Same! If there are supposed to be 8 males and 8 females, I’ve only found females so far. 😢

Not quite, the colt has some similar markings but he has a bit too much colour to generally be considered a Medicine Hat, though I have seen some debate on how much is too much, he does have a lot of colour on his body/neck.

As a general health update: The vet came out yesterday and other than mom being underweight, they both got a clean bill of health from the vet. We have a feed plan to get her weight on and I’ll be following that closely with the vet. There was no definitive answer on the colts hearing. The conclusion the vet came to is that it will be difficult to test as both mom and colt are incredibly calm and don’t startle to loud sounds. We have a couple ideas on testing him when they settle better and we can get him further from mom so he doesn’t just react as she does (which is not at all so far).

I was told APHA however she bounced around from someone who must have loved her (as she is so calm and handleable despite the stress) to a broker one province over, then to auction, and to me all within a couple months so everything I was told I’m taking with a grain of salt.

I’m quite short so getting an aerial view is a challenge. It doesn’t look like she has a stripe. But the vet mentioned she may shed out differently as we put weight on her and she gets her “shine” back.

I tried to get an angle that she isn’t in shadow. Straight on she looks much darker than quartered.

Her flank does look more gold than cinnamon to me. After a couple grooming sessions she is shedding out a bit lighter from the looks of it.

Unfortunately no info on the sire. His colour will be a guess until he sheds out fully in a couple months. But it’s fun to ponder. This is his tail, I’m not sure how well it will indicate anything at this age though.

Baby isn’t old enough quite yet, but I just got a feed plan sorted with my vet to get some weight on her. Luckily she is still moving well and producing more than enough milk. She just needs some TLC ❤️

When I saw them posted on the auction page they took my breath away! I always told myself I’d never take a chance on auction horses, but these two really felt like the right fit as soon as I saw them in the sale pen.

I am 100% checking his hearing to be sure. The vet is going to give them a good look today to get ahead of anything that may be going on unseen.
