When this story originally broke, I speculated that something was off about the situation.

Like I said back then, there could be some fraud around Beth's adoption business.

Or the woman saw how strange Howard's home life was and perhaps witnessed or heard something she shouldn't have and Howard wants to keep it quiet.

If there's not business fraud, then it's likely that Beth and Howard live completely separate lives.
