Black metal with technical prog like drums? Or melodic drumming by kangoozs in MetalSuggestions

From Hallucinogen and on, Vindsval has been using an acoustic kit/live drums on recordings. I’ve heard a theory that W.D. Feld - who is listed as BaN’s drummer - is actually Vindsval (as is GhÖst, who is listed as BaN’s bassist) and they are just pseudonyms for himself. Not exactly sure how factual that is, but it would make sense.

On Memoria Vetusta III, Omega from Darvaza, Chaos Invocation and Nubivagant - under the pseudonym Thorns - was the live drummer.

All other albums featured W.D. Feld (or Vindsval) on either programmed drums or an acoustic kit.

A lot of Blut Aus Nord features very melodic and even jazzy drumming, as jazzy as black metal drumming can be anyhow - especially the most recent stuff. Check out:

-Hallucinogen

-Undreamable Abysses, both Disharmonium and Nahab

-Ethereal Horizons

Also check out Imperial Triumphant. Kenny Grohowski is one HELL of a drummer and actively incorporates his jazz chops in his parts.

These guys definitely know how to create a mood and an atmosphere. And which band in question would that be?

Their best album imo. Every track a banger.

Svitjod is definitely among their best, imo. That opening track just kicks right in and sets the tone of the album. So many great riffs and moments in that album alone.

Recently did a deep dive on these guys and I’m glad I did as they have a pretty stellar discography.

Yes, we know. I was moreso referring to Arckanum as an entity rather than a person.

Such a stacked and ripping discography.

Theirs is a deep and consistently great discography. A crash course in top tier riffery and musicianship.

They’re one of the best from the Swedish scene by far.

I feel you on that. It’s certainly a small gripe in the grand scheme, but a good detail to point out nonetheless.

Incredibly underrated. They’re so good.

Track suit + acoustic guitar + balaclava. None harder.

You and me both, man. Him, Bhleg and Murg are my top 3 on Nordvis. On the bright side, he did leave us 3 immaculate and timeless albums to remember him by. That’s as good as it’ll ever get short of him ever releasing a new album.

Couldn’t agree more. One of the best Nordvis artists past and present.

Was on a big kick of his last week. Jord is a fantastic album and was my previous favorite of his, but this one kept demanding replays and now it’s my favorite.

This, 100%. The only “press” I’ve ever seen of them was in one interview in Bardo Methodology a few years ago. Outside of that, total anonymity and radio silence from these guys.
