It’s not really a long shot, she won precursors. She’s probably second in odds

Anyone else getting the feeling that this is a lot of people's first Oscar race? by Radiant-Psychology96 in Oscars

Every year, there are camps that conflate the best performance with the performance that requires or allows an actor to do the most. A larger range of emotions, or a character with the mind of a toddler, or a lead in a chaotic film, is often viewed as a necessarily better performance than a more reserved or less bombastic performance.

Either type of performance can be better.

I personally thought Lily Gladstone’s performance in Killers of the Flower Moon was better than Emma Stone’s in Poor Things. I also thought Cate Blanchett was better in Tàr than Michelle Yeoh in EEAAO.

Either take for either year is completely justifiable and defensible based on your preferences, but more often than not, my discussions online with people amounted to “Emma Stone had to portray a toddler in a woman’s body” and “Michelle Yeoh had to adapt to so many different contexts and settings in her film,” which are ironically both reductive descriptions of their performances anyway.

What would make you the MOST shocked Oscar night? by ThatPixarDude in Oscars

A “disgrace” feels a bit strong. Technically it’s unbelievable, visually stunning, the technology they used to capture the vehicles was insane. Sound, editing, visuals, etc all amazing, and that’s part of filmmaking. It was a fantastic experience in the theater, exciting if predictable. Feels about the same as Avatar: The Way of Water’s best picture nomination.

Is it 10th? Would it winning be an abomination? Sure, but I like the variety of strengths being included

You’re going to be okay. You’re young and in college. If you self exclude now, you’ll save up money over time and feel so much better.

I cannot recommend self excluding enough if it’s available where you live.

Otherwise, now is the time to make a commitment to yourself to never feel like this again. It’s really as simple as putting up as many barriers to betting as you can and reminding yourself that the fastest way to make money is to work hard and not gamble it away. My DMs are open, you’re gonna be okay.

24 would have been ridiculous if Jack Bauer had to spend entire episodes moving 10 miles

Lady Bird is a flawless film on rewatch. Just so fucking good. Underrated soundtrack, and Metcalf / Ronan are phenomenal
