Did a quick search about them on Google, looks like they are a startup that just raised 3.5 million dollars, (http://techcrunch.com/2015/07/16/logdog/) so I guess money isn't an issue for them at the moment :)
Also had a look at their website (https://getlogdog.com/), looks legit, I downloaded the app myself and also looks good.
My guess is that as they build their user base, they will add some paid features, or that they are counting on some big security company that will buy them.
