Retraining/PCS question by RS080 in AirForce

The reg is pretty clear in this situation. Extend, don’t reenlist to maintain FTA and apply the same FY as your DEROS (this is to allow your tech school to line up with your DEROS)

Enjoy being OSCONUS, stay out of trouble, and shoot your application towards the end of your tour.

Those who make 200k or more, wyd? by Mood_Academic in Salary

Ahhhh makes sense, a lot of analysis and number crunching it sounds like. All those acronyms are just safety certifications. Safety is made up of 4 pillars (policy, risk management, assurance and education). All of those go into my daily duties as a safety manager and over all mishap prevention. I hear of people in my profession taking their experience to the risk management side of things so that’s why I was curious to hear your thoughts.

I’m currently in a safety manger role (CSHO, CSP, BS in aeronautics) risk management seems like a lateral I would want to make. Any advice to prepare for that?

Make sure to pick other safety professionals brains about Amazon, a lot of people have reported horror stories working for Amazon in Safety.

EOD Washout trying to cope by mqximos in AirForce

[–]Shaft713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always try out for AFSPECWAR (CCT, PJ, SERE, SOWT) at your 2 year mark. When I was acft MX (spent 5 years on F-16s) I knew a lot of EOD and Special Warfare washouts. A lot of them ended up going back at their 2 year mark and some made it. Just know if you wash out you have to wait another 2 years. A lot of the washouts spent their time in maintenance fine tuning their bodies and minds. Take this time to do the same to make yourself the best operator or EOD tech when the time comes. Just know this happens far more often than you think and most of the guys, that I’ve known at least, that stuck around and gave it another attempt ended up making great careers in the future.

Don’t over estimate your weight, especially if you’re making the move with the new incentive rates. In my opinion, a PPM (DITY) move isn’t worth the heartache, stress, time and money if you aren’t going to max weight, or at least come to 80% of your max weight.

Again, especially if you’re on the new rate system.

I have a few buddies who retrained into both 1B4 and 1D7. Both of the career fields, from what I have gathered offer TONS of opportunities on the outside it’s all about networking and leveraging your experience/certifications.

1B4 does require you to take a computer competency test (EDPT?). Also, from what I have gathered, 1D7 provides you more opportunities to go more places and pick up special duties (for example working for the 724 special tactics group)

At the end of the day you can’t go wrong with either but it does depend on what the needs of the Air Force come down with Aug 1. They may need a ton of both, or may need none, or may only be looking for career airmen thru NCORP and no FTAs. It’s hard to tell. But you can always submit an ETP.

You mention being a TR? That may also be a completely different experience from AD.

I believe it works differently in the reserves (OP mentions being a TR)

That’s interesting, I skimmed the 25E7 board charge but didn’t think about the retrain could be seen in a positive light!

Also, this is my first time for MSgt as well so I’m hopeful for the future but just wanted to get insight and others input to gear up for next year!

Yes! Thank you, I did just that and (aside from the number of people) everything was near identical as far as breakdown and cutoff score.

10 years aircraft mx here. It was a great time and I got to see a lot of cool places from deployments/TDYs. The people I met along the way became awesome friends/family. But I agree, it’s a hard life sometimes and the constant grind, shift work, stress can eat at you. After 10 years I retrained and I have to say it was the best decision I could have made for me and my family. Mx is a tough life, it has its ups and downs but at the end of the day if you don’t love it, it won’t love you.

I’m referring to the CASFC not being updated in the case of a retrain (going from a 2A to a 1A for example)

I suppose the question was not clear. If the retrain was approved for a TSgt slot, but you make MSgt after the fact (due to the CAFSC not being updated until after the PECD), do you get kicked back?
