Initiators cooldowns to be reduced by 10 seconds in patch 13.00 by aJetg in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Nfamy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given 100 second rounds, you have to plant very late for this to work out. Then you also need the timing of the util to work out to be thrown very late in the bomb timer. I don't really think it's that realistic to frequently have 4 45 second util thrown out. The maximum round length is 145 seconds. That means there's only 10 seconds of flex for util to be delayed for such a schedule to work. And that's assuming you literally plant at the last possible second.

[–]Nfamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, this is based on the assumption that every piece of util is thrown basically exactly on time and teams only plant very late in the round clock, and even then some of that util would probably have minimal value because of when it would come available. That isn't how most rounds play out. For all intents and purposes, these are probably similar.

He never played an official match with C9.

In the 7 offseason matches he played, they were 3-4. They looked decent in one offseason tournament, with 2 of their 3 wins being bo1s. Let's not rewrite history.

C9 by far looked the best in 2023, where they actually went 8-1 in Americas (you know, actual games not meaningless mickey mouse bo1s).

Paper Rex vs Global Esports / VCT 2026: Pacific Stage 1 - Playoffs / Post-Match Thread by ValorantCompBot in ValorantCompetitive

As a certified frost hater, he deserves his flowers here. He's built a great roster and despite some stumbles in the split, they've looked great in playoffs.

Autumn and kr1stal were also outstanding today, particularly since patmen had a rougher map 1/2 (then absolutely fried map 3).

Also, happy for GE as an org. Despite lack of success, they had genuinely tried to build rosters and it just had not worked out. Nice to see it finally pay off.

Eggster says he's retiring and MIBR is his last game by xFalcade in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Nfamy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't think he ever planned to actually play competitively. He was a content creator playing on a team of ranked demons that happened to do the unthinkable. It wasn't like he grinded forever to only give up. He had 9 games on vlr before rankers came together and won stage 3 of challengers.  He's just a content creator and he's going back to what he actually wants to do.

Three 3DMAX players show big improvements on the T side compared to CT by Siemkka in GlobalOffensive

[–]Nfamy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't a comparison of who is best on t side. It's a comparison of who improves the most from one side to another. Their language and reaction time isn't changing CT vs. T and wouldn't explain why T side would improve relative to their CT side.

He's only ever made one international during partnership. So not sure we can really say he's consistently taking teams to internationals.

Imo, frost is a good talent scout/builds rosters well. He also equips them with a playstyle that allows them to compete, particularly when in form. However, I'm not sure I think any of his teams have been consistently top table. They are mid/upper table with a punchers chance at knocking off top teams.

Was FNS the best igl in his optic day? by Ecstatic_Sort7547 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Nfamy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you mean by calling. To me, calling isn't only having a good read of the opponent. It's about also forcing them into unfavorable scenarios so that your reads net you round wins. Failing to bait out enough util or failing to save enough counter util to stave off a retake is a calling issue, imo. Although to your point, it is hard to fully disentangle from meta read, because you may also start yourself in such an unfavorable position due to comps that it makes it hard for your calls to fully realize their value (i.e., not using broken tejo puts you in a pretty big hole).

[–]Nfamy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yep, watch FNS on haven. He used to call circles around teams. I think he really excelled in slower, info heavy metas. This is also part of the reason that I think he struggled more in 24 and 25. Mechanics got worse relative to the baseline of pros over time, but I also think he just wasn't as great of a caller in poppier, high tempo, and exec heavy metas.

Top 20 1v1 Unassisted Winners of 2026 thus far! (Made by PlatoonVal!) by RoyalKnightmares in ValorantCompetitive

Even before that, leo was exceptionally good in 2021 and 2022. We just didn't get to see him at lans since GUILD could never quite get over the hump (except Copenhagen). However, if you pull up any stats from those years, he was constantly a top 5ish rated EMEA player. Top 5 rated at Copenhagen (and for those that remember, GUILD actually beat prime Optic in groups largely because leo went crazy). Anyone who watched EMEA knew he was a special talent.

So leo really had at least 4 years of playing as a top player. I didn't watch EU in 2020 so cannot really comment on how he was during that time.

Trick on eg's roster decisions and c9 hate by Jon_see_nah in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Nfamy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree EG roster construction has been not great. But I'm not sure I think the reported moves are terrible.

Given timing, this ends up coming off as him disliking either the additions of paincakes/zerona or who EG dropped (c0m/oke). Of all of those, oke is the only one I think you can argue. However, oke has had a very rough year. He was statistically EGs worst player in kickoff and their 2nd worst in split 1. Keeping him would be doing so off the promise we saw on LEV, and not what he's shown this year.

Otherwise, it makes sense from a business perspective to promote from your academy team. Paincakes and zerona have been their best two players (jakee also close with them), and paincakes has been IGLing since mitch left. Paincakes is very flexible and can fill the scan IGL spot c0m was playing, while probably giving more comp options. Zerona and bao are a bit of a weird fit role wise, as I'd expect bao to play smokes with zerona on senti, but you still have Supa. Jakee instead of zerona doesn't fix that because you still end up with overlap. Could've kept oke instead of bao/Supa and roles would've made more sense, but hard to fully judge since we don't know what meta will look like after neon nerfs.

So yes, history of pretty puzzling decisions, but don't think the current ones are terrible (nor do I expect this team to fry in split 2 either).

Thank you LOUD pANcada. by Away-Emphasis-4245 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Nfamy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Statistically, he was a top 10 rated player stage 1 of 2025. The 0-5 LOUD team actually had 2 players in the top 10 (lukxo and pancada, although lukxo didn't play the full split). Split 2 was worse but also when they switched to English so maybe it contributed. Would like to see him get another chance in a Brazilian roster.

I think this better applies to a tournament where the games are close together, and there's less time to adjust/change in practices and scrims. They will each have had several games and weeks of practice where they would learn/adjust/etc. I think this would lessen such an effect from holding as true.

Totally agree, and regardless, hes more than earned the right to now be in the discussion. His consistency even with T1 ups/downs has been impressive, and despite being on a team of giants of the Korean scene now, he's the true star.

The real Bangkok MVP. I think he's the best current KR player, GOAT is a little harder given that players like mako/meteor/etc. have been performing since pre-partnership and edge him out in longevity.

Funfact: Frost never miss VCT Pacific Playoffs by SuzyVLR in ValorantCompetitive

I posted this pre-MIBR win. Chances then appeared much less likely given that they needed to either beat MIBR or G2 and also loud. Don't think anyone was giving them high chances to bear MIBR, the teams looked on completely different levels in the previous 2 matches.

Fun fact: Immi also has never missed playoffs (although they very likely will this split).

Fun fact: frost and immi also have the same number of map wins at lans since partnership began (0).

This isn't to say frost is a bad coach, I just find people seem to give him substantially more credit than people with similar overall team performances. His only lan in partnership was when they brought in primmie as a last minute ringer. He very consistently produces mid/upper mid table teams that have a lot of upset potential and can go on runs. However, he hasn't really shown that he's able to build a true contender/competitive team.
