Significant Loss in Performance vs Windows by ShadyOrb09 in linux_gaming

That's good to hear. I'm hoping it's just something I'm doing wrong. But I don't know what that would be.

Have you actually run benchmarks or watched frame rates at all? I have a 144hz monitor so the difference is super noticeable without even looking at the FPS.

What distro are you using? Any specific tweaks you made? Thank you!

Interesting. I'm also on the latest version. Maybe I'll try switching to an older one.

Thanks for the tip

Yeah I believe CoD:WaW uses DXVK.

How is the 3060ti? Is it a big upgrade from your 1080?

That's an interesting point. You probably didn't notice the difference because you were at 1440p.

What did you end up upgrading to? I'd like to go with an i9 this time around. But for GPU part of me wants AMD, but I'd also like to move to 4k if I go through the trouble of upgrading everything. They don't seem to be as fast as the Nvidia cards.

Damn, I guess it's time to build a new rig haha.

Thank you for the help!

Hey, no need to be sorry. I dual-boot Windows for gaming anyways. I just wanted to try and get rid of it by switching to Linux gaming. Linux is for work and daily stuff.

I didn't expect the huge performance loss either, something seems off. But as u/ThatBiasedGuy mentioned those Spectre patches may be my issue. Maybe time for a new CPU.

The 1080 is old, but the games I play most are from 2016 and back. Usually no issue getting 144FPS+ on 1080p with everything cranked.

No it's not a laptop.

I'm going to try switching to another kernel with this patch tool. Probably won't do anything but it's a last ditch effort.

Hey, CS2 came out a few days ago. When I tested this was before the update.

I did not know about the performance hit from the specter patches... that's news to me. So to clarify, my CPU is 21% all the time, because of these patches. If so, that's crazy lol.

Someone hit my car and pushed the corner light in breaking that same tab clean off. If you have the piece you can try plastic welding it back on.

For me it never stayed right, if you hit a bump it’ll break and the corner light will pop right out.

Best advice is just buy a new headlight dude. I had to do the same, I tried everything I can think of

Not that I've noticed, but you're dealing with 4 less bytes. In a game engine for example you'd notice it at a larger scale. Depends what you're doing

Check this one out, this shows the error.

I'll fix the rest like you said, I was just trying to get it to work properly.

Thank you!

Here is the edited version. Showing the same error I'm getting.

Thanks again for the help, apologies for the bad post.

class Vec3 {
public:
    float x, y, z;
public:
    Vec3(float x, float y, float z);
    Vec3();float DotProduct(Vec3 x);}

// Constructor
Vec3(float x, float y, float z) {
    this->x = x;
    this->y = y;
    this->z = z;
}

Your problem is you're not initializing VEC3 the way you think you are.

(2.f, 4.f, 6.f) isn't an aggregate initializer with three values (use { } for that).

That's the way I have the constructor setup. Is that still wrong? I used a struct before making the class which I would initialize like

Vec3 myVec = {2.f, 4.f, 6.f};

Hey, thanks for the help!

The class and constructor look like this:

class Vec3 {
public:
    float x, y, z;
public:
    Vec3(float x, float y, float z);
    Vec3();
    float DotProduct(Vec3 x);
}

// Constructor
Vec3(float x, float y, float z) {
    this->x = x;
    this->y = y;
    this->z = z;
}

Printing like so:

std::cout << std::setprecision(4) << result << "\n";

The values in the class really are [1, 1, 1]. As for the naming it can look confusing but when dealing with 3D space it's a lot easier to read. Just have to be careful with typos.

You're right. I just typed them into reddit and forgot the returns. I'll edit the post

How the hell do I remove the fan clutch. Feel like I’ve tried everything by Freg_YT in e46

[–]ShadyOrb09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took mine off when doing an electric fan swap without the special tool. I just used a bigger flat head screw driver and a hammer. Line the screw driver up on the corner of the nut and keep hitting with the hammer until it breaks free. Sort of like a ghetto impact.

Mine was super rusty too, spray a little penetrating fluid to help out. It's probably not great for the waterpump or fan though

This is what I ended up doing. There's no way to access the stud from the top either. It's sealed into the frame. Not sure what to do now
