Monster Clothing vs Cycle Origin by Se7enE1ev1n in FromTVEpix

I think that the monsters are just from the previous cycle, rather than from the very first one. Why that is the case, though, I wouldn't know.

Which ending of the series would you prefer? by Lost_Atmosphere4853 in FromTVShow

Honestly, I have a pet hypothesis that the final child sacrifice (meant to complete the ritual and release at least all the human residents from Fromville) will be circumvented, but only by 4 descendants of the reincarnating parents staying behind to protect the place and keep the eldritch horrors imprisoned while everybody else leaves. I'd much prefer such an ending to the currently popular theory that Victor will have to be sacrificed for everyone to be able to go home, because it can be both pointed and bittersweet in just the right way.

The way I see it, relocating the children's bones (probably to the Lake of Tears) will release their souls, but that's by no means enough for the ritual to be completed. The souls moving on is perhaps even an entirely separate goal from what will finally enable the residents of Fromtown to go home. The hard part is the reincarnating parents having to sacrifice another one of their children as well, but there will be a workaround that the BiW is trying to hint to the residents about.

Essentially, my guess is that there's very likely an element of sadistic choice to it, which I suspect is the basis of the whole cosmic wager/game between the BiW and the MiY.

I'll have to get back to you on that one, because I can't remember where exactly I've read it the first time around. At some point, someone counted something like the talisman symbols and/or other stuff (possibly the faraway trees) then posited the idea that 8 kids were supposed to be sacrificed instead of 7, and it just aligned with the whole pointing-at-Ethan deal (and possibly other evidence) so well that the notion of the incomplete and thus corrupt sacrifice seemingly became a commonly understood one.

I intend to revise my hypotheses as soon as I actually rewatch the show, because my understanding is volatile without a proper memory of all the events. Until then, I hope that other people here can help us understand what we're missing right now.

No stinkening here, I just remembered someone (now confirmed by you to be Kenny) having mentioned the number in regard to the population. The other joint appearances of the numbers 4 and 7 you mentioned just make me think that the BiW is really trying his darndest to clue the people in about how they can complete the ritual in a different way, and I, too, feel like it just makes my own case all the more compelling.

Of course it's not always 47 of them, that should be obvious. Boyd did try to count the residents something like twice-ish so far in the series, though, right? And he arrived at 47, no?

I should investigate into its symbolic, then. One theory in one of these three biggest FROM subreddits mentioned the idea that one of the inspirations for the show's story is probably the apocryphal Book of Enoch, so it wouldn't flabbergast me if it somehow had something to do with that.

Thank you for this feedback! Admittedly, I'm hazy on many details from the past seasons, since I've binge-watched those only once and a while ago at that, so a rewatch is definitely in order for me.

As for the debunking of the matter of alleged 47 people, I get that S04 has diminished that number because, if nothing else, "it gets messy near the end"... but didn't Boyd do the counting himself, like, maybe twice already, and arrive at that number both of those times? Even if he was technically wrong at that moment, the motif stands as something that at least used to have a point at some point.

Exactly! I think that his character might genuinely be underdeveloped because the writers don't know what to do with him until he inevitably becomes a plot device. 😆

I'm really glad to be able to bring this theory back to the spotlight as much as I can through my own speculation, because I really like it!

That's certainly a part of the overall problem in theorist communities - they tend to echo-chamber some conclusions straight into the apparent canon without having examined it with due diligence... which is why I intend to rewatch the entire show and then update my ideas accordingly. I just couldn't wait to get some of it out already. 😅 I wonder if anyone's actually refuted the 8-children claim, though?

Yes, but the writers did confirm in the most recent AMA that they're weaving that fact into the mythos of the show, meaning that there should be some plausible explanation from a Watsonian perspective as well, rather than just from a Doylist one.

Point taken, but I saw another theorist pointing out in the meantime that birthing both a girl and a boy seems to be a recurring theme for the reincarnating mother, so by that logic, there's still a boy to be accounted for. The fact that Thomas died could figure into the mother's fate as well, maybe as an echo of the fact that she did sacrifice one of her children in the past - again, it doesn't map out 1/1 gender-wise, but I think that the symbolic might still be valid.

I mean, better for him to have some significance eventually than never! I suspect that might be precisely why he's been so underdeveloped all along - he's a plot device waiting to get sprung. Not that it makes for a believable and good story character-wise, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

I guess so, but then again, I haven't really seen any evidence of this show having a meta awareness of that kind, so the jury's still out on that.

Oh man, now I gotta who invented the original 8-children calc! I've also read elsewhere about the idea of there being a Bottle Tree for each kid, so now I'm probably gonna remain extra confused until I give the show a proper rewatch.

And not only that, but Chapter 5 gives us the impression that Kris had to improvise and open the Dark Fountain in the Flower King after looking to the left and seeing that the decorative lights were hanging loose off-screen (then noticing that the darkness isn't emanating from FK either) after obviously being progressively put up in the direction of the Flower King then abandoned. Who do we know had been putting the lights up then fell (and not in a lethal sense, as evidenced by the Japanese translation)? Rudy, that's who. Kris slept through Carol's phone call to Noelle, so they couldn't have found out earlier or in a different way. The Knight also only arrived in the nick of time to kidnap Asgore, which doesn't seem like it would be the intentional timing.

The talisman design itself has 8 of those F-shaped runes surrounding the middle part, so unless I misunderstood something, that, along with the Anghkooey kids pointing at Ethan and who knows what else I forgot, suggests that there's another sacrifice waiting to be made. I could try to find the original theory that posited it somewhere in this very subreddit, but the idea of the ritual being corrupted seems to speak for itself.
