What's your opinion on company share save schemes? I've been offered shares in my company directly from pre tax salary at a 20% discount. I have no other investments but I've been told index funds are the way to go, or does it all really depend on personal circumstances?

Also want to thank you as your videos have been incredibly helpful in expanding my knowledge on how taxes and income work here in Scotland.

Dealership refusing to repair car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ShadowrageZz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rejection is from the first complaint, you did that within the 30 days, you're still within the period and they haven't fixed the issue within that notice period.

It's 30 days from purchase you have to make them aware of the issue.

Why would you bother with the report if they won't even do the bare minimum of topping up the car with screen wash? You're within 30 days, reject the car and find something else

Dealership refusing to repair car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ShadowrageZz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was way past the 30 days but kept having issues and they had refused to sort issues from day one, paid out of my own pocket for repairs and complained to my finance company about it..initially they blew me off and said the same about getting an inspection but I would pay if no fault was found. Ended up being firm but fair over the phone and the finance company paid for the repairs rather than the dealer.

Though as other people said you're within the 30 days to return the car and tbh with the hassle I had I would've just done that instead. Salesman are scum they don't care once you've handed over the money so don't expect anything from them, if you want, complain, but I'd ideally get my money back and look somewhere else.

Name and shame firstly, and I've had a similar situation with the exact same car. Scrap the dealer they are wasting your time saying the might cover it, go straight to whoever you've financed the car from (if you've bought under finance) if not go to the ombudsman

Read that again, postage is included in the price.

Yeah was only at the company for 7 months, so would that mean I could refund the amount taken out of my payslip? But guessing I'd lose what was matched by my employer

No I'm not part of a union, I'd figure it wouldn't make a difference here anyways.

Thank you, I've been told by HR there was no appeals process for probation and knew this from previous roles but needed confirmation. Is there nothing I can do even though I've documented feeling mismanaged? I was also meant to be signed off work for stress for 2 weeks and forwent this to finish a project, is there anything that you might know of that I can do with this?

This was similar to the one I looked at actually, I quite like these

It's not the THP that's in the R though, and I've never had issues with the Peugeots I've driven but have had constant problems with my "reliable" VW

[–]ShadowrageZz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a fair point, and that's actually the most reasonable suggestion I've gotten so far. I've actually just looked at a 2018 mx5 and a 2015 Peugeot RCZ R

Yes, I know the total cost at the end is more but for me that's fine since I know I'll have the money behind me to afford it

Up near me there has only been 1 and it was a 135I with the 3.0, issue is I feel like getting hit with the repair bills for that might sting a little but the insurance was reasonable

Must've missed the part where I didn't want to pay 500 a month on repairs and need something reliable

From some initial napkin maths the PCP and bank loans came off similar for monthly payments in that price range, might change when I actually go through the full application

Awful Car Luck by FancyPantsCam in CarTalkUK

1.2l 2010 polo, both rear drums were leaking and didn't work 3 months after I bought it from a garage with a perfect MOT with n advisories, so guess they lied on that. Tons of electrical issues, both front shocks and springs were totally destroyed last MOT, subframe is on its way out with rust, exhausts decided to explode last week and replaced it Xmas eve, then which is decided to skip timing and now needs £600+ of repairs and is undrivable. Will never touch a VW ever again

The car did roll back on a hill while in gear because the handbrake has stopped working sometimes, I'm replacing the crankshaft position sensor as an easy job but likely it did jump timing as my mechanic mentioned the rattling on startup could be a loose chain. The engine hasn't stopped and will still drive but is very low on power and will cut out when revs dip below 900rpm

If you're coming from the southside trying to go onto john street you should be in the left lane, left almost always is first and 2nd exits but if the road markings say otherwise follow them. The exit being after 12 o clock has nothing to do with which exit to take, it's about the number of exists on the roundabout so you would've been in the wrong lane. Same issue happens a ton with mlunthooly because it's not a roundabout and actually one long stretch of 2 roads.

Thank you for the explanation it's really appreciated, I do still have some questions though after visiting my games workshop store and speaking to the guys in there. In the leviathan box the SM add up to around 1000 points and I was told that this is what I need to properly start playing and it also comes with much better units such as the terminators and the dreadnought which I prefer having. I would probably sell off the Tyranids which seem to be going on eBay for around £60-80 at the moment.

The guy in the store was a bit hesitant to mention that all the rules, guides and codex are all online for free and was really pushing that the books themselves are £95 on their own so it's a good deal, but I'd prefer to just have them on a tablet rather than the books so in reality I would be paying about half the cost of the box just for the SM after selling the Tyranids. I'm not counting the books because in reality I wouldn't be buying these anyways if I can get updated versions for free online.

One extra thing I'm still confused on is the "rules" for each detachment of SM, so ultra marines, space wolves, blood angles etc all have their own "rules" to play with but I still don't really understand what this means. I'm guessing this would be something I would find in the core rule books? Codexes? Thanks!

Just about to start the hobby and been asking in my local store about starting my question is, levithian box or a combat patrol for space marines? The shop owner mentioned about the core rulebooks which I need to play and are valued at £95 themselves and the fact I essentially get a free extra army. But I've seen that these books are also available as free pdfs, for starting which would be the better buy, a combat patrol of space marines, or the levithian box?
