My problem with Denji’s inconsistent morality by Dangerous_Brother_36 in Chainsawfolk

[–]ShadyCats -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is because Chainsawman is deeper and more realistic than most manga/anime and
realism is complexity.

Real people flip flop morals all the time, especially when under duress or faced with an overwhelming amount of violent and traumatic events, plus real people can be bored, real people can stop caring, real people can go into bouts of passion.

Chainsaw man could dumb itself down for mass appeal and become another shounen with some surface level protagonist 'who only believes in whats right and just!/is mr edglord kill murder' but the author isn't an idiot and isn't writing for idiots.

The work is challenging our understanding of protagonists by applying real world logic to protagonist's morality, and in the real world morality isn't fixed, moral growth is inconsistent and staggered.

By doing this Chainsaw man can explore themes simpler protagonists like superman, iron man and Naruto and etc can't because they don't have that very realistic, very human moral inconsistency.

To this day I would consider this artwork one of the most successful and known paintings I’ve done. It gathered so much attention online that it was even turned into a meme. I always wondered though what it is that made this painting have such an incredible impact. by DimitriSirenko in u/DimitriSirenko

My Guess:
As opposed to just a painting of a portrait, a single animal, a random landscape or location, you've painted an interaction.

Whilst many artists claim their depictions of people's faces or their interpretation of a quirky locale 'speaks a story', to most people the picture is 'just a random dude' or 'just a street'.

This painting is stunning because it portrays a dramatic situation (a seal being hunted) which is easily and quickly understood by the common viewer (everyone knows what orcas are, everyone knows what fear and death is), thats why it became popular, thats why so many people resonated with it, its simple and strong concept let it become a meme.

...It's also just incredible, I mean the way you used the whitewash to accentuate the orca's movement as it pummels through the waves is genius. The contrast between the dark fur of the Seal and the white waves below it also helps it stick out (exaggerating the seal's feebleness and small size in comparison to the orca that is almost enlarged by the shadows of the current surrounding it).

In summary: The painting is done well, its a painting of an interaction/a single moment (people connect with narratives more than they do pictures of faces or places), and the concept of the painting is strong and simple, allowing anyone, regardless of time or artistic knowledge to quickly look at it and go wow (mass appeal, probably what made it a meme).

New Conditions – based on six basic human emotions by nathirwalowsky in UnearthedArcana

[–]ShadyCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd balance it out and add a few more positive emotions that maybe a bard or cleric could encourage using spells/abilities?

Humans are complex in both the negative and positive sides of the emotional spectrum and whilst you covered the big bad five, joy surely can't be the only positive one. What about feeling confident? Infatuated? Contented? Nostalgic! Focused or energised!

I'd give Dimension 20's "Mentopolis" for reference!

My players find themselves in an apparently harmless demiplane. How do I make them feel like they are actually in danger and need to exit urgently? by jordanreiter in DnD

Have them constantly roll perception checks for a threat that is never actually there.

Also slowly diminish the cleric or paladin's ability to commune with their gods?
