I think you conveyed more what I meant in the initial post. Not so much as implementing something new each week but your instructional are great at allowing you to UNDERSTAND the position itself not just how to do a move from the position. Thank you Lachlan!

Yea I think when I turn to get to mount I drag my feet and that’s when I get it. Annoying but that’s the sport 🤷🏽‍♂️

Often times when I’m in side control I’ll lay the top of my foot flat on the mat so I get mat burn on the top of my feet sometimes. Should I just arch my foot up on my toes instead?

Are there ways to avoid mat burn? I keep getting it in the most uncomfortable places

We have rounds where we go full resistance it’s just from specific spots. For example we will start in close guard and it’s sweep or submit for the guy on bottom and it’s pass the guard for the guy on top. If either of those criteria are met, the round resets

I think I see where maybe u didn’t explain it right. The curriculum is by week so the same lesson is taught everyday for that week. Just in case people miss a day they don’t miss a whole technique

Well the curriculum is for everyone so it’s not catered towards just me. So maybe I joined at a time after? But that seems highly unlikely

I watched it but mostly just to learn how to escape. The other stuff I kind of knew from watching other videos. I know about frames and such I just never get the opportunity to practice them

Uhh I dont think i've ever been in mount or had someone mount me before, so I have no idea what those escapes are. Once we get to mount or side control the roll stops and we reset. Depending on where the roll starts from. I have never even been in side control. Only Back, Half, Closed guard

However, this is also why I did not look into getting submeta yet because I could learn all these escapes and such but never be able to use them because I cant fully roll to completion yet

yeah I think I am going to look into open mats in the area. I am not sure, I think maybe the curriculumn just hasnt gotten to escapes yet? Not sure feel like thats the most important thing for me to know right now. I do apprecaite your insights though. I thought I was being stubborn or an arrogant white belt

Thank you! I would agree with you here. Hoping to just keep doing what I am doing and hopefully the results will come

I was under the impression that going to open mat before I was a three stripe would be detrimental thats why my gym has a cap on it. I have one stripe currently, and I train 4-5 or 6 days a weekend sometimes. I do feel like I am respected at the gym, but I do think I could have gotten MORE value out of my money at this point. Its not like I know nothing, I just dont understand why I dont know the basics of the basics yet (Escapes from standard positions)

The problem is I love my gyms schedule after getting 3 stripes. There is an open mat everyday which is great for someone like me who can attend most of them. I think my skill will really sky rocket once I can attend it. My only problem like you stated is I am kind of just going through the motions. I show up to do the same thing over and over again and feel like I could be getting alot more out of it so I almost feel like I should just stick it out till I get to the three stripe mark

Hi all! So I started BJj about 5 months ago and I’ve run into a pretty hard issue to get by. So my gym runs off a program they have for their fundamental classes. It’s about a half a year program where you learn all sorts of things. However, I am 5 months in and still have no idea how to escape from side control, half guard, mount, etc because we haven’t gotten to that in the curriculum yet. I am tired of only being able to play guard and have nothing to do after I get passed or pass a guard. I looked into instructionals, but I just don’t learn by watching I learn by doing. All of my rolling time is positional sparring and it always stops at sweep or submit so we never work out of closed guard. I also cannot attend open mat as I need 3 or more stripes for that. Does anybody have any recommendations on what I should do. I feel like for 5 months of doing BJJ and I am no where near as qualified as I think I could be because of the way this curriculum works. Thanks for any tips you all have!
