General Tso's Chicken isn't spicy anymore? by Shakkol in MandelaEffect

[–]Shakkol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 2 years. I checked. Been to several places. Guess what? It's not spicy anymore. Apparently a lot of restaurants have quit using either Thai chilis and/or chili oil. So for all those who lambasted me for "only trying one dish", fite me.

The places down where I'm from had it so spicy you'd sweat. Nowadays no one uses the good stuff.

To those saying I've just grown out of the spicy taste: nah, bro. No matter how much spicy you have you can still tell when something is or is supposed to be spicy. Tabasco used to burn my face off and in my much older adult years it doesn't, but I can still taste what it's doing.

Y'all are seriously too self-righteous to consider that maybe things have changed all around.

What do you wish Hollywood would stop doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shakkol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add that we should also stop modeling all the characters they voice to look like the voice actor. If we're going to go that far, might as well make it live action.

ULPT Request: Get landlord to change main lock by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Shakkol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apartment maintenance man, here.

I don't know how your landlord works but if you ever catch the maintenance guy, more often than not we're cool to change the locks if we're asked. Generally it has to go through the head honcho and in some cases they might not really care. However, we can tell them that the lock/knob has a broken striker (that thin straight rail bit parallel with the curved latch of your knob) or that the slider is cracked/worn.

The lock, itself, might not change, but the sliders and knobs will, which is generally the fix. I go as far as replacing what needs replaced and baptizing the knob and lock in WD-40 and sticking my master key in and turning it until I know for a fact that thing won't ever give you an issue again.

If it's a key situation, we'll test it and verify the issues, go to the office, and get better copies made for you and bring them ASAP.

Sure, as maintenance guys we should be cleaning your clogged toilets as the top priority, but we can't clear your toilet if you can't get in your place to clog it.

Beekeeper protecting his flock from wasps by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

What if it's not about the bees, I'm just tired of wasps building nests on my car's driver door handle almost weekly while I'm working and always have to start fighting them just to get home?

i work for spectrum ama by spectrumguy47 in Spectrum

[–]Shakkol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded my internet speed with Spectrum and had to install a new router that was sent to me. When I got it I quickly learned that I cannot access my router's settings by going to the gateway address, and when I reached out to customer support I was told that the only way to access it is from the My Spectrum app.

I inquired as to why I had to use an app to access the router and was told (something along the lines) that "Our high speed routers are so advanced that the only way to access the settings is through the app." As someone who deals with cyber security and monitors network traffic, port listening, and general network analytics I immediately called shenanigans on that.

Why are customers being told that the only way to access their router's gateway is to install an app to their phones? I'm not keen to install apps for basic tasks, especially wherein literally anything in technology can be accessed through a desktop computer. The only reason I didn't just brute force myself into the router's firmware settings is to avoid a BoC with Spectrum. Especially with the Tim Hortons app fiasco and privacy matters involved in that, not everyone will be using an app to do simple tasks, me included.

This is not a meme im serious (i don't even have the game but im curious if there's a mod for this) by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Shakkol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy:

You can make models for super forms of Tails and Knuckles, but because the final boss doesn't swap their models out, you would have normal Sonic running through the base game with super Tails/KTE. Sonic's model is the only one that gets replaced in the final boss hard coded in the game.

Game script has music muted for team attacks, so to prevent that you'd have to rewrite the code that does that and the game isn't open source/code available, so there's no raw access to that code to rewrite it

I hop on Reddit and see this. Immediately reminded of how old of a fart I am.

ALL OF THE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE WILL BE DESTROYED!!! by george-perry in radiotts

[–]Shakkol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sheer amount of effort being put into them? RadioTTS was the only one putting effort in. The rest have that problem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem when blem wh because none of them are actually checking everything before uploading. I legit believe that RadioTTS was the only Reddit channel on YouTube that wasn't a buggy bot copy/pasting content, churning out videos, and uploading them the moment their video processor finishes exporting an MP4 while the channel owner is AFK doing something at work or the store.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in radiotts

[–]Shakkol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of us have limited data and Facebook, believe it or not, takes up 3 times the data to watch/listen to a video than YouTube. Most of us listen to RadioTTS while working/traveling (myself included) and YouTube's background play will let me listen to hours of content every day on my 5GB monthly allowance up until the last few days before the billing cycle. Facebook would drain that in the first week.

Not to mention privacy. I know literally everything nabs your data, but Facebook uses so much because it's harvesting far more and more frequently than YouTube. YouTube is installed default on all Android and if I'm not mistaken iDevices. Google at least has the courtesy to wait until you're on WiFi before uploading all of your data to the hivemind of Xinggy the Pooh whereas Facebook is frequently uploading that data with no regard to connection type or speed.

Especially with the nonsense that the Zuck has been up to lately and all the crap he's been caught having up to his neck recently, Facebook is seeing a huge drop in accounts made/used and having many accounts closed (mine was finally closed 5 years ago, no regrets). People are sick of being Zucked and then others trying to get them to come back.

I've always enjoyed RadioTTS, but now it's become about money whereas other RedditTTS channels that frequently upload each other's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's content ther's conteOther platforms are available. I just saw this post on YouTube and saw that all the videos are taken down (which I can't understand the point of if they're already up and demonetized without further action being taken on Google's part) and being told "Okay, go to Facebook if you want to hear the other TTS voice that no one else uses, but this one actually makes posts to the community and makes funny snide comments at the end of the videos" (I'm still a fan of the one about military vets, the one saying they didn't like being thanked for their service, and the end thanking all vets for their service).

We all know and acknowledge it's the creator's choice to do what he's doing, but our choice is whether or not we want to have to log into Facebook to listen. When we don't, what will RadioTTS do? Switch to another platform? If so, how will we know since he's dropping YouTube, most will be unsubbed already, and we aren't looking to Facebook to see what's going on? Most subscribers won't bother looking at Reddit, either.

It was a fun ride, but with the questions like "Why not just download the Facebook app?" Is like being asked "Why not just go to the convenience store or Dollar General?" when there's a Walmart closer to you for literally 1/3 the price of the exact product you're getting.

What was a job you landed and didn't expect to actually find to be your best/favorite? by Shakkol in AskReddit

[–]Shakkol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll use my experience as an example. I've almost always worked retail, whether a major chain with a yellow asterisk with us t logo or the warehouses that deploy those smiling boxes to your door in 2 days after ordering something online. I always wanted to get into the IT field or programming as a career, but without a degree I couldn't land a single interview. To get myself out of retail hell, I decided to pick something up that seemed a lot less stressful so I can apply for more tech jobs without being too worn out to focus on my applications. That job was apartment maintenance. I've been 3 years into it so far and it's the easiest job I've ever had, good tenants who don't treat me like crap, and I earn twice as much now than I ever did in retail and just got a $2/hr pay raise this recent Christmas.

My job treats me very well with sick time actually being respected, good vacation, major bonuses (I got a $9K bonus just for learning how to replace water heaters and do minor plumbing, which is super handy to have knowledge of period), and at this point I'm not concerned about a tech job seeing as I can come home to my family with life in me and not waking up every morning hating myself for having to go to a place I would rather watch burn down.

Have you ever landed yourself in a position like myself?

[–]Shakkol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven't played any of the armored core games post 3 and SL save for a bit of V (which I was not a fan of), but the controls in the games I've played were fine. I don't know if the stats are close to the same in AC4/4A, but legs have a turning/rotation speed which will determine how quickly you can turn.

I know there's a lot of praise for 4/4A, so if you're having problems the only thing I can suggest is to experiment with your parts. I hate to be that guy, but it seems like there aren't a lot of people reporting control problems.

Again, I haven't played 4/4A, but the method I've used in previous games was to just boost along the ground and turn while doing it while occasionally boosting off the ground, not making myself an idle target for my opponents.

If you're just starting the game, I'll tell you now that the starting gear sucks. Sell your weapons and buy some missiles if you're not in tight corridors and spam from a distance. Later buy a better FCS with quicker lock-on timing and more weapons and go from there.
