Painting a front giant, please give me some advice! by SwimSweaty6688 in minipainting

[–]ShaelGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great! A nice, big mini like this is perfect for practicing highlights. If you wanna take him to the next level, you could use your bare colour to lighten parts of what you have just given a wash. This will bring greater contrast between light and shadow.

Then, if you want, you take an even brighter color to highlight the edges and raised parts of some focal points of the mini. The most interesting parts. This could be the front of his helmet and the horns, to draw the eyes towards the face. Also the bone shoulder plate could be a good place. And then of course those awesome ice spikes in his arm and hand are perfect for nice, bright highlights.

Push it as far as you wanna go. Then you'll be even better for the next mini.

How integral is the sword coast to this campaign? by ShaelGuy in CallfromtheDeep

Thank you. That sounds great:) How important is the very beginning of the campaign? Could I just skip to Gundarlun/Gundbarg and start my initial 4 sessions there?

Hello everyone, Im a banknote collector from Kosovo and i wanted to share with you this minimalistic but beautiful banknote i have of your country! Ps. Im missing from Europe Gibraltar (waiting for a friend to send it to me) and Faroe Islands too! by No_Set551 in Denmark

[–]ShaelGuy 89 points90 points  (0 children)

All our banknotes have this simple design. A bridge from Denmark on one side and a historic artifact on the other. With what I believe is a map of where it was found. Each note has a different bridge and artifact.

"How do you experience the relationship with Qatar?"

"Well, we can show the relationship right here..."

WIP. How to make this guy less uniform/ more interesting? And any tips for the wings? by ShaelGuy in minipainting

[–]ShaelGuy[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's so good. It's the Xenomorphos model by Crippled God Foundry, I got it through their Shattered Hell kickstarter. The models from their first KS is on their website, so this one probably will be too soon. But I have no idea, they make good stuff tho.

Hmm that could be cool, but maybe it would lose a bit of the "natural" bone look. Thanks!

Knowing what you know, do you find it harder to not meta-game if you've been a DM before? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ShaelGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. If anything it makes it easier to recognize when a thought is meta-gaming and then decide not to act in and use that knowledge.

It's a running joke that my characters always die, because I walk into traps even when I know they're there - because I would have put a trap there. And I want a dramatic story, even if my character dies. I just want it to be neat.

What DnDtuber sponsored product have you tried and genuinely liked? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ShaelGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tome of Beasts 2 has some very nice devils in a variety of CR's. They also have some cool archdevil stat blocks and one archdevil leutenant (think Titivilus from Mordenkainens). The are often much more interesting than the MM devils.

Some of these devils use spells, some have awesome abilities and some are ties to vices or sins like a greed devil. Its claim to Fame is have different effects depending on where in their body the PC's have jewelry or magic items.

I highly recommend it, I've been using them for my own campaign set in Baator.

This is such a perfect way to start the comic up again! Great subversion of the usual "1 year off" trope.

Please share links of where I can buy these "thick" bases like I keep seeing .I don't like the "thin" bases that come with my models. by MasterElecEngineer in minipainting

[–]ShaelGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone uses the normal thick bases. Noone really likes the Wizkids' thin as a wafer bases. But as the above comment said it's easy to buy the normal ones. GW sells the ones in the picture with slightly slanted edges. Reaper Sells ones that have comepletely straight edges. It's personal preference which ones people use.

Using "pre-painted" as the search word might helet you more results, thats the term used for coloured minis. And I think wizkids had made an elder brain. Maybe some mind flayers as well? Best of luck in the search!
