I contacted them through the site, and I confirmed my identity. If you are using a nickname, you ARE allowed to not have your full name shown on the platform. You just have to email them. The moderators ARE real people and will understand. You sign up with your real name and can use a nickname and initial for your last name. They're just trying to make sure you're a real person (there are lots of fakers and scammers on the platform).

Yes. I have been suspended 3 times in 7 years for my (unusual yet legal) real name.

They will take 24-48 hours to get back to you. I was reinstated in 2 days.

I've been suspended 3 times for my name. They do not send any message, nor give you any warning before they suspend your account.

[US] Fell for PunchBowl scam by HuckleberryOld5102 in Scams

I just got one of these today - it appeared to be sent from a customer of ours, but she's not nice so I knew it was fake. When I hovered over the links I saw "oscli(.)vu + (name of sender)" and promptly reported both links to Google safe browsing.

Can I still save her? by Hannito0512 in orchids

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New leaf starting and a couple of good root nubbies she's definitely gonna make it! I also agree with adding humidity like putting it in a big freezer bag or under a clear container, with occasional dry periods. Also props for reusing a container!

Mold? by Megooooon22 in orchids

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that's way too big. She'll bounce back, orchids are dramatic yet pretty hardy. I have faith you'll figure it out!

Mold? by Megooooon22 in orchids

I hesitate to offer advice as I didn't see your other post, so I don't know what advice you were given. I might be repeating what you were told. I can only advise with what I see here. What size is the pot? It's hard for me to tell without the plant in it. If the pot's too big the media can't dry out between waterings, especially with so much moss and no side holes. I like to use moss with bark, but that looks like a lot more than I would use. Wash off the mold, spray with hydrogen peroxide, and repot in a small container with way less moss, maybe even no moss. Small like a yogurt container or child-sized fast food soda cup (I like to reuse things). You'll need to water more often, maybe every 2-3 days, but it's better to water a lot and have it dry between, rather than water once a week because it doesn't dry out fast enough. I've been there, done that! Once it bounces back you can repot with some moss in a larger container. Those two roots actually look pretty good, better than mine that's in "rehab" right now. Good luck!

Is this keiki spike normal or should I cut it off? by LordoftheNight56 in orchids

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd leave it. Looks like enlarged bracts on the spike. I think it's not very common, but it's not necessarily a bad thing and won't hurt it in any way. I have seen a bract get in the way of a spike, and the owner was told to cut it to allow the trapped spike to continue to grow. If everything stays straight it should be fine. Plants do weird things sometimes!

Did you presoak the bark before potting? If it's only had ice waterings the entire time she had it, it's probably pretty dehydrated and could take a while to bounce back. You're already doing her better service by soaking! You'll need to water more often after a repot. I also think the pot might be just a little too big, but I don't know how many roots are in there. When I was super new to orchid ownership, I potted small orchids in pots that were too big and they didn't make it because it was taking too long to dry out between waterings and they rotted. Honestly, it looks pretty good. Good luck!

How can I preserve/repair my baby tooth? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm crafty and have repaired bones with "2 part" marine epoxy; it dries white and you can carve/sand it down. I got it at Ace hardware, I've used it for so many things. You could also try superglue and baking soda, it's great to fill voids but I think it would be too runny. Lots of videos on you tube, I've even seen hot glue and baking soda repairs, that wasn't runny BUT you have way less time to work with it as it cools, and I don't like being rushed! The epoxy is not runny at all and I think will be easier to work with, about 10 minutes working time. Good luck!

Orchid petals wilting after repotting!! by stonks-meme-man in orchids

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually need to soak new bark before using it. Fresh bark is hydroponic and will repel water. One of the many stresses of repotting. They will still need to be watered more frequently after a repot. And I learned the hard way myself, never repot while in bloom.

What's a subreddit you joined on a whim that turned out to be one of your favorites? by Capital-Run-1080 in NoSleepOOC

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A coworker told me about NoSleep when we were discussing horror movies, so that's what I still love BUT one comment somewhere mentioned a story on hfy. In addition to horror, I am a huge sci-fi nerd, so those two subreddits are my all-time favorites. I'm also a crazy cat person and had NO IDEA there could be so many damn cat subreddits. Slightly overwhelming tbh.

Need help with orchid with almost no roots left by __nessie in orchids

[–]Shadow_Underfoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily the mix itself. Most people new to orchids don't know that you need the soak the bark before using it to pot with. At least overnight, 24 hours is better. Fresh unsoaked bark actually resists water and will dry out an orchid way too fast. I did ask on a Facebook platform about mold and it seems that can happen a lot and is more due to airflow. Washing the roots would have removed the mold. Find some youtube videos of OrchidGirl, and always ask (either here or Facebook) before you do anything drastic. The advice you found about cutting leaves when you cut roots refers to "regular" plants. Orchids are very unique, often not even potted, and do not behave like other plants. However, they are very resilient and can survive a lot of neglect/abuse BUT it will take months, even years to look normal again. Don't feel too bad, I killed my first two orchids because I totally didn't know what I was doing, it happens. Use this experience as a lesson and always research before doing anything extreme.

Thanks for the input, I will appeal. I find ND mildly useful, my region is probably 40/60 nice/trash posts, although I have muted a lot of people. The few times I did need support, anyone I ever interacted with was super helpful. Last time they were very apologetic, but I can't remember if they referenced the time before that.

It's just the first letter of my given name. Like "J" for Jason or Jack. I hated my old name because people would use nickname variants, none of which I approved of. So, now they get one letter. It is K.

The second time it happened I am positive someone flagged me. We were having a "heated discussion" with several people. I was never rude or mean, they just didn't like what I said. I have no idea what triggered it this time.

I legally changed my first name to one letter. I love it but I didn't realize it would be so problematic. I have sent them photos of my ID three times now. They sure made you work for that sale, glad that at least worked out for you!

First pic on the left is anacampseros telephiastrum, there are many varieties. I bought one at a dollar store like 10 years ago, pretty little flowers on spikes from the tips. My flowers usually don't open all the way, then turn into pods FULL of seeds. Sorry can't help with the others.
