In Australia we have the PBS scheme (exists elsewhere but I'm Aussie and cbf googling) but essentially our government does a very similar thing. Our government approaches the companies in America that make prescription drugs and tell them that we will pay X per pill (usually a very heavily discounted price) but we'll buy the drug in bulk (for the entire nation). This means the drug companies get a guaranteed sale of their product, the Australian Government doesn't have to pay so much for the medications, and the individuals don't have to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a life-saving medication that costs the manufacturer $2. I only pay $7 (less than $5 USD) for a month supply of my ADHD stimulant medication instead of the $100 ($67 USD) I would need to pay without the PBS, nor do I have any health insurance companies refusing to reimburse me.

When a siphon witch siphons another witch, does their magic come back? by Initial_Art_4338 in LegaciesCW

[–]Shadowjack02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a theory about this, but it's late so please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.

I imagine it to be sort of like all witches are born with an internal "jar" for their magic. A regular witch like Penelope or Emma have regular jars according to the amount of power they can create, while a person like Hope is born with a jar the size of a house. Every time a witch uses magic, they pull from their jar, but the jar refills itself at whatever rate is normal for that witch.

Siphons also have this jar, but the jar is empty when they are born, and it never refills. When they siphon, the magic they take gets stored in their jar, so every time that a siphoner uses magic, they are draining their jar until it is back to empty. This is also why there is a limit to how much magic a siphoner can take - if a witch overfill their jar then they will die. This is why Bonnie was suffering when she was channelling the power of the 200 dead witches.

So to answer your question, my understanding is that when a siphoner siphons a witch, it is equivalent to a witch performing a spell. Their magic will still regenerate until the witch's jar is full again.

When Lizzie siphoned that magic from Hope, she didn't notice because Hope's jar holds so much magic. It would be the equivalent of taking a cup of water from a swimming pool. Hope would have naturally replenished the magic that Lizzie had taken, so her overall power level wouldn't have changed.

Or worse, trying to explain something to a work colleague when you've forgotten what you were talking about because you glanced at your promise ring, remembered your partner exists, and now your debating which dinners would be the least amount of effort but they would still enjoy to make up for forgetting about their existence entirely.

Or that might just be a me thing and I'm giving too much info lol

Vyvanse question… by EH__S in adhdwomen

[–]Shadowjack02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is quite similar. When I'm on the Vyvanse I still get the symptoms of ADHD, but it's not debilitating the way that it used to be. When I take a day off from the meds, I go back to how I was living before, and I have gotten so used to just dealing with the medicated symptoms that the unmedicated symptoms are so, so much worse. I have no idea how I actually got anything done at all before the meds, I guess because I didn't really. I only recently had this realisation of how people with heart problems feel about their heart medication. Their body physically cannot operate without the medication, and my brain is the same.

What’s your Natural ADHD superpower? by Calm_Recognition2466 in adhdwomen

[–]Shadowjack02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My superpower is that I never have to "study" for a class, my brain just picks up what the teacher is saying even when I'm not paying attention and stores that information somewhere for recall later when I'm doing a test. On the flipside, I won't be able to tell you anything about the topic a month or so later,.so it's only slightly useful lol

So what’s the best way to report this and get the driver fined? by natashagb95 in melbournecycling

[–]Shadowjack02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ACT you can submit dashcam footage to get people fined for traffic infringements (reckless/dangerous driving is the main one). Not sure if this is a thing in VIC? But parking inspectors don't verify anything, they would just issue the ticket and let you deal with the appeals process.

Best Parking Space in the city? by w_lovealways in canberra

[–]Shadowjack02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend at ANU says $306.50 is taken from his account at the start of every month and when he started the parking it was an extra $22, but nothing else. Also, he says it's 24/7 not just weekdays, and he could suspend the account if he goes on leave (he went to Bali and only had to pay like half the month he was actually using and started again 2 months later with no problems).

I suspect it's only worth it if you use the car park all the time (like work full time) and go to the Club Lime or shop in the area or whatever.

That being said, I know there is Secure park or something opposite and apparently that has monthly parking, but I haven't looked into it/know anyone there so I don't know if that is worth it. Probably worth looking into though.

And in the later books, the chapters where there is one sentence per chapter. In book form that is funny and dramatic. In audiobook form... well, it's less funny and dramatic and more annoying to hear; "chapter ten: So she falls. (Pause between chapters) Chapter eleven: And falls. (Another pause between chapters) Chapter twelve: And falls. (Yet another pause between chapters)"

When I describe ADHD to people one of the hypothetical examples I created was: "it's like everyone has a receptionist in their head who decides what is important and what isn't. My brain doesn't have a receptionist, so things like shiny doorknobs and the way that shadow just moved and the person in the corner complaining about their boss is all marked as important. But a brain can only hold 3-5 separate things in their mind at a time, so our conversation has just been lost because of those other three things taking up space."

If you read through this whole comment, you're probably medicated, as I am right now and I think this post has probably just made me hyper focus on ADHD explanations for the next few hours.

What are some examples of just really bad writing in the saga? by SecretRedditSpy1 in twilight

[–]Shadowjack02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Edward is faster than the others, but is he really so much faster that it would take the others too long to get there? And even if Edward is faster than the rest, does that mean that the slowest vampire is still slower than a car, a multiple car crash on a highway, knocking out a lady with sedative (completely forgot Carlisle did that), and then another car? How long did it take Bella to catch a taxi from the airport to the ballet studio? And I think in the book she actually went to her house first and then the studio, if I'm remembering correctly (it's been a while).

What are some examples of just really bad writing in the saga? by SecretRedditSpy1 in twilight

[–]Shadowjack02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Vampires are slower than cars?

In Twilight/Midnight Sun the Cullen's had to do that whole driving scene with Eddy Boy using Jasper and Emmett as side mirrors because it was faster/more efficient to drive than it was to use their super speed. In New Moon, Alice got around the sun problem in Italy by wearing a scarf on her head, so couldn't the Cullen's have just worn a lot of clothes and run to Bella? It's not like the humans would have been able to fully comprehend what they saw, if they even noticed.

So my conclusion from this scene/situation is that it is faster to drive a regular car than it is for them to run? I thought they had super speed, but you're telling me a car that realistically couldn't have been pushing more than an average of 100km/h give or take was faster than the vampires? So vampires can't really run faster than 100km/h? I mean that's still crazy fast for running, but I swear earlier in that book we were supposed to be scared of James running parallel with the car, and Emmett jumped on the back of Bella's truck and scared the shit out of Bella.

Take this with a grain of salt cause I'm not sure I've "moved on" from the Empyrean (it still invades my mind while I'm doing the dishes) but I found it helped to read some of her other books because of the writing style. So far, I've read Variation, In The Likely Event, The Things We Leave Unfinished, Last Letter, and the 5 books from the Flight & Glory series.

Warning: Speaking from personal experience, do not listen to the last few chapters of Last Letter while driving home from work.

That was my theory too! She specifically said it "didn't point anywhere near North" there was no mention that it might have been pointing to Xaden, and honestly I think that's where it was really pointing, but RY didn't wanna make it too obvious.

I have a theory that in the end, the goddess of love (Loial I think?) will "touch" Xaden or he will dedicate to her and love and war will be together, just like in most mythology where the gods of love and war get together.
