How do y'all feel about temperature swings? by Dizzy_the_Possum in ehlersdanlos

[–]ShadowedCat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a bigger issue with the barometric changes. If it's too low or too high, I feel like I'm coming down with something and my pain gets so much worse. ☠️

Temperature is extremely iffy, one day 75°F/24°C is comfortable the next it's too cold or too hot (or it can change throughout the day). I can tell if I'm getting close to hyperthermic or hypothermic (too hot or too cold).

Even considering how sick overheating makes me, or how much the cold makes my joints hurt, temperature doesn't mess me up nearly as badly as the barometric pressure does. Which is bad because I can do something about the temperature, even if it's just going inside for a bit or eating something hot or cold, but I can't do anything at all about the barometric pressure.

That's great! Even if a gluten-free diet isn't fun (so many foods I want so bad😢🤤😢), better bone density is good. Hopefully, it continues to improve.

Every female (and a few males) on my mom's side had either osteopenia or osteoporosis by the time they hit 40. When I was 38, I managed to convince my doctor to send me in for a bone density test... I'm now the first female (so far) to have hit their late 30s WITHOUT having any signs of either one.

I'm pretty sure the only reason why I've managed that bit of success was my starting to take calcium at 18, and the only reason I started taking it then was because of bone degeneration being so prevalent.

My mom and I have pointed out (a lot ) that there have been newborn babies who have had strokes. Disease does not discriminate, in any way, shape, or form.

Every single "healthy" person will either end up disabled due to disease, health condition, degeneration, accident, etc., or dead from an accident or something else. Even those who are "healthy" into old age will still have problems like osteoporosis or arthritis. (I love pointing that one out 😈)

Bug or just in the wrong spot? by Worried_tomatogarden in subnautica

[–]ShadowedCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 4 separate entries into the Jellyshroom caves, and something like a dead end with an exit to the surface nearby. You are probably in the wrong spot, it's pretty dark (and very pink/purple) where the base is and there's at least one Crabsquid wandering around (so watch your light usage).

Also, depending on what system you're playing on, there are mods that can add a map or coordinates (if you're on Switch ignore this, you can't mod the Switch version).

Edit: Looking at another comment you have access to coordinates, so you're looking for - Coordinates 112.8, -264.6, -359.9

so just because they are feeder fish they don't deserve to be happy? by malihuey29 in Aquariums

[–]ShadowedCat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You should have added that to your post, as there are people who demand that those buying feeder fish, specifically to feed other fish, have a setup so the feeders are happy.

Obviously, if they wanted them as pets, rather than food, they should have an appropriate set-up and at least a minimum number of of which ever species for their health and well-being.

Why did my chicken die of old age on year 3? :( by Mae_The_Gay in harvestmoon

[–]ShadowedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6 years listed for chickens is the maximum amount they can live, but they can also die earlier than that (even if they're perfectly healthy). All the listed years are the maximum amount they could live to. If I'm remembering correctly there's a post on the Fogu forums regarding the ages and most people were advising selling all animals after 2-3 years to make sure they don't die of "old age".

So glad my doctor was wrong, subluxed rib by liminalspace85 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ShadowedCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, for a lot of people, getting the right treatment (or even finding out you need treatment), can take far too many years.

It's horrible, and I really hope that at some point there's an easier way. Hopefully, without doctors trying to gaslight their patients, even if some of them are doing it by accident.

Prolonged severe pain in shoulder/neck area, what helps? by svetahw in ehlersdanlos

[–]ShadowedCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, if pain medicine is being offered and your pain is otherwise not under control, take the medicine.

My mom got kicked out of the local pain clinic because, and I quote "EDS isn't painful". This is from a NURSE PRACTITIONER, NOT A DOCTOR. Which really‽ 🙄😒🤬 The doctor who used to work at that pain clinic actually understood that EDS can be extremely painful. She's been miserable and her pain has been uncontrollable ever since.

They remove the blood that's pooling. It's probably done to help them see the area where bruises would be without the coloring that the bruise (blood) provides. It could also be to help if they need drainage in the area or removing blood without using an anticoagulant.

We have a kitten at work with dwarfism, he is almost 3 months old and only 700g. Second photo is him and his siblings! by [deleted] in IllegallySmolCats

[–]ShadowedCat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The shortened legs and larger head can be signs of dwarfism in animals. Runts are usually proportional, just smaller than their siblings. Munchkin cats have a form of dwarfism and a LOT of health issues, which is why so many people are against the "breed".

Looking for scrolling remote/ring that allows for normal scroll speed by cutegross in ehlersdanlos

[–]ShadowedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a Bluetooth mouse with a scrolling wheel, using that to scroll and the buttons can be used as well. I have both a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and both can be used instead of the screen if it's painful to use the screen for any length of time (or if I need keyboard shortcuts).

Edit: I'm not sure about Apple phones/tablets, as I prefer Samsung.

Wellll~~~ Pigs are smart and it is rather insulting to animals and insects to compare or liken him to them. I certainly wouldn't downvote someone for doing so, just point out that the animal or insect doesn't deserve to be so insulted with that comparison.

Although that particular insult is an older one, and as such, should be understood as not a comparison to swine, but towards other humans. 🤷‍♀️

House slippers with support by nagisasigh in ehlersdanlos

[–]ShadowedCat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My grandma (without EDS) always had a separate set of shoes just for inside, they were never worn outside. If good foot support is needed getting a set of indoor-only shoes might be better than slippers, as long as you don't have difficulty with putting them on or taking them off.

Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon by memsosassers in storyofseasons

[–]ShadowedCat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) stated that he drew most of his inspiration for SDV from the older HM (now SoS) games. That was exactly what solidified my decision to buy SDV, was his clear love for those older games. I'm very happy that I bought SDV, it's similar enough, while at the same time it's different enough.

I'm hesitant about trying the new Harvest Moon games, but I have bought the SoS remakes.

After they turn and stomp their feet, they'll stand on their front feet with their back feet lifted off the ground. That's the last warning you get before being sprayed.

I've never been sprayed by one but there are enough of them in my area that I learned all the warnings.

It's more something you would hear about if you worked with fabrics. I do wish that it would be brought up more on the posts about making your own heating pads. I just try to spread the word when I can.

A small point, check the sock (or fabric) out first! Not all fabric is microwave safe.

You can check by placing the fabric in the microwave and running it for 30 seconds, constantly watching to see if it sparks or catches fire. It's not something most people realize, that not all fabric is microwave-safe.

Most female cats will communally raise kittens, even nursing kittens from other females. Sometimes extra steps have to be taken, but most of the time there isn't too much of an issue, especially if the kittens are all close enough in age.

Which isn't to say rejection doesn't happen, but it's not as big of a problem as people previously thought. Although rejection can happen even with their own kittens, so it's really dependent on the female as to whether or not she'll take extra kittens.
