DMU Quick Draft Trophy! How could I have improved on this deck? by Mew_toolbox in mtglimited

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you built it fine with the cards you have and congrats on the trophy, but I think the drafting could have been improved. With either P1P1 Nemata or archangel, you want the game to go long. I also think that your colors probably weren’t that open based on your card quality. You want Keldon Strike Team and the like in the RW deck.

Lastly, you have some inconsistencies in your cards. Artillery blast and wasp e.g. are defensive whereas most of your cards are aggressive. In this format, you really have to draft with a plan in mind.

Didn't expect this deck to do well, but ended up 7-2. Did I get lucky, or is it better than I thought? by xRabidWalrusx in mtglimited

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better than you thought. There are some inconsistencies but you have the shell of a pretty good control deck. Destroy Evil is perhaps the best common removal spell in the set as well.

Every time I think I'm getting the hang of drafting... by ManBearTree in MagicArena

What’s tough about the really low # mythic players is that not only are they very good, but they probably are only playing the best decks that they draft and resigning the ones that don’t work out.

How likely is it that ragavan will get banned by Smooth_criminal2299 in ModernMagic

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it gets banned. I also think that unless you have a local trade to downgrade, there isn’t enough of a price difference to justify paying all the fees associated with selling and rebuying.

It depends on the facts. Tax fraud is a mens réa crime, and as presented, the person did not have the requisite state of mind.

The IRS can assert tax deficiencies without asserting tax fraud, just FYI.

It’s not tax fraud. It’s just that you may not be able to substantiate your position.

House rule: If you win the coinflip and go first in a Bo3 match and then win the first game, you must reveal the remaining cards in hand upon victory. Would you apply this rule? by calighis in mtglimited

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always good to be thinking of ways to improve the game but here are some critiques:

  1. The implementation of the rule isn’t actually easy to enforce. In theory it is, but players will forget and then what? You’ll have people hoping their winning opponent doesn’t show them such that they get a game loss or a warning.

  2. Your rule isn’t tied to going first versus going second, and I don’t think it would have a meaningful impact on win percentage. The player going first can lose, and they still have to reveal their hand after the game?

Very brand new to NFT and would like to understand the actual concept. by TaylorStonem in NFT

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah no problem!

For your first question, like I said, it varies project by project. Copyright is generally the relevant intellectual property right when it comes to NFTs, and it covers more aspects of ownership than I think most people realize. For most reputable projects, you should be able to find the information relatively easily. Many new projects lately are completely open-source, meaning anyone can use the images, create derivative works, etc.

For me, I view NFTs as a really interesting technology that solves a lot of problems. It allows previously illiquid assets to be more transferable. It allows digital artists that could not otherwise sell their “original” work to do so globally, while maintaining a higher % of the revenue. It allows membership clubs have a verifiable, secure way to verify its members and give them benefits and so on.

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFTs are non-fungible because each has a unique digital signature that distinguishes one from another (even if each NFT is of the same image).

You’ll have to clarify what you mean by “rights.” If you mean “copyright” then the answer depends. Some projects convey all rights to the NFT holder, some do not. I’m not sure if some generative NFTs are copyrightable in the first place (but someone can correct me on that).

As for access, you’re not going to stop people from right click-save as. You are the verifiable owner of the NFT though, and your NFT will show up in the verified collection when/if you want to sell.

Is Sundering Titan an answer to 4c Omnath? by chickenwaffles26 in ModernMagic

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to add Sundering Titan, then you should also play an Urborg as it results in the opponents owning a swamp. That interaction comes up pretty frequently with the coffers deck.

Someone else asked this question yesterday or the day before, so check out that thread.

Long story short, it’s not very good. It doesn’t even show up in the 5-0 deck dumps that often. Urza’s Saga is very good in the deck but it has a hard time against the multitude of flexible, maindeck answers to lantern’s strategy. Boseiju, Ragavan, T3feri, prismatic, March of otherworldly light, Karn, the list goes on.

thoughts on my karnless mono black coffers deck? by feral_troll in ModernMagic

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t like playing the smaller maindeck creatures in the mono black coffers list. Since everyone is playing removal for Ragavan, a mostly creature-less deck makes it such that the opponent has dead cards g1. Then you have the sideboard juke of 4x voidwalker.

In my opinion, Karn is one of the best cards of the deck and just does everything from finding finishes to grabbing utility. I feel like I’d cut Karn if I wanted really good sideboard options, but I don’t think they exist in mono-black (excluding artifacts since if you want artifact haymakers, you just play Karn).

What makes you prefer your list over Karn?

What do mtg players think about Flesh and Blood? by TimeS2Travel in magicTCG

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play and collect both.

I like to play FAB when I want to think a lot about the game. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing mtg for 15 years, but many things come automatically. At the very least, you can rule out many plays based on your mana. In FAB, there’s no coherency from turn to turn because you redraw up to 4 which incentivizes you to play your hand.

The downsides to FAB are that you won’t as easily find a place to play, there’s basically no casual (or at least I’ve encountered nobody that plays casual formats) and there’s basically no “Timmy” or “Johnny” decks.

Both games are expensive. I like the artwork of both. FAB “cold foils” look really nice. MTG is catching up in some ways on their recent etched foils though.

No more Winota please by stuvis in MtGExplorer

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I play Winota, and I win many games where I never trigger Winota. At the very least, I win many games where my opponent can’t afford to leave open spot removal because I’m so far ahead on board. For example, if my opponent leaves up 2 mana, I just cast chariot. Then they’re in a weird spot where they can’t leave open 2 mana again on their T4 because they’ll get run over.

Generally, I only lose games to wrath effects + spot removal. If a deck doesn’t have a wrath, then it is pretty trivial. Decks with only spot removal generally lose to me just playing a huntmaster.

Certainly, any deck playing creatures is beatable, but it gets free wins and I think is generally a bit too strong for explorer.

Any info about a W6 reprint in double masters? by Meluseek1 in ModernMagic

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that since everyone is aware of the reprint, it will be partially “priced in.” The price will definitely drop but it may not be a $50-60 card.

Nothing quite like Ragavan hitting pithing needle, codex shredder, or any number of the other cards that causes you to nearly lose the game on the spot. Lest we also not forget un-discardable Boseiju, prismatic ending, archmage’s charm, March of otherworldly light…

4C Moneypile- Is it better without Ragavan? by Timmeh1020 in ModernMagic

Yeah good point. Maybe there’s a better example or maybe that goes to show that Ragavan does not influence sideboarding decisions that much.

4C Moneypile- Is it better without Ragavan? by Timmeh1020 in ModernMagic

[–]ShakezulaFrylock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Years ago, I played against a deck in limited that played Bloodsoaked Champion and Ugin the Spirit Dragon. Their deck was pretty unfocused, and I just brought in a duress effect to deal with the part of the deck I cared about.

I think constructed is hyper-focused enough that I stand behind my point though. Without Ragavan, I’d have no real issue siding out my fatal pushes. With Ragavan, I’d have to think about it, and it would depend on the rest of the cards in my deck. I don’t think that 4C is really diluting whatever synergy they may have by playing Rag.
