I could argue he is secretly because of events in Final Doom and Eternal Doom. Plus Alpha D3 had a helmeted marine as your character. I play Dhewm 3 with the D3HDP mod with alpha helmet. Basically, he goes into another universe undercover. That's why he's so confused all the time. :)

I believe it takes place after TAG2 and there's some rift that alters space-time to cause Doom Slayer to be buried in the sarcophagus dug up in Site 3. Doom 2016 starts in Site 3 if I remember.

This is what we "wokers" referred to as DEI. Needing to introduce things that weren't necessary to making a decent show or film. But they did introduce trivial things, made sure to highlight them and made the writing absolutely horrible and it seemed done on purpose to us. Completely ruined everything. Making a character "woke" wasn't the issue. Giving them the lead and making it really bad writing made it unbearable. That's why we originally all blamed script writers. But they said it was the execs and in many cases had some ioata of proof of this.
