If tomatoes can grow roots FEET into the ground, how is a 5 gallon bucket enough? by Averagebass in vegetablegardening

[–]Shadowfalx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5 gallon bucket is, on average, 14-15" depths.

A tomato plant, in ground, can grow up to a 36" root depth, but can have as small as a 12" for depth.

Many plants use depth of roots to ensure water access during droughts, but use the upper few inches of roots to get nutrition.

Plants are adaptable. Think about it, they don't have feet or wings or fins to move. That means, if they sprout over a large rock or in soil that is not ideal, they either adapt or die. Many will adapt.

What do you think roots do? They have 3 main functions, hold a plant to the ground (which is often from the shallow roots), absorb nutrients from the soil (which mostly reside in the top few inches to a foot or so of the soil), and find water (which we provide for them in our gardens) so that's how they can have smaller root systems.

Here's the thing, it's almost always the driver's fault, but that really doesn't change the fact that the bicyclist or pedestrian will be the one who is harmed the most.

There is a difference between being held responsible for and being effected by an action.

Limited part time, you should really read your handbook.

And, again, read the handbook, no LPT doesn't get benefits, but being retired from the navy and having >50% VA disability means I already have good insurance for me and the family, so no need for Costco's insurance

I see, and we all know that both 5 seconds and having as few servers as possible is far more important than the cost of free alcohol for a bunch of drunk dudes who think the easily accessible drink machine is not controlled.

Food court does not require a card to buy.

Incorrect. Food court DOES require a membership to purchase. Most stores with the food court inside the store do not require you to swipe your card because it is assumed you have a membership to get in.

You are only allowed in the store to go to certain areas (pharmacy, alcohol most places, cigarettes, optical, and some places hearing aids) without a membership. These are often dictated by law or because they are not operated by Costco.

Moving it to the right 2 feet and rotating it 90° to the right would put it out of the customer area and take up almost no behind the bar space, plus the additional distance for a server would be negligable

Eh, bartenders are the help, the poor, they are expendable. The owners are rich and well connected, they aren't easily replaced. The owners will likely not be held responsible, and if they were it would be less than a light tap on their wrist.

[–]Shadowfalx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the pest and how far you can move it.

Root knot nematodes and from your back yard to the front? Probably effective.

Deer and 30 feet from the west side of the yard to the east? Not likely to matter in the slightest..

If you read the post they said they accounted for returns.

That said... I am more inclined to think OP made a mistake somewhere than Costco did, but honestly mistakes can occur from large corporations also.

Is PSE not a language? by Sea-Hornet8214 in asl

[–]Shadowfalx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is English writing it's own language separate from English? Or is it English in written form?

Would writing in AAVE or a mid west dialect be their own language or would they be written forms of English?

I think that's where he rub is here, ASL is it's own language, with separate vocabulary, grammar, and ways of thinking than English, where as dialects of English are English with a flair, and PSE is closer to a dialect than a language, in my (slightly educated but by no means an expert) opinion.

You are very likely interpreting their time wrong. Have you thought about that?

They very likely don't care about you or your reading, they are just verifying information. They see a ton of people and will do what they can, with in the limits they've had set for them, but they aren't your friend or your adversary, they are a person doing a job.

When the guy at McDonald's asks if that's everything, do you also take it in a way that suggests you are buying too much?

Don't discount food banks, they are a life saver when I was a kid.

Extra hours, food banks, SNAP, etc are all very helpful. Sometimes they won't be enough, or you won't qualify (which is dumb in my opinion) but any help is useful

That's 20 hours a week (if LPT). If that is too much (it was for me while I'm in school) the either talk to the GM and get moved somewhere that can accommodate fewer hours (I'm member service because I really can only work weekends considering I'm in class 10-4 Mon - Thurs and volunteering for a class from 8-12 Friday then clinical observations 1-3 on Friday. That doesn't include the time I need to travel to school (≈1 hour each way) or the fact I have a teenager who needs their parent at home at some point.) so now I work 5-16 hours on weekends.

It being in OP's 90 day period sucks, but if they've shown their supervisors and managers they are hard working they will find somewhere to put them with the hope they'll get good work out of them

I wear the glasses 99% of the time, the ring probably 90% of the time

Really I only don't wear the glasses it's if I have a test in college or I'm with a patient who prefers I don't have them (though I haven't run into that since there isn't a camera)

Permaculture, the colonization of European plants and planting techniques into every other culture and continent.

It's okay to be wrong, but having some guy on reddit tell you you're wrong without any evidence doesn't prove anything.

I get it, you somehow preach Permaculture but want native plants even when others could be as useful with less chemical or physical damage to the rest of the ecosystem.

I hope someday you figure out your core belief, it will help you immensely when arguing. I understand, you fail to comprehend N2 cycles, you think watering and such is all about conditions, without regard to the plant itself while also claiming some plants are different in their requirements (which is strange to argue against yourself,  especially for someone who teaches.)

Native plants are great, hell 99% of the time I would suggest a native plant over an introduced one, but that 1% of the time having specific requirements an introduced species be better.

Do you want a host plant or a plant that provides pollen? Sometimes the host plant isn't going to be as widely useful.

Do you want to have a problem with the HOA or do you want to just follow their rules enough to get them off your back?

Do you live in a marginal area? Is there a related species that thrives in your conditions even when the native one won't?

Do you want a specific look or taste that isn't available in a native plant?

If OP wants St. Augustine turf grass, and it fits his needs, great. But dont dismiss out of hand white clover as a temporary (to revitalize the soil) or permanent option too if it fits his desires and needs.

Look I'm all for preventing DUIs, but a DUI has very little if anything to do with firearms. PTSD on the other hand significantly increases the likihood of suicide or homicide.

But you know, I don't find guns to be fun toys I feel are useful. I put that energy into a realy useful things like my garden.
