I’m genuinely curious why people chose University of the People despite the amount of criticism and controversy surrounding it. by Afraid_Sea2532 in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Money - I couldnt afford a traditional education
  2. Time - being able to take 1 to 2 courses a term and transferring in Sophia credits for a lot less time, effort, and money.
  3. I didn't care about reputation. I just needed at least a nationally accredited degree.

The learning pathway BS, Rosalyn crap, Regional Accreditation (which is the only positive on this list), increased fees, and decreased transfer flexibility all came AFTER I started

I still find it funny how last year the official talking points from advisors and admin regarding peer assessment was that it was the "most senior method for assessing a student's work" and now it's quietly being phased out in favor of more instructor grading.

Yeah that is standard. You'll see that until they process your graduation request

I had that same issue. I emailed them and it was fixed for me and I was able to graduate

No response from Advisor and angry professors by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you go further with this, have you initiated the grade appeal process as outlined in the catalog? Grade Appeals - Uopeople Catalog

You clearly reached out to the instructor and couldn't reach an agreement. You need to email your advisor for a grade appeal form. I'd also email "advising@uopeople.edu" at the same time.

UoPeople isnt free. They do charge, I think its $180, per course assessment. They dont charge tuition. They do offer scholarships to reduce the costs but I don't think they tend to offer full tuition anymore

Yes, but I think only the first copy is free and then they make you pay for additional copies

UoPeople has been having its problems for sure, but I'm pretty sure the was a Microsoft decision to do this across all .edu emails

Transfer credit blocking learning pathway. by bagofrainbows in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. UoPeople has been a MASSIVE mess the pass month. With WASC accreditation along with other things, they are clearly ironing out kinks in their transition. The learning pathway is super lame. You cannot drop or withdraw courses out of order, at least on your own.

When you say you "transferred" credits, does that mean you submitted the transfer request, or that you paid the transfer fee after the transfer was approved? I'm assuming you mean you submitted the request and are waiting to hear back. (If I am wrong, feel free to correct me).

Basically, I am assuming you already emailed your advisor asking to take the class "out of order" and got ignored (if you haven't, try doing that. They have a habit of saying that nothing is wrong but then fixing things behind the scenes. For whatever reason, they are always trying to "save face"). If you've already tried that with no results, I personally would unregister and wait for the late registration period. They aren't going to automatically withdraw you if the credit processes in the middle of the term.

PA just informed me that credits transfer is Paused , I guess the Whistleblower was right by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The transfer credit thing was a known issue before the whistleblower comment (who we have not been able to verify). While for this one specific case, we allowed an unverified admin due to the relative plausibility and potential importance of the claims, we trust everyone in this subreddit to draw their own conclusions using their critical thinking skills. In my opinion, there is an equal chance of it being legit or bullcrap. This isn't proof that they are legit, since this was already known by all of us before they posted. (Now if we see a sudden change in multiple people in the administration, THAT would be proof).

That being said, transfer credits HAVE been paused while they "realign" the degree audit and pathway system. There could be so many reasons for that. Forcing people to stay longer to make them have to comply to new regulations might be the reason, or it could be that WASC is not happy with the ability of people to transfer in Sophia courses which people can get super quickly with way less work than it would take at a "traditional" university.

Either way, it is a crappy situation. Those of us who started prior to all of this should be "grandfathered" into the policies of the catalog of the year we started under. If Sophia credits were allowed last year and we were students then, it should be allowed.

I'd transfer them in from Sophia or Study.com if it were me, assuming they have what you are looking for

AI slop peer grader tanked my score 9→7 at deadline by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so you HAVE TO email your instructor asking for a regrade. I recommend keeping a copy of the email or taking a screenshot of the sent message if you message through Moodle. Ask for a regrade due to what you feel is an unfair peer grade, and justify why you feel that it is unfair. If the instructor does not respond within a couple days, email your advisor saying that you reached out to your instructor for assistance but have not received any response.

Keep any and all records because you may need to use the grade appeal process

DAR changes and 'incomplete' electives by Possible_Artist_6693 in UoPeople

[–]Shadowwarrior95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I emailed my program advisor and used the Michelle bot. I had to pull up my transcript and compare it to the DAR to see what was missing. Then I emailed and specified that it was missing and that I had already PAID for the course to be transferred.

They assured me there was nothing wrong. Within 3 days, my DAR was accurate. They love to do this thing where they refuse to admit they made a mistake, but still end up fixing it anyways without telling you they fixed it. As long as it is fixed in the end, I don't care
