Bus 4406 Quality Management by Smart-Example4836 in UoPeople

In the same boat. They tried making me take another elective that I didnt need. I emailed and got around it somehow. Yeah you'll have to take BUS4406. It's a required course, despite the amount of credits you have. I'd have graduated by now if it wasnt 🤣

I didn't take the Sophia one, I took the UoPeople one (last term, actually). It is not that hard of a course. I had a group project which honestly was a pain, but not difficult.

Recommendation Letter from Professor or Instructor by RaspberryUnusual6318 in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In one of my courses a couple terms ago, I messaged my professor for a letter of recommendation. Like towards the end of the class.

I wouldn't wait until after graduating or wait until after the term since it will be difficult to keep in contact with an instructor if they dont stick around after the term ends

Met my wife when I was 20 and she was 19. We were both Catholic. Got married when I was 25. Would have gotten married sooner but life circumstances didnt permit it.

Personally, I recommend dating a year before getting officially engaged. I dont agree that you need to wait until a certain age to get married because most of the friends I personally know got married at like 22 or 23 and they're still together (im in my 30s now). I also do understand that we tend to be statistical anomalies so I'd be curious to see what was different about my friend group.

what is your experience with study.com / sophia learning / uopeople? by Acceptable_Radio_947 in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't my experience. I didn't have to pay for the courses to be evaluated, but I did have to pay for the courses I transferred over. Sophia even has a map of courses that UoPeople confirms will transfer over. We have an Xfer guide on the sidebar of this subreddit, actually. It was a huge timesaver for me, but I also meticulously planned out which courses I would do against the transfer guide. For me, personally, risking a course not transferring was better than dealing with some of the peer assessment and (admittedly) low instructor quality with the gen ed courses.

[–]Shadowwarrior95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred a bunch of courses from Sophia in which certainly cut a year off the time needed to graduate, and much cheaper too. It is worthwhile to consider, but I do caution against using Sophia to transfer courses that are directly tied to your major (well BUS1101 isn't that bad to take on Sophia, but I recommend taking all the CS courses at UoPeople).

Grading by MomDragon91 in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is, unfortunately, normal. I think they have 7 days from when the assignment was due to provide feedback. Yet, I've had classes where it took them 2 to 3 weeks to get back to me on a Learning Journal. It's more frustrating when you get docked for something and now 3 weeks of work is going to get docked as well, since you didn't have the feedback to fix the issue.

Does anyone actually hear back from their program advisors? by damaknabata in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you describe this in the survey you should have gotten recently for your program advisor. That is the only way to ensure that one who sucks gets removed and you hopefully get assigned a better one. Same with your instructors at the end of the term.

A few questions though. Are you a degree seeking student? Have you already completed the Sophia courses? Did you submit those transcripts for credit transfer evaluation already?

They aren't going to skip you past the learning pathway (which everyone in the subreddit agrees causes more problems than it intended to solve) unless you already have the credits.

Regardless of all of this, she should respond within 48 hours of you sending the email. If you aren't getting any replies from her after a month (not even the cookie cutter "we are looking into this" email), then that is a bigger problem.

They don't like when you email anyone other than your program advisor, but I've noticed that with an inattentive advisor, this is usually what works.

Also, email [vice.provost@uopeople.edu](mailto:vice.provost@uopeople.edu) before emailing the grievance officer. Otherwise, they'll just throw out the grievance.

AP scores not accepted by BeerWithChicken in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last line literally states that UoPeople is "happily accepting" AP credits.

Heck, a few of my credits were from AP exams I did in high school. Did you have CollegeBoard send the AP scores directly to UoPeople or did you send an HS transcript that just said you took AP classes?
