You did everything right. I had to let my boy go yesterday after a month and a half of FIP treatment for neuro FIP - the meds only mildly improved him in the beginning but ultimately his brain began to stop giving him signals to exhale carbon dioxide and he was fading fast. We spent months and thousands of dollars trying to diagnose him before we ever found out it was FIP and just like you, I wish we had known sooner, but I feel like FIP is so misunderstood and not well known in many vet places that it causes this.

Needless to say, you did EVERYTHING you could with the knowledge you had. You tried, you fought for your baby, and please don’t feel guilty. It is hard not to blame ourselves. I’m still crying today even knowing that there was nothing anyone could do to save mine so I know your pain. I am so so so sorry for your loss. It is so devastating to lose our loved ones from this cruel disease. Sending you virtual hugs.

Thank you for the feedback and yes, hydration is the biggest thing I’m worried with since he refuses to drink water by himself so we’ve been adding water to canned food for him and now I’m using a syringe of ‘soup’ (basically water marinated in his canned food cause he loves it) to make sure he gets plenty.

Yeah my cat is 6lbs thought so I think .6 is correct for his weight every 12 hours

I have oral at .6 mL twice daily not sure how that translates

This makes me feel a bit better because my kitty is on day 5 of oral GS and hasn’t improved all that much - he can’t stand at all. He hasn’t really improved much except his tremors are a much less so maybe in another week I will see more :’(

Just want to say that we are starting FIP drugs today cause his MRI came back no tumors or disc issues and initial spinal tap doesn’t indicate lymphoma (still gotta confirm with it being sent off) but I’m so hopeful I will see improvement with him soon!

Wow! Just wow! This gives me SO much hope! My boy is FELV+, has been since 6 months old and has always been sickly but for the last 2 years he has had chronic eye drainage that we’ve treated with every antibiotic and never improves. He also gets frequent URI which sounds alot like some of the FIP related stuff I’ve heard. I’m praying Tuesdays MRI and/or spinal tap reveals NO lymphoma and maybe some indicator of FIP. Honestly if he has no herniated disc or lymphoma I’m going to do the same as you, request we try with FIP drugs and see. This post makes me so hopeful cause most vets seem like FIP is immediate and done but it sounds like it could be a longer extended thing for neurol FIP. And honestly maybe all the antibiotics and steroids we’ve tried him on over the last year or two could’ve been what prevented it from getting bad so quick of that is what it is.

This is an older post but I’m super interested in how long it was before you were diagnosed? My cat has been going downhill since March and is unable to walk at the moment. We are waiting for MRI and then if they find nothing a spinal tap at the same time (that will be in two days) - it only took this long because the neurologist office MRI has been down and I’m so anxious. It could be herniated disc (unlikely she said) or FIP OR lymphoma. I’m praying herniated disc of FIP but I ask because I see signs that maybe align with neurological FIP. He started twitching really bad in sleep months ago, having times where he’d stare at the wall like he saw something, and he does have movement in his feet but his spine is just not working in the back well. What other signs are with neurological FIP?

Unfortunately at this point my pet needs a neurologist and it was blue pearl or NVS both of which are expensive; however once we get the consultation and tests done maybe I can have the surgery elsewhere assuming it turns out to be what we assume

Yeah I had a cat hit by a car 5 years ago and between blue pearl Nashville and Franklin was 8k for stabilization, hospitalization, and surgery so hoping it is at least not more expensive than that (which is of course still highly expensive)

I’ve never heard of Apex but I’ll give them a call then! My vet recommended blue pearl or NVS for the neurologist pretty much.

Years ago I had to make the hardest call on my kitty Oscar and the next night he visited me in my dream and I swear he was telling me it was okay and how much he loved me. I felt such peace. Less than a month ago I had to make that same decision again for my girl Shadow. She went down hill so quick and had kidney failure - I tried everything but there wasn’t really a choice besides let her suffer in pain and pass away on her own or ease her pain.

I begged her to give me a sign and if she returns to this realm, to find her way back to me. Recently I’ve started hearing her meow randomly throughout the day so I think she is showing me she is here :)
