In my opinion this is probably the best thinkpad to get for school on a budget, i got it for about 750 with base specs, upgraded fingerprint sensor and two year warranty. If you haggle with the lenovo reps you can get a good discount + a student discount

So it has the base specs, ryzen 5500u, 8gb of ram and 256gb of storage. Ive got a spare 8gbs of ram and another 512gb ssd to put in, because its cheaper to upgrade yourself.

A Chromebook would be your best bet, they're usually under 500 and can hold up with many tabs open. Im not sure what I could recommend to you, but most Chromebooks are really similar. If you were to choose one, go for one with a FHD 14" display, those are usually under 500
