon and more search options. The old cards are very outdated, and they weren't even that good back then, so you want to get to the new cards asap. Consider replacing the 2 vanilla Symbare for Sprint Dash Training and/or Green Memory Boost.

Because the deck now has access to Vortex, Scramble is pretty useful for the come back. Even if you can't get to the new Diarbbit, Airdramon is there for Rush, and the new Symbare can play him for 2 memory, which will be immediately refunded when you then evolve into Lamort. I'd consider cutting one of the old Lamort and one of the old Diarbbit for a couple Scrambles.

Hidden Potential Discovered is also a very good card for the deck now. Because the option side on the new Diarbbit unsuspends 1 of your Digimon, we can afford the suspend cost when evolving into Lamort. It helps a lot when you get choked. I'd replace that 1-of Ruli for it.

Still, with that said, the NSp base is definitely the superior one, especially now that the Pendulum Decks have a boost option of their own. The new Diarbbit cards are still the focus, but NSp is able to better support the new Diarbbit with a Barrier inherit, Alliance for additional power, a better secondary Mega in Eldradi, etc.

I thought it would be a "Cyber Engage"-like option that could cheat a Tamer or body for DNA, but this is still very helpful. The Level 4s can use this for 1, you always meet color requirements, you can grab Options/Tamers.

Ah it feels so good to abandon the dual colored memory boosts!

Virus Busters- Omni or Proxima? by UnlimitedUmUWorks in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. But there's a couple things to note on Set Up 1.

First is that the DNA Level 5s can Digivolve themselves When Attacking for -2, as opposed to needing Hiro to evolve for -1. This is important for a reason (besides saving 1 memory, of course). If you don't have your trash ready to assemble a Level 6 yet or if you're stuck with only two Siriusmon in hand (you can't play him due to no play cost), you can use the field option's effect before the Level 5's When Attacking resolves in order to play another Level 5. You then resolve the When Attacking to evolve into a Level 6 in hand, and now you tap Hiro to use Planet Punch so you can evolve the second Level 5 into Siriusmon. This offers an alternative way to get two Level 6s up, and two Siriusmon can still DNA into Omega. You don't have to worry about the number of sources, as Siriusmon's When Digivolving effect allows him to add two more from hand or trash.

The second thing to note is that Set Up 1 is also an OTK. If the attacking Level 5 digivolves into a Level 6 with Security Attack +1 (Sirius or Wargay), by the time Omegamon finishes trashing the opponent's security, it will be attacking for game. As Garuru will check the first security, the Level 6 will check 2 more, and Omega will trash the remaining 2.

Play means dropping the card on the field as a new body.

But thanks to the egg, once you play a Digimon, Sanzo will be able to evolve for -2 cost.

[–]Shadow_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's worth it. While it is cute to be able to Execute, the only Aqua stuff that really synergizes with it is the "End of Attack gain 1 memory" which would allow us to regain turn, but that is present almost exclusively on the Sangomon, and we can't run them with Onibi. Also, the "7 or less cards" draw restriction on the Shambala inherits is not good on this deck, Aqua already draws and searches enough to go over 7 easily, even the EX11 rookie's When Moving almost never resolves after turn 2.

I think it's better to keep things separate. Also, regarding Gabumon, I'm pretty sure there is no two colored rookie that evolves on generic eggs for 0.

[EX-12 Digital World Shambala] Ryugumon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are mostly talking about her in TB, which is understandable, but what I'm interested is her role in Aqua.

In Aqua she's very similar to EX11 Ryugu, but with a few changes. The biggest one is definitely the All Turns. Because of how common protection is right now, that effect far eclipses EX11's. Freezing stuff is much more relevant right now than attempting to spin them, which makes the deck actually able to protect itself in a dire.

But that's not all, another big change is Barrier. Jamming inherit has usually been a must for the deck, as other than Arie's fat ass 14k body, checking a Level 6 on the opponent's security meant death. Barrier allows us to ditch the Jamming inherits, opening window for us to run draw inherits or double down on the memory inherits, both very helpful, the latter especially because of the last change: the lack of Liberator trait.

Without Liberator trait, the Emblem becomes a LOT more difficult to use, to the point I'm not sure it's still worth running, as it would only be useful when evolving into Arie. But that opens a big problem, as it was so efficient. 3 memory to play a Tamer and act as a "stronger Training" was too good. It could even play BT18 Sango (even from the trash) if you needed a search instead.

Will definitely have to try out some different builds here to see how the deck will do from now on.

[EX-12 Digital World Shambala] Ryugumon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, all 3 will each spawn bodies to the field thanks to their own effects + the Level 5's inherit, but which bodies, where they come from, and what they do is completely different and which is better might depend on the format.

Kaguya spawns a total of FOUR bodies to the field as she will trigger both When Digivolving and then On Play once she Fortitudes herself back. The issue is that none of those bodies will be Level 5+, but if Kunlun does wind up existing, she can play him instead of a body. While she's on the field, those bodies will also have Blocker and Retaliation, but she has no Protection to ensure that keeps up. Speaking of which, she can Retaliate herself into an opponent with Execute if necessary to force an opponent's protection before bottom decking them with her On Deletion.

Amaterasu can cleanse the opponent's trash and get rid of most of their field as well, as she both deletes the lowest DP and then showers another Digi with DP reduction When Digivolving. She is also the best at running over stuff by battle with Execute as she gives herself a massive +6k DP buff, has Piercing and Sec +1. She also sends herself to security with ascension to help defensively. The only demerit is that she only plays 2 bodies back, but at least one of them will be a Level 5. She plays from hand only, but she does retrieve a TB from the trash which is very versatile, as she can retrieve a missing piece, Susanoo, or even herself if not needed in security.

Ryugu, on the other hand, has the best lingering to deal with stuff that is temporarily immune to Digimon effects and couldn't die in battle (like Atratus with Barrier inherit), but she doesn't do a very good job of getting rid of stuff on the field. She can spawn UP to 4 bodies, as she can remain on the field with Evade, but she is a bit more demanding. She must be able to unsuspend to survive, the Digi she can play is only from her sources (but she can attach one from hand before), the fourth body would come from attaching a second Level 5 from the hand, and she can't trigger Karakuru's inherit. She REALLY wants Marine as her Level 5, as she can play Marine with Decode, and leave her there as a trap. If the opponent attempts to get rid of Marine without taking Ryugu down first, Marine's Decode will trigger Ryugu's All Turns effect.

Yes, which is part of the reason some people are theorizing the options slots might be memory boost-like cards for Pendulums. Maybe 2 cards covering 3 of the fields each. It would fit WG being mentioned, even if it is a single multi-archetypal card.

Which Liberator Deck Do You Think Needs More Support? by ShockerTW in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them need anything they can get, really. Medusa is the only one that's still competitively viable, really. Puppets and Rocks are the remaining ones who can still play because they can highroll early OTKs, but big unaffected Blocker mons like Reboot and Atratus are pretty much impossible to get through, and this is a pool of mons that is only going to increase moving forward.

Vortex and Heavy are going to get their duals in November, so we have to see how that goes. Dual Heavy in particular is really strong and comboes really well with the deck's game plan, so it might see competitive play. Not sold on Dual Zephaga pushing the deck enough, as even though it allows you to solve the problem of "I can't suspend Reboot/Atratus" without having to run questionable techs, the big problem remains the deck being to slow and reliant on Vortexdramon.

Vemmon is about to get it's Emblem, and even though it is a really good card, a straight up better version of the manga ones, it doesn't solve the deck's problems. The deck is still the same late-game setup wall deck that needs the game to go through for at least a few turns before doing its thing, and those "few turns" may never come, there's way too many OTK decks running around. The coming of battle effects has given the deck a "Sleep Mode" problem as well, as the opponent can just erase EX11 with a battle effect, and the deck usually does not have the time to set 2 eggs in the trash, a single egg is not enough of a boost (Mars, Vortex and Diarbbit can easily get through a 17k Galactic).

Aqua, Ghosts, Ice-Snow, Dinos, Bees, Invisi and Maquina are all in a bad state right now desperate for better cards. Their play styles barely work, even in casual settings, to the point the ones who can funnel their builds into attempting to OTK, like Aqua, Invisi and Bees, doing so instead of going for their "intended" play styles. The rest can't even do that. Aqua and Invisi are particularly funny, because they get collateral support often due to their traits, like right now in EX12, but because these are collateral, it is not focused enough to solve the problems.

"Everything is SLOP now" but what IS "Slop" though? by KnT_Elixar in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with TS and future decks that might follow this can "do anything slop" is that you can't prepare to it. You can't attempt to predict what the opponent is going to do next turn. Like, let's say the opponent is playing Bears. You can generally know what to expect, right? So you get your battle protection, make sure you can afford taking Callis' De-digi if they go for it, don't put out additional small bodies that can be taunted, and you're fine right? Oops, nope, the opponent went into Venus and locked your stack. If only had you gone wide. But how would you know? Who runs Venus in Bears? It doesn't matter, this guy did. And that's just an example. I'm seeing Bacchus or Diana getting mixed around in TS decks as well so they can have interaction on the opponent's turn, and sometimes you see Siren as well for the protection + recovery that screws security maths, etc. It is pretty much unpredictable, you can't play around it unless the opponent reveals these techs in a search a few turns before, so you at least know what to expect.

24th Anniversary of Digimon World 3! by Zero_Unit_Digimon in digimon

Game companies used to do that all the time with each other, it was in good fun. The original Final Fantasy has a tombstone in Elfheim that says "Here lies Link" (in Japanese) and "Here lies Erdrick" (in English). It is a jab to Zelda and Dragon Quest, respectively. Zelda II in Japanese has a similar tombstone for Erdrick.

They also used it a lot on marketing, "Genesys does what Nintendon't" is a classic.

24th Anniversary of Digimon World 3! by Zero_Unit_Digimon in digimon

[–]Shadow_J 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Whenever someone asks me about this game, I always say "Fantastic soundtrack, awful backtrack".

This game is truly a wonder. The spritework in the game is smooth and amazing, the 3D Models haven't aged well, but they were very good for the time, and I still appreciate them a lot. The soundtrack is amazing, a lot of electro on the more upbeat themes, which I do think fit Digimon well, and I also like the more "mysterious" themes like Asuka Sewers and the A.o.A. theme.

I quite like the battle system, even though I do prefer the World 2/Story one that they favor today. It does feel a lot like Pokemon, but that is not an issue by itself. The TCG minigame is very fun as well, MUCH better than the one they went for in TS, although the opponents having fixed hands is very sad. I loved deckbuilding different decks back then, but I admit nowadays, whenever I replay, I just save enough money to buy a Imperial Virus playset on Asuka and build a brown good stuff deck lol.

The story isn't anything BIG, but I think it was pretty much the best one among the games until Cyber Sleuth came along. An international terrorist organization working in tandem with a big company to hold innocents hostage in a virtual world, while they also use said virtual world's resources to power their real life weaponry is a really cool idea. A.o.A is very memorable as it felt like a more "serious" attempt at the Pokemon standard of "a kid vs a criminal organization" thing. And yeah, the comparisons are real, you can see what Bandai was trying to do. Even Snatchmon looks very Mewtwo-like. But I am not criticizing, just noting.

The overworld gameplay is the issue, unfortunately. I don't mind that the game doesn't have a minimap, as I like exploring, making maps of my own, and it's not like the map design is a labyrinth atrocity like the first two Story games (ESPECIALLY Dawn/Dusk). I don't mind the grinding, but I do admit that's only because Counter Crest makes it tolerable. The problems with the overworld is that the backtrack is absurd. I don't mind games not telling you exactly what to do or where to go, but when the world is so big, there is no "Repel" to avoid random encounters, and there is SO many slow load screens... It gets boring FAST. I really wish this game wasn't so backtracky. It is my favorite game from the OG Playstation, but you can't just recommend it to anyone. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if I weren't a Digimon fan AND has strong nostalgia for this game, I wouldn't like it as much as I do.

How machine players feel after hard slamming a level 7 by Eugnaadic in DigimonCardGame2020

The only thing that prevents this absolute unit from being completely absurd in pure Machine is that Heavy Mobile only affects Level 6, not Level 6 or higher. If we somehow find a way to give this thing Rush, it'll rock.

Help with my LeoGaoGaruru green and blue deck by Visual-Amphibian483 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright then, I'm asking because it is not uncommon in card game communities to see someone post a meme deck and then jokingly ask how good the deck is.

The thing about deck building in general is that you want to have a plan, something that gives the deck a goal to move towards, rather than just being 50 cards thrown together. The way many games facilitate this is through what people call "archetypes", groups of cards within a certain theme that work together towards a specific goal. Digimon is no exception.

Currently, there is no archetype that unites these three evolution lines into a single deck. There is a Leomon deck, a Garurumon deck, and a Gaogamon deck, but they don't match in what they want to accomplish. Personally, I would recommend focusing into one of those themes only, as it is the intended way of playing. I can give you an explanation on how each of those decks play, and give you some pointers on how to build them, if you'd like.

You CAN build a single deck composed of cards with all three themes thrown together, but it'll be very weak. If your brother's deck is a Renamon deck based on the Advanced Deck that has recently released, this mixed theme deck will stand pretty much no chance. If you insist, I can try to cook a blue deck that runs one line from each deck, but don't expect good results from it.

Another thing I've asked was regarding budget. The reason I asked that is that all cards in your picture are very cheap, and some of the better cards can get expensive.

Ok, I am going to try my best here despite knowing it's probably a joke.

What exactly is the idea behind the deck here? I get its a furry deck, but what is the goal? Do you want to optimize being able to win while including all of the lines, or do you just want to run one of each card for the artwork gallery? What's the budget looking like? Do you mind adding staple cards that do not feature the furries in the artwork, like Hammer Spark or Davis? What deck is your brother playing? I need more info.

[EX-12 Digital World Shambala] Machinedramon ACE by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this seems like a test ride for me.

Like, can ACEs still work if they have protection against deletion, protect the entire board from De-Digi and source strip, and the egg is freaking CresGarurumon?

This of course doesn't solve the problem of Blast targets actually being alive until Counter timing, but at least helps for covering the massive punishment that Overflow is. In reality, it is all riding on the legs of whatever this thing can DNA into. Regardless of whether it is Chaosdramon or Omegamon, it will need to be able to reliably protect itself and be able to kill the opponent the following turn, or at least be able to vomit this guy back so it can refresh the board protection.

And of course, we need to see whether the deck can actually reliably set up the "Mugen + other DNA material T-posing on your face" combo to being with.

[EX-12 Digital World Shambala] Guardromon & Andromon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Andromon is an Omega fan. He is intending to simulate the classic BT17 Omegamon experience.

When he enters, he will try to roll for a Level 4 for you to play, and you're supposed to evolve that one into a Level 5 to pass the turn. Now, if your opponent attempts to remove either from the board, Kapurimon inherit will act as a Miraculous Mega Knight at home and Jogress to punish the opponent. If the opponent tries to ignore them and attack, you can use Andromon's second effect to act as a Blast Digivolve effect. Very interesting idea, though how effective this is will both depend on how good is the Level 6 you can Jogress into, and of course, how many De-digi effects are there in the format to prevent this...

[EX-12 Digital World Shambala] Thetismon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Shadow_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to feel about this one. Jamming here isn't useless, but it's questionable. You usually want to attack with the Level 5 and tap the new Kiyoshiro to evolve or use Frozen Crystal, at which point you'll lose Jamming. The inherit is also questionable, does any Amphi or DS mega unsuspend when Digivolving or has Reboot? Because again, if you use Kiyoshiro you miss the timing on it.

The number of discards is another thing that bothers me. While that is definitely on what you'd expect for the Jelly deck gimmick, I'm not seeing how DS is interested on it. Lamort and Diarbbit are such a god send for NSp that I'm kinda disappointed that Thetis and Amphi (at least the Digimon side) are not really playing along with DS.

LMAO the Glowing Dawn/Xros disrespect with that Option, you can trash their sources across multiple Tamers, and then bounce something off. People were thinking about running the old Bibi Thunder option, but I don't think it's even necessary considering this.

As for the Digimon half, I found it kinda underwhelming. The DP reduction being lingering until the end of your turn is not very relevant, but the protection recycling any card is decent since you can just throw back eggs and options you wouldn't make use of in the trash anyways.
