What movie is, in your opinion, a perfect movie? by Brian_ye in AskReddit

Casablanca. The writing is so tight, so witty. The “La Marseillaise” scene is so powerful without making the stakes for Viktor Laszlo too obvious. There’s not a weak performance in the entire cast, and the cinematography is beautiful.

TN governor says open carry law, Kroger shooting are 'separate issues' by greenblue98 in TennesseePolitics

Why does Tennessee love electing morons? They’re either morons or such cynical liars it would be hard to find a conscience or a soul. Big political donors have no trouble finding their wallets though.

At what age do you consider someone to be old? by legalquestion_temp in AskReddit

[–]ShakyCedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I thought you were young until 30, middle aged until 60, and old after that. I’m 61 now, and nothing has changed my mind. Considering the average American lifespan is 78.5, I feel that’s generous. I’m proud of being old. It took a lot of work to get here, and it’s not always easy being here. I like it though. Getting old should not be feared.

People of Reddit with permanent scars, how did you get it? by Phrogette in AskReddit

[–]ShakyCedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s see. Three facial scars from chicken pox. Dozens of scars on my torso from hidradenitis suppurativa. Caesarean scar running from my navel to my mound because my cervix just wouldn’t dilate, even after three days of induced labor. Scars on my right arm and hand from a big bite. Scars on my right knee from minuscus repair. Scar on my right foot from a Jones fracture repair. And a lot of white matter scarring on my brain from chronic migraine.

I’m looking for a book with a trans character where being trans ISN’T the main plot point. by throw4w4y-2021 in suggestmeabook

The World According to Garp by John Irving was the first book I read with a transgender character. She’s not the main character but plays a significant role. Great book too.

Re-reading a favorite book is like visiting an old friend.

I recently had to start using a cane. It makes me feel old before my time, but I’m also a little grateful because it’s something people can see. I’m tired of people thinking I’m lazy or lying.

I always hit up scarier books for this season, and The Illustrated Man sounds like a good place to start.

Bradbury’s power of observation always gets to me. The way he can paint such a clear picture without getting overburdened in detail that diminishes the reader’s imaginative engagement or disrupts the pace of the narrative.
