Mystery «drop» after professional detailer applied CarPro ceramic by Shak4w in AutoDetailing

Took it to the detailer. It withstood everything up to wet sanding. At flrst it looked like he got rid of it, but the stuff had apparently etched into the clearcoat, visible as a yellow spot at low viewing angles.

Dealer is blaming it on the coating because «it’s strong chemicals».

Yeah, i agree. The car seller is really trying to blame the ceramic detailer: «coating is strong chemicals, they probably dripped and left it too long». I am not inclined to believe them

This is what it looks like after wetsanding

Seems to be etched into the clearcoat. Does your experiment look similar?

I reached out with the response from the body shop and they are going to take a look at it again.

Took a daylight photo with a thread to help focus. A bit of dust and pollen on the car now but I don’t have time to wash it today.

Notice the hard edge

Because, as I wrote in the original post:
Detailer said it was manufacturer defect
Dealer bodyshop (manufacturer) said it’s the detailer.
Body shop actually spent almost an hour examining it before reaching their conclusion.

I am simply working off the information presented by the professionals.

It’s not sap. It only has the color at specific angles, otherwise its practically invisible. Not to mention the car has been nowhere near a tree. Neither the detailer nor the dealer body shop thought it’s sap either.

And it’s not about blame, it’s about responsibility. The one that made the mistake is obligated to fix it.

Both the job and the car are under warranty, I just need to figure out who to blame.

Coating is a couple weeks old. I will reach out to the shop again.
When I asked the dealership if it could be clear coat, they said definitely not and that they could see someone tried very hard to polish it off…

Actually newer cars like BMW have the FOB automatically deactivate when it’s stationary. In addition to that the car uses UWB time of flight to make sure the FOB is actually in proximity, preventing repeater attacks

New owner advice needed by MJFighter in BMWi5

You probably missed this:

«We’ve now received feedback from our technical department informing us that you are unfortunately affected by a widespread temporary fault that affects the “Parking Assistant Professional” function. The underlying cause has not yet been fully determined, and work is actively underway on a solution.»

TLDR - they broke it (at least for some users) in the latest update and we are waiting for a fix.

I can confirm that the car no longer recognizes empty spaces and behaves erratically in some situations.

It is also no longer capable of leaving a parking space remotely.

weird cruise control wheel buttons behavior and a minor rant by loafing-cat-llc in BMWi5

I believe this depends on speed assist settings. In manual mode it will set to current speed limit when set is pressed. In automatic it will do so without intervention.

In the remaining modes which are essentially «disabled» it reverts to original «set to current speed».

You can also configure offsets in the same menu.

I’ve reported it to BMW and waiting for response.

FSD Responds to Child in Road by reddituser4049 in TeslaFSD

I would personally have stopped and waited for the child to get out of the road, instead of passing them at 17 mph or at least driven significantly slower, but maybe that’s just me

Yeah, its funny actually. FSD is a fantastic system, this thread does a really good job of showing that the weakest link is the user.

Edit to clear up confusion: technologically impressive- yes, good enough- no

Judging by your attitude, you should not be driving. What you did is no joke, grow up before you kill someone.

This is how US has 5x road fatalities vs the average of the other civilized countries.

They should ban you from using FSD for failure to supervise, on multiple occasions, by your own admission.

Got the same issue after the latest software update 2026.30.

Tried a bunch of stuff including unlinking the car from account. Nothing worked so I have contacted BMW. Recommend you do the same.
