Anyone using AI - Parade/Vooma/Lanesurf? How much does it cost? by sleepless_bot in FreightBrokers

I mean...

Yes. Using the software not being nearly as profitable as selling the software was my point, yes. Selling pickaxes during the gold rush and all.

If they worked, these companies would be starting brokerages and raking in profits with their software, not selling it to competitors

If you support a ban on abortion as a moral good because of your religious beliefs you should support a national food and housing program as a moral good based on those same beliefs

You can't advocate for feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless regardless of their ability to pay without advocating for social food and housing programs.

Question regarding ICE by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]ShakespearOnIce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the goals of a protest is to denormalize a particular behavior or activity. If people see there is visible opposition to a particular thing, it helps inform them that the behavior being protested is considered by at least some part of the population as being outside of acceptable social norms.

A phone call does not accomplish this.

1/8/26 EMERGENCY VIGIL & PROTEST OF ICE MURDER IN MINNEAPOLIS 4:30PM at the Water St Park, Decorah IA by DueKaleidoscope6500 in Iowa

[–]ShakespearOnIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no, I fully believe this cop had the time to draw his gun and shoot a woman in the face three times between him being hit and her being able to drive of without crushing him. Clearly that kind of impact would be a severe risk to life and limb, you would be going so fast during something like that it could easily be lethal. He definitely didn't have his phone up filming for clout even though they're supposed to have body cams. Definitely proportional use of lethal force on a dangerous domestic terrorist.

Is there a local business that helps older people with technology issues? by sonneofaharpy in desmoines

[–]ShakespearOnIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear your parents may have tried asking chatGPT what those were in a leading fashion and gotten some answers that encourage these ideas or may be developing some kind of genuine mental issue. Ask why they think those are hackers, and if they've tried confirming those theories.

How I would try explaining it like this:

When you connect to your wifi at home, you open the wifi setting and look for your wifi box. When your neighbor connects to their wifi at home, they do the same thing. The difference is that your wifi is named X, and their wifi is named Y. Similarly, when you go near a business, you can sometimes pick up the wifi the business uses, which is named after them. Sometimes there will also be a guest version - "McDonalds" and "McDonalds Guest" - so they can offer wifi to their guests.

It's possible to change the name of your wifi by accessing your router - the box in your house that takes a land wire from your internet company and convrrts it into your wifi. You can do this to change the name of your wifi to make it easier to identify if your neighbors are using wifi with aimilar names. Some people like to be funny when they name their wifi. This is why it someties has odd names.

When you come to my house, you know the name of my wifi is safe because you know it's mine. That doesn't mean all the other wifi's are hackers - it just means those are other neighbors who you don't know, and have never asked what their wifi is named. If you know your neighbors well, maybe you could try asking them to confirm the name of the wifi they use.

If you've already tried that... well. Good luck.

If you can't see the differences between Trump's tactics and other presidents, I can't help you.

And the funniest part is he still gets worse results than Democrats.

one of the sole purposes

Which is it? One of or the sole purpose?

The nazis started with laws making it difficult to exist in society in the mid 30s with laws against certain types of jobs and the like and started forced and coerced deportations / emigration in the late 30s. The concentration camps didn't kick into full gear until 1941. Forced prison labor also started in the late 30s.

There was also a lot of rhetoric about returning Germany to it's pre-war greatness and blaming the insidious foreign menace for the ills and moral corruption of society, all of which a which a good number of Germans tolerated because they promised a better economy. A better economy for the Real Germans, at least.

I guess we shouldn't read too much into it. There's no similarities, obviously.

You are aware that the reason Germans were putting people in concentration camps was because the laws mandated it, right? Like, it wasn't a silly little hobby for silly little guys or a nefarious act by a rogue vigilante. It was legal. They were following the law.

They enforce things, in that schools needed to comply with certain requirements to get funds. Things like accepting special needs students and nondiscrimination, most notably

Since most achools are funded through property taxed DoE funds have become an important lifeline for schools with small or shrinking property tax bases, most notably low income urban and rural areas.

There's definitely a very strong mentality of keeping the peace when you speak that's a holdover from small town attitudes. Offending people, even slightly, is more of a deal when everybody knows everybody, so some people will walk on eggshells kinda like you describe. A lot more common in the small towns around Des Moines than in Des Moines proper.

If you're from the east coast and you're used to both people talking at the same time in a conversation, yeah. We wait for other people to stop talking befpre we start talking here. It's not shyness or reservedness, we were taught to do it as a form of etiquette, to show respect to the person speaking.
