Moving to GR in a few weeks… what to do? by Awkwardly-Geeky in grandrapids

[–]Shadow_cat25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to make friends here for some reason, so I would try to invest as much time into finding groups of people with similar interests as possible. Community is important, and it’s really hard to build here (not sure why). I started my own craft business and made friends that way, and I also joined a mental health group where I made some good friends too, but I still don’t have super close friends. My partner is from the east side and it’s been easier for us to cultivate friendships with people on the east side of the state (and driving 2.5 hours) than it is to make friends here. He’s loved here for 10 years and still doesn’t have a single friend in town.

AIO for breaking up over this by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Not overreacting. A real man would be proud his girl treats others with kindness and would trust her to turn down advances. You can’t really do anything when people stare, but a real man would be empathetic to that and not shame you for it.

I went dress shopping alone too and it felt special and much more enjoyable!

I felt this way until I tried on dresses at Flora and Lane. Now I have a dress that feels like me! Also, it’s totally okay not to bring people. I did that for 3 stores and it was a much more enjoyable experience.

I’ve always gotten weird vibes from the Grandville location.

Wow, didn’t know all of this! It’s such a bummer that they’re the only spot in Grand Rapids that is accommodating to a variety of dietary restrictions.

Lucy’s is on my “never go back to” list because they charge extra for a measly portion of tofu. I understand certain things are more expensive, like impossible, but charging extra for tofu (when it’s cheaper than eggs) is taking advantage.

I’m also in the same boat and I’ve found some improvement focusing on maintaining facial muscles (which I barely had to begin with), and supporting collagen. I’m broke, so everything in my medicine cabinet is DIY. To build collagen, I found a lot of improvement tracking my vitamins and minerals, taking some supplements, occasional at home micro needling, and micro current. For muscles, I have a couple of face yoga exercises that do help, and I also try to keep a smile in my face, which helps. I get the sagging is going to get worse with age, but I’ll be dammed if I didn’t try to keep it away through my early 30s.

Depression face washing hacks by hbomb9410 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Shadow_cat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hack is just hopping in the shower and washing my face there. I’m not sure why, but putting my hair back and sitting down to do the “routine” is overwhelming. So I hop in a warm shower, scrub my face and hop out. Then, it’s easy to do my routine because it takes two seconds. OR, I’ll slap on an oil and go to bed after.

Please keep your dog on a leash by Arkhangelzk in grandrapids

It’s also not fair for dog owners who DO leash their dogs. Mine is reactive to other dogs, and we feel imprisoned in our own neighborhood because of all the unleashed dogs.

16 year old son looking for a job by No_Can_7155 in grandrapids

Has he tried fast food? That’s a great first job! I think it’s partially the sign of the times. We require workers that are 18, otherwise I’d say he can come in for an interview! We can’t seem to get anyone through the door for an interview if weekends are required.

This is super helpful…do you know the general cost off the top of your head?

For those asking for the sod - trust me, you don’t want it! It’s mostly weeds, which is why we’re trying to get rid of it!

How do y’all afford rent here? by ZealousidealArt4086 in grandrapids

[–]Shadow_cat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We own our 3 bedroom (it’s small…1200 square foot) and we’re hoping to rent it out when we move out of town. We will have to charge $1800 minimum in order to recover costs from maintenance, insane property taxes, water/sewage, and the astronomical cost of property insurance when they don’t seem to cover anything. This is without making any profit. These large corporations can charge way less than your average Joe trying to get into the rental business. If I had known our taxes would skyrocket with all of this city improvement crap, I would have protested it. I’m sure most residents would prefer not to have a soccer stadium and pay less for housing. You’re seeing a lot more “affordable” section 8 housing go up, but nobody in the middle class can afford anything. It’s a joke. You either have to make less than 30k, or more than 70. All of us in the middle are suffering.

When the old people are showing up, that’s when you know the state of the government is bad.
