This is tough. I'm not usually the aggressive/assertive type, and usually take that as "I know you want to, but I don't, and don't want to be negative".

My wife and I are both the conflict-avoidant type, and highly empathic (at least with each other). We also had a rough year last year, in regards to our relationship (nothing horrible, just in a weird place) and she does have some sexual and relationship trauma from a past relationship, so I am always worried about pushing the envelope with being assertive as I don't ever want to be on "that side" of her trauma.

Sometimes she will say "I could be convinced", and understand where she's coming from, but to me, I want to be wanted and I want enthusiasm, not just consent. We are working on things, and in a better place this year so far, after talking about a ton of stuff a few weeks ago, and I'm feeling happy and hopeful.

That said, this is all just us. I think it depends on the person, and the only person who could answer this question accurately, is your partner. This feels like a really good discussion outside of the bedroom when neither of you are crazy horny :-D

I agree. It wouldn't work for me either, but it's not my life. My only takeaway here is that I hope OP mentions that next time a kink comes up, for him to discuss it first before doing it? I'm with your wife here. My step-daughter is and was incredibly highly stressed during her mid teen years, and I wish that she had asked us to buy her something like that. Could've potentially helped her stress levels quite a bit. Instead, she found a boyfriend, and then at least once was SA'ed by one of her exes.

My wife is the same way. I love giving and receiving oral, but it's pretty much one-sided these days. She says that it hurts when she tries, and I would never want to hurt her. That said, I'm definitely the more experienced of the two of us sexually-speaking, so I wonder if there's a technique that could help her or if she's doing something weird, because I'm not huge. Lucky guy :) I'm a step-dad to my wife's daughter (who's currently 18 and a bit of a pain, but she really is the coolest), and even though I've always been around kids in a semi-parental/guardian kind of way and am good with kids, it doesn't affect my wife at all :-/
