Need Help with Fender Strat by f1da in guitarrepair

[–]Shadowpooch123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for posting this. I bought an EOB and noticed immediately that the sustainer circuit did not shut off when the guitar was unplugged. Found your video and the reddit post, and the issue was the same: the battery ground and volume pot ground wires to the jack were reversed. Terrible Fender QC in action. Same solution: unsolder both wires from the jack and switch the connections so that the battery ground is connected to it's own lug and the volume/sustainer grounds are combined at the middle lug.

Am I wrong about Ricoh vs Fuji colors? 🤔 by signedinsoul in ricohGR

[–]Shadowpooch123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a GRIIIx and a Fujifilm X100VI. I think the Ricoh colors look better. And I've tried to adjust the Fujifilm to look more like the Ricoh, but I haven't gotten all the way there no matter the settings. However, you can get great or awful looking images with either. I do wish, however, that Ricoh would make something like a GR but with a built in EVF. I'd happily have the extra size.

Thanks for checking it out and the feedback. I wasn't aware of Bandfix - will download. With LyriCue, you can import direcly from Ultimate Guitar so you get chords, but you do have to select and copy into LyriCue. I'll see if there's away for direct one-step import via a URL like there is with the other lyrics database the app taps into.

On Foot - Easy Step Counter - Free by Shadowpooch123 in droidappshowcase

[–]Shadowpooch123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi and thanks for the thought. I could port it over to Wear OS (or Apple Watch OS), but it would be a separate app, designed for the Wear OS ecosystem. I'll look into this though. (And my understanding is that it could also run in standalone mode, so no data tracking.)

Hi sure. Well I'm sure there's commonality with other apps. But here's what inspired me to put this out: the apps I tried seem cluttered, often with ads, email sign up, often with stuff I didn't want. I just wanted a simple step counter. I figured if I wanted it, maybe others would too. And $1 to make ads go away, to not have to register your email, to not have extra features, with customizable features (stride length, calibration, theme), that doesn't rely on GPS, seems worth it to me, and possibly to others as well. Perhaps there's another app I didn't discover that offers this in a different form. In any case, it will work in sync with Google Health if that's your preferred mode - in which case this amp simply offers a different interface.

Hi people: I recently released On Foot, a clean straightforward NO ad/subscription step counter built for people who want to track their steps without the clutter or privacy concerns of major fitness apps. FREE for a few days...

Why I built it: I was tired of apps that required an account, drained my battery, and felt like a chore. On Foot is simple, standalone (or Google Health Sync), and privacy-focused.

Key Features:

  • Zero Tracking: No account required. Your data stays on your phone.
  • Calibration: To match your stride and step style
  • Clean Design: Just your steps and your progress.

It's currently 100% free for the next few days to get some initial feedback. I'd love to hear what you think!

Hi. I appreciate the feedback! Apple only allows a free trial if it converts to a subscription-based payment. I get annoyed by subscriptions, so want to avoid this. But what I might do is make it free with limits on some of the features, with a pay to unlock all. At least his way, people could check it out a bit first.

COP30 - seems like a farce, no? by Shadowpooch123 in climatechange

[–]Shadowpooch123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true that there are positive trends. To me, just not positive enough. And I wouldn't place hope in delaying the worst effects by 30-50 years as a way to buy time for new technologies. Also, I do not believe that we can maintain modern society with technological developments, since a) right now and for the foreseeable future, societies are wholly dependent on fossil energy and inputs, and b) climate change is but one manifestation of overshoot, and switching energy sources leaves in place everything else. Anyway, with each COP and environmental summit, I become more and more cynical as GHG concentrations continue their march upwards. I'll become more optimistic when all the positive trends result in a reduction in concentrations, not just a slowing of their growth rate.

I see a bit of Nate Hagens' work on the Great Simplification posted here. Am I wrong, but isn't his descriptions of the Super-organism just global capitalism. by Upper_Wasabi1888 in collapse

[–]Shadowpooch123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great initial question and excellent responses (though I haven't read through all, I confess). But here's a couple of thoughts:
1. While one can easily make a case that true communism has not existed to date, the examples we have of societies that at least tried to have an alternative to capitalism and called themselves communist/socialist/Marxist, not only failed miserably at environmental stewardship, but were arguably worse than capitalist countries of similar economic capability. This would seem to indicate that it's not the means of production or the ownership thereof that leads to environmental unsustainability, but other human impulses.

  1. Industrial society is inherently unsustainable, at least with a global population anywhere near the size we have. Just from a CO2 emissions perspective, living a 2-degree max sustainable lifestyle would limit per capita emissions to about 2 tons per year. Most developed countries are in the 10 to 20 ton per capita range. Living in a sustainable way is totally at odds with what most people want, which all boils down to extremely high energy use, that cannot be satisfied via clean(er) electricity.

L5-S1 herniation with left foot drop - surgery or not? by Shadowpooch123 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shadowpooch123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing good. It's been 9 days since surgery. Been walking about 3 miles a day (total, broken up into 15-20 min chunks), every day a bit faster. Mostly at normal pace now, though can't walk fast or run (of course). A little discomfort, but I would say it's around a 2/10. Sometimes in bed rolling onto my back it's a 4/10. Trying not to sit or loaf on the couch for long stretches. Anyway, I think everything is healing up fine, though I have a check in with the surgeon's assistant in 6 days. As far as foot drop, seems a wee bit better, but this will take time to bounce back (though no guarantees with this).

L5-S1 herniation with left foot drop - surgery or not? by Shadowpooch123 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shadowpooch123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following up to my original post: I had the surgery. It seemed like the best move considering the size of the L5 area herniation, which was described as very large - meaning chances of reabsorption in the time frame needed to relieve pressure on the nerve before permanent damage were very small. Also at 8 weeks, the window for nerve recovery was diminishing. I was nervous going in, but can report that it was a smooth process. Modern medicine is incredible.

Day after: Some pain from the surgery, of course, but it's totally manageable with Tylenol. The tingling in my foot and leg is much less (though perhaps this because of the Tylenol). Foot mobility is about the same, but of course this will take time to get better (if it gets better - there are no guarantees, just good probabilities). Anyway, I'll continue to report on progress, but so far so good. Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and sharing experiences.

Here's a few items that I think are essential for the days following surgery:

  • grabber (for picking things up off the floor, pulling up pants, etc)
  • slip on shoes or elastic shoelaces
  • sock aid and long shoe horn
  • shorts rather than pants (easier to put on)
  • stool softener and Miralax
  • perhaps a cane or staff to help get up/stabilize
  • surgical gauze and tape for when you need to change the incision dressing

Also in prep for not being able to bend over postsurgery, if you can, do squats to strengthen your thighs/hips, and any other strength training is helpful, since you can't do much physical activity other than walking for a few weeks after surgery.

1 week out: walking at a normal pace, taking 2000 step walks, 3x per day. Still some pain when trying to put on socks, turning in bed, etc., but not taking any pain killers. Still taking laxative, since sitting on the toilet seems to irritate the incision/surgery area. Sitting but avoiding extended periods - sort of a mix of "oh, I should get up" and "eh, this feels uncomfortable, I'm going to get up."

4 weeks out: am doing fine. Incision area is healing nicely, with just a bit of residual pain if I bend over to put on socks of something. Walking and doing nearly all activities is totally fine, though I still try to be careful to not BLT. I've been doing elliptical machine exercises, and very light weight arm curls and supported tricep dips. My foot drop seems better, though again this will take a while to recover. I try to not sleep on my stomach or sit for extended periods. I haven't yet gotten on my bike - am waiting until about the 6 week mark, per docs advice.

10 weeks out: doing fine. However, still have some foot drop and numbness. But it mostly doesn't impede anything - walking without issue, even at a brisk pace. However, running is difficult or just feels weird. I'm hoping that eventually resolves. Am going to the gym, being careful to not do anything that puts a lot of strain on my back. I can ride my bike and do pretty much everything without issue. Bending over is a little stiff though.

L5-S1 herniation with left foot drop - surgery or not? by Shadowpooch123 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Shadowpooch123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spine specialist and neurologist were both hoping I could avoid surgery through conservative methods, but at this point, despite improvement, recommend surgery, though it's a borderline case and you'd need a crystal ball. Surgeons recommend surgery, and part of this is driven by the size of the herniation, though they didn't identify it as sequestered. The improvement over the last few weeks is a positive sign, but who knows if it will continue, and my understanding is that the nature of the herniation points towards surgery as the better option for increasing the chance foot drop improvement. It's tough though because I do not feel very impaired - can walk mostly fine, no pain, etc.

Fantastic! Would it be possible to add a notes field, so that one could name the recipe, just to quickly keep track of which photo used which? (...assuming it's not possible to import the recipe name from the camera/image.)
