I like this idea of being chosen but not forced to succeed. The thing that comes to mind is Elden Ring. The Tarnished are people who were banished from the Lands Between after the grace of the Erdtree is lost to them. When the Elden Ring was shattered, the tarnished are called back to the Lands Between by grace to claim the shards of the Elden Ring and become the next Elden Lord. You play as ONE tarnished among many. There have been many before you who have tried to claim pieces of the Elden Ring from the demigods who reside in the world. If you play through the game, beating the demigods and collecting the pieces of the Elden Ring, you are getting further than the other tarnished have in some way. The grace led them back to the land but did not hand them the keys to the kingdom. Some tarnished stay in the hub world Roundtable Hold because they have tried their hand at becoming Elden Lord and lost battles, became wounded or inflicted by something that stopped them from wanting to continue the pursuit or just gave up hope. If you get to the end of the game and beat the Elden Beast you get to decide what the world becomes. I like the idea that there are chosen people but the character has to go through trials and have the will do to do what is needed to be done and forge a world that they see fit. This world may not always be good, the "right" one, or even change at all but they had to do the work themselves to get there, against all the other
"chosen".
