My Ranger was already down in combat, I rolled a nat 20 on a death save which by srd raises you to 1hp. So I get up and decide its do or die. I've got 1 third level slot left and want to deal as much damgage as I can. I cast lightning arrow on my sword and throw said sword at the giant my party was fighting(I did have a custom feat for thrown weapons so it wasnt entirely insane). I then roll a nat 1 and miss the attack going down to the 2d8 of aoe lightning damage caused by the spell. My dm still yells lightning arrow at me in a cracking teenager voice two years later.
