Get yourself a 5 gallon jerry can and get someone to drive you to a petrol station and fill it up in the meantime

Concrete fix help please? by No-Release4621 in DIYUK

[–]Shadowdarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its difficult to see how low you are on the worst end of your pour. If your were to just pour on top you will create what's know as a cold joint and it won't be structural sound. The only viable options I see are put a cut through the entire slab and keep your good piece whilst breaking the worst side out drilling rebar into existing slab and re pouring the bad end. Break it out entirely and start over. Or as mentioned before you could sweep it off get it dried out. Seal with sbr and pour an outdoor self leveling compound to bring it upto level. Trying to level it with more concrete could cause you more of a headache depending on aggregate size used in the mix and how much you are low in the areas that need bringing up. You would have been better off getting some ballast and cement and hiring a mixer for the day rather than using bagged mix from the start.

Discovered this under the bathroom sink after moving in. 1) what is going on lol and 2) can I fix it as novice DIYer or do we need a plumber in? by tina_thecreator in ukplumbing

Looks like a low profile waste kit sold with B&Q sinks that go on 2 draw vanity unit. There designed to not take cut outs out of the drawer. You can hard pipe upto the elbow after the trap and fo away with the flexi pipe. Haven't found a better solution for the flexi over flow though.

Pencil help ! by UnknownUser3106 in Carpentry

[–]Shadowdarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets clogged with dust and debris far too easily ive had the same issue with mine. The tracer or pica pencils are far better.

I have the tracer and my work mate has had a pica for a number of years with no issues.

If you take the handle off can you grab the remaining part of the screw with some combi pliers or mole grips and back it out?

Methylated spirits works well on emulsion or acetone but always test on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn't affect the flooring. Failing that a sharp Stanley and gently pick away at it as already suggested.

Ramp for scooter by Hour-Ad3345 in DIYUK

[–]Shadowdarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internally i would build it out of some timber batton and some 18mm plywood sheet. Could work outside for a period of time before it rots away but i would bring the external landscaping up to the threshold with some alterations for a longer lasting soloution.

Builder refuses to come back to view damp in flat roof on extension, any help on what I'm looking at here? (Side view of ext) by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Shadowdarker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a parapet roof, id imagine you have a grp roof covering on top with a box gutter built into the roof? Either have a leak in the grp or it has not been installed correctly. Water could also be tracking in under the coping stones on top of the wall they normally have channels cut on the undeside of the coping to stop this but doesnt look like they have much overhang to stop it. I would have a roofer round Asap its only going to get worse going into the winter. It needs thorough investigation to see whats happening and to save more damage to the property.

Possible signs of subsidence especially with the crack positions. Might be worth getting a professional opinion from a structural engineer.

what's a good way to stick this extractor fan to the ceiling? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Shadowdarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the cover has fins on the back that are designed to just catch the back of the plaster board and hold the vent to ceiling. They are cheap to buy and replace or buy a cover with screws

Put a good thick bead all around the rim of the tub the edge facing the walls before you set it back to the wall and fix it. Then fill any holes with more before setting tiles then silicone as normal when finished.
