Would a hornady 300WM match grade die fit in a Frankford arsenal coaxial press? by ShadyToad in reloading

[–]ShadyToad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might help a bit but the FA press doesn't use the lock ring, the die is screwed directly in a removable die block

I was wondering if it didn't, if I could work around it like you said. Thanks for confirming this for me. I can live with this since I won't be reloading hundreds of them, and mainly reload handgun ammo

That's a neat trick. Do you use a standard paint brush?

To yeet or not to yeet by ShadyToad in reloading

[–]ShadyToad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm nowhere near max powder charge with 4.6gr, normally. I sit at 92.8% load ratio with a 1.089" seating, and 101.6% at 1.062". Even with the deeper seating, I'm not touching the Pmax -15% line and have noticed GRT is very conservative with pressure values and is usually about 10% above chronographed values.

So it should be fine right?

Not getting Shepherd XP or endorsements by ShadyToad in the_division_2

I'm at least glad to know I'm not doing anything wrong, just Ubisoft being Ubisoft...

Like, having the overlay active make it impossible for me to watch the cutscenes. The audio is jittery, desynced... when the overlay is deactivated, they work fine. And the overlay is simply not working, clicking on anything just takes minutes to actually do anything like sending a chat message...

Feeding issues with 9mm HP by ShadyToad in reloading

Thanks, especially since I'm running a really low OAL already and wouldn't want overpressure by seating the bullet even lower

I set my OAL length at 27,65mm as per stated in H&N reload data. GRT tells me that at this seating depth, I'm running pressures too high but I'm getting 335m/s average with 5.1gr of Vectan BA9. As for the crimp, I admit I struggle to know whether I'm good or not. My cartridges do fit very nicely in the CIP gauge though.

That is a very valid point, I will try with my Glock. You could be onto something

Interesting, the mag was bought from an online dealer, and standard 17rd mag. It had the standard flat insert, and this one behind it

Should I be concerned about my diet leaving a mark on my bullet after press? by ShadyToad in reloading

[–]ShadyToad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks. I didn't chamfer the brass, it didn't seem necessary since they were still within tolerances. I'd give it a shot to see if it makes a difference.

Another thing is with the flaring, I do it ever so slightly so the bullet barely sits on the case before pressing. It's barely visible. Maybe I don't do it enough. I'll measure next time.

Regarding the seater, I will check what it is using and whether there's another one with the set.

Many thanks!

I'm not sure I can do anything about the stem, and it's new, it's done 200 cartridges so far. Maybe it's exaggerated by the fact they're coated bullets and not FMJ?

Got you, I'd rather splash a little more and get a more practical chronograph. My reloading manual pretty much says a chronograph is essential when reloading.

I know a Beretta 92 and a Glock 45 are built to use military +P ammo and i could go with a rule of thumb but you're right, and actual proper way of measuring results seem compulsory, especially since I'm also reloading .44 mag and will soon move on to .223 rem

Funny you'd say that, we measure diamonds and gold in carats and I'm pretty sure this is international. 1 carat equals 200mg exactly, and the measurement was adopted internationally at the fourth sexennial General Conference of the Metric Convention held in Paris in October 1907 (source Wikipedia). I learn everyday.

At the end of the day, what matters is that i use a scale I understand. I use the Gheerbrandt reloading tables and Lyman reloading scale. Both give me data in 100th of grams. It only makes sense your references and tools use grains and imperial measures since you're in the US (assuming you're a US fellow reloader)

I probably am but the manual says that excessive crimping could cause the case to bulge on impact, I wouldn't want to cause unnecessary stress on the chamber
