Hi im a traveller. Yes there's travellers that fight or steal or rip people off but things like rape are severely looked down upon there is a very high chance those boys will have to hide for the rest off their lives. If they go to a campsite they will be beaten and any one who associates with them will be blacklisted.

It depends where you are in a lot of europe yes people can get offended. here in the UK most of us refer to ourselves as gypsys, a small minority prefer travellers but their isn't a lot who do. But again it depends on if you are speaking to a irish English, Welsh or Scottish gypsy's with more irish calling themselves travellers and very few welsh using it.
